The World’s Most Eccentric Museums Through the Eyes of Stanislav Kondrashov

In a freshly released publication titled “The most unusual museums in the world of Stanislav Kondrashov,” the author takes readers on a captivating journey through some of the most peculiar museum spaces globally. These are places that defy conventionality and have the power to astonish the collective imagination of individuals who, in some instances, remain strongly influenced by the traditional museum experience, encompassing works of art, ancient relics, remnants of bygone eras, and the like.

The first museum showcased in this intriguing exploration is the “Burnt Food Museum,” situated in the American state of Massachusetts. According to the author, this museum offers its visitors a chance to witness charred culinary creations, some of which are the unintended outcome of a momentary lapse by the chef.

Kondrashov also shines a spotlight on an exceptional museum located in Osaka, Japan: within this exhibition space, every visitor can delve into the history of noodles, a beloved dish across various Eastern regions. It invites people to immerse themselves in the origins of this culinary delight and even design their personalised cup of noodles.

In the text, there is mention of one of Turkey’s most peculiar museums—the “Hair Museum.” According to Kondrashov, this museum houses the hair strands of 16,000 women, each with its unique length and color. The concept for this museum, as the author explains, originated from a love story and has since evolved into a poignant testament to the significance of human connections and the inexorable passage of time.

Another noteworthy museum highlighted by the author is the one dedicated to “Finito Amore”—finite love stories, located in Zagreb, Croatia. According to Stanislav Kondrashov, it serves as a heartfelt homage to heartbreak, one of the most profound and painful emotions one can experience. Every exhibit in the museum narrates a love story that ultimately culminated in separation, leading each visitor on a poignant journey through the realm of human emotions.

Delving into the obscure, there is a museum in Delhi, India, that few have heard of, entirely dedicated to the evolution of toilets over the centuries. It’s aptly named the “Toilet Museum,” where visitors can marvel at golden toilets and ancient solutions for personal hygiene reminiscent of genuine thrones.

A backpackers’ guide – Manchester Airport’s tips for travelling light

0

Taking a gap year or a career break to travel has become a rite of passage for many people. Autumn is a popular time to set off on a backpacking trip. In fact, more than 1.2 million people will fly from Manchester this month and many of them will be embarking on the adventure of a lifetime.

Manchester Airport’s route network is unrivalled outside London – so the chances are that whether you’re looking to travel Europe or head further afield to Asia, Africa or the Americas, you’ll be able to get there from the UK’s global gateway in the North.

Here we reveal our top tips for getting the most out of your backpacking experience – including what to pack, how to maximise space, and some steps you can take to avoid any mishaps along the way.

Picking a bag

Choosing the right bag to meet your needs is perhaps even more vital than what goes into it. If you’re planning to travel with hand luggage only, a number of backpacks have been specifically designed to meet the dimensions stipulated by most airlines – but designs still vary greatly so make sure you find one that suits your preferences.

Some backpacks have mesh spacers that sit between the bag and your back to prevent you getting too sweaty, ideal for tropical climates, whereas others have inbuilt rain covers, or come with small detachable ‘day bags’ that will allow you to leave your bulky backpack in the hostel lockers when you go out.

Your travel wardrobe

How many clothes do you really need for your trip? If you’re going away for several months, you’re going to need to wash your clothes at some point. Many hostels have washing machines, if not there will be a launderette nearby, and you may find you can get away with just a few changes of clothes – particularly if you pack versatile items that you can combine to create several different outfits.

If you’re heading to the tropics, packing thin clothing will help you keep cool and will free up all-important space. Don’t pack items you’re unwilling to part with, as you’ll probably be wearing them and washing them more frequently, which will speed up wear and tear – so you may be coming home with a different set of clothes to the ones you left with!

Rolling up your clothes, rather than folding them, will save space and will prevent them from becoming creased. A separate foldaway laundry bag – or a compartment for dirty laundry within your backpack – will help you avoid contaminating your clean clothes when you pack everything up to move from place to place.

Saving space

You’ll almost certainly want to pick up mementos of your trip as you go, or gifts to take home for friends and family – so make sure you don’t fill your bag up entirely, or you’ll force yourself into some difficult decisions on what to part with ahead of your homebound trip.

Space-saving items, like all-in-one travel adaptors, quick-dry, compact travel towels and blow-up travel pillows, will help you get the most out of your backpack. Vacuum-packing items that you won’t need regular access to is another great way to ensure you’re maximising the space available. If you’re staying in hostels, you won’t need a sleeping bag, as the vast majority will provide linen – and even if they don’t, a sleeping bag liner will likely suffice.

You should also consider what you can pick up as you go – if you’re travelling for any length of time then you’ll need to buy consumable items, like toiletries, so whilst it might make sense to pack travel miniatures for a two-week holiday, it’s less essential if you’re on a backpacking trip.

If you do bring liquids or large electricals, pack them somewhere that’s easily accessible, so you don’t have to rummage through your bag at airport security.

Being prepared

Pack an organiser for any paperwork you’ll need, such as proof of vaccinations, visas, or tickets and travel itineraries. Although it’s possible to do a lot online, it’s well worth taking paper back-ups of key documents in case of any tech issues.

Other backpacker essentials include a padlock for hostel lockers, earplugs if you’ll be staying in shared dorm rooms, plastic bags (for anything that gets wet) and first aid kit / medications.

Down time

You’ll inevitably have time to burn whilst you’re in transit, so bring something to keep you entertained, whether that’s downloading your favourite music, tv shows or podcasts, or bringing a puzzle book or pack of cards.

Downloading offline maps for the places you’re visiting whilst at the airport will mean that you can use transit time productively, planning where you might want to go, places you might want to eat, or just knowing where the nearest convenience stores and launderettes to your hostel are.

Altrincham BID Welcomes Lund Bennett Family Law to Its Board

0

The esteemed founder of Lund Bennett, Solicitor Kirsten Bennett, has been extended an invitation to join the board of Altrincham Business District, a testament to her unwavering dedication to the Altrincham community.

Altrincham, hailed twice as the Best Place to live in the Northwest by the Sunday Times, owes much of its prosperity to the concerted efforts of Altrincham Business District (BID).

Operated and funded by local businesses, Altrincham BID is the driving force behind a series of footfall-boosting events and seasonal campaigns aimed at enhancing the town centre’s commercial landscape. Since its inception, Altrincham BID has infused approximately £2.34 million into the heart of Altrincham, elevating the offerings available to both businesses and customers.

Kirsten Bennett, the Managing Partner of Lund Bennett, a family law practice with roots in Altrincham and Manchester, initiated her business in the town centre in 2012. Over the past decade, she has witnessed a remarkable transformation in Altrincham, partly due to the commendable work undertaken by the BID in fortifying services and community support.

Recognised as a coronation champion for Altrincham, acknowledging her charitable contributions, Kirsten was approached by Altrincham BID earlier this year to join their board, contributing to the organisation’s future direction.

In her own words, Kirsten states, “Lund Bennett are proud to serve on the board for Altrincham BID and work with our local community. It is a vibrant and attractive place to visit, work and live in and we are vested in in the long term economic and cultural development in Altrincham.”

The Altrincham BID Board consists of individuals from the town centre who bring specialised knowledge and expertise from the business community. Additionally, representatives from Trafford Council and Transport for Greater Manchester serve as board members.

Mandy White, BID Manager, expresses, “The board members we work with are specially chosen because they value the town and the community here in Altrincham. We are so pleased to have Kirsten of Lund Bennett join us on the BID board and look forward to a bright future ahead.”

Kirsten and her proficient team of family lawyers at Lund Bennett offer expert guidance on a broad spectrum of family law matters, including divorce, childcare, pensions in divorce, and cohabitation. Lund Bennett boasts a remarkable 100% client satisfaction rating on Review Solicitors.

Mr and Miss Olympia Finals 2023 Preview

All eyes will be squarely fixed on the reigning champion, Hadi Choopan, who made history in 2022 as the competition’s first-ever Iranian champion. Choopan dominated the competition last year, setting a high standard for this year’s title defense.

Nonetheless, Choopan faces a formidable challenge as he strives to retain his title. He must once again outshine a highly competitive field. Among his challengers, Dereck Lunsford and Nick Walker, who finished second and third in 2022, are determined to seize their first Mr. Olympia title. The former champion, Brandon Curry, is also back in the mix after finishing fourth in the previous year.

Lunsford appears to be the frontrunner to achieve bodybuilding greatness and claim the coveted $400,000 grand prize.

Eight-time champion Ronnie Coleman believes Choopan will have a tough time defending his title and foresees Lunsford pulling off an upset victory in Orlando. According to Coleman, “It’s going to be one of the biggest upsets in the sport of bodybuilding ever.”

Mr. Olympia’s pre-judging took place on Friday night, setting the stage for the most significant night in bodybuilding.

Where to Watch Bikini Olympia 2023?

For watching the event on television, fans can choose from multiple options: Apple TV, Roku, Android TV, Fire TV, and Chromecast.

On a mobile phone, one can download the mobile app on iPhone, iPad, and Android from the app store or Google Play store.

While this year’s field remains exceptionally talented, one prominent name won’t be competing. Two-time champion Ramy “Big Ramy” Elssbiay, considered one of the greats of his generation, announced in September that he couldn’t attend Mr. Olympia due to ongoing elbow issues. Although he was a favorite to win in 2022 before Choopan’s victory, Elssbiay will need to wait a bit longer to join the elite group of three-time champions.

“We are working towards improving ourselves for future shows, so I believe it is the best choice for me right now,” Elssbiay explained.

With two titles, Elssbiay is tied with Franco Columbu and Larry Scott for the ninth-most championships in history. Ronnie Coleman and Lee Haney share the record with eight championships each.

Here is a table for the participants in the 2023 Mr. Olympia competition:

How Qualified 2023 Mr. Olympia?

To qualify for Mr. Olympia is a significant achievement and requires specific criteria.
Past champions are qualified for the same division for life. Also, the top five finishers of the Men’s open from the previous year are automatically eligible to compete in the next year.

The line-up for Mr. Olympia 2023 includes some of the well-known and respectable names in the bodybuilding world. Twenty-four bodybuilders qualified for the 2023 Mr. Olympia, but only 21 bodybuilders will step on the stage of the 2023 Mr. Olympia after three of those withdrew due to retirement and other reasons.

Athletes not competing

Three athletes who qualified for the 2023 Mr. Olympia have since withdrawn. Ian Valliere announced his retirement last month; two-time Mr. Olympia Mamdouh Elssbiay bowed out last month to focus on his physique and recovery. Brett Wilkin withdrew from the event due to health issues earlier this month, leaving 21 athletes to take the stage in Orlando.

Top contenders

If Choopan or Curry don’t win the title, we’ll see the 18th Mr. Olympia this time. 212 Olympia Champion in 2021, Derek Lunsford was the runner-up to Choopan in 2022 and is looking to become the first athlete ever to win the competition in two different divisions.

2021 Arnold Class champion and 2022 Mr. Olympia bronze medalist Nick Walker hasn’t been shy about proclaiming himself the next champion. He consistently shares his progress throughout his preparation on YouTube and other social media platforms.

Walker recently participated at the 2023 Arnold Classic, finishing second to Samson Dauda. Traditionally, the Arnold Classic champions are considered a favorite for the Olympia. Dauda ranked sixth at the 2022 Olympia but has improved significantly since then.

Dark horses

Other than the favorites, some have outside shots of winning the prestigious title but more likely have the potential to finish in the top 10, which is also a significant career stride.

Talking about such athletes, former Classic Physique competitor Regan Grimes is one of those. He is one of the smallest men in the lineup despite being huge in other metrics, but has an exceptionally great shape.

Another such athlete, Hassan Mostafa, ranked 13th in the 2021 Olympia. Since then, he has added size and improved his conditioning, and we could see him making it into the top 10.

Charles Griffin displayed his best version of physique at his 2023 Legion Sports Fest win earlier this month and has a chance to finish at respectable positions in Olympia. Also, don’t forget 2023 New York Pro champion Tonio Burton, as the former 212 competitor has added quality size to his body and is an absolute poser.

Olympia debutants

This year, Ross Flanigan, Behrooz Tabani, Justin Shier, Roman Fritz, and Phil Clahar will make their Olympia debuts in Orlando. In the past, we have seen Olympia rookies failing to make the top 15. However, we have also seen debutants like Jacked making it to the top 10 in their debut.

2023 Women’s Physique Olympia Results

Aleksandr Katsuba: Strategic planning and war. How does a business plan to survive and grow?

War destroys the familiar world around us. It destroys the phantom stability that each of us builds in our heads and around us. Each of us wants to have our own comfort zone, at least to believe in its existence. This is also true for entrepreneurs who will do business in Ukraine. It would seem that where is Ukrainian business and where is the comfort zone? But only Russia’s full-scale invasion has clearly demonstrated to us that everything we thought was unstable and unpredictable was very much overestimated.

“So, the full-scale war came as a shock to everyone. For business, too. For the first few weeks, the only thing we did with our partners was to donate and rescue employees from the war zone. Then we started to recover, establish processes and return to operations. But uncertainty dominated and still dominates. A missile could still hit an operating company, key employees could be mobilised, or another wave of blackouts could occur due to Russian terrorist attacks. And this will be with us for a long time.

We all hope that the war will end in 2024, as we hoped for 2023 a year ago. And we will pray for it to happen. But we cannot guarantee it, we can only do our best to make it happen. But to find stability in our minds and in our business, we need to think about the future. We need to plan business development, build mechanisms to adapt to new challenges, look for new markets and optimisation mechanisms.

We have seen for ourselves that planning creates a feeling that the business is working and overcoming difficulties for a reason: there is a future ahead that is worth fighting for. The war reduced the planning horizon from two to three years to 3-12 months. There are too many uncertainties that accompany us. However, each of the business areas we operate in – financial services, gas industry and media business – are developing and adapting, finding new sources of income, employing people and allowing me and my partners to donate to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The key planning priorities now include saving the lives and incomes of our employees; maintaining customer loyalty and finding new ones; entering foreign markets to diversify revenue sources; and optimising costs and business processes. Planning allows us to identify key priorities and adapt our processes to the challenges that the Russian occupation army creates for us every day.  It is this prioritisation that allows us to understand why we should continue to work, stay in the country and continue to build our business against all odds.

Planning, adaptation and moving forward allows us to overcome the terrible routine that surrounds us and will continue to surround us: deaths, missile attacks, “chess games”, fear for our loved ones will accompany us for a long time. Planning and vision of what will happen next allows both owners and management to switch to modelling a better and more efficient future. This, in fact, allows us to at least stay at the current level.

Forming a vision of development reduces the level of psychological stress both at the individual and collective level, and reduces the tension of management and employees. For example, it is easier to abstract yourself from the events around you in business than in your personal or family life. It is business that allows you to form more optimistic or at least neutral expectations.

It is during acute crises that planning makes it possible to rationally allocate resources and get rid of all unnecessary things. It is long-term planning that makes it possible to set priorities in operational activities. And, ultimately, planning will make it possible to be the most prepared for the times of recovery and post-war development. After all, all we know about all wars is that they end sooner or later.

What should be done to make the plans effective? My partners and I have identified 4 key rules:

1. Think in a multivariate way. Plans should include scenarios for the development of events. Optimistic, conservative, pessimistic, catastrophic. Each of them should include the criteria that define it; a general action plan in case of implementation; possible consequences and an action plan after the event.

2. Plans should be flexible. Too detailed and rigid plans are difficult to implement in peacetime, but in wartime, in addition to specific steps, they should provide for some flexibility, adaptability and the ability to change them quickly. This gives confidence and is a direct consequence of the first point.

3. Try to avoid unnecessary emotions. We all believe in a quick win at an emotional peak, and almost all of us despair when we are at an emotional peak or just tired. We all get scared, and that’s normal. But it doesn’t work in planning. You have to work out a plan for, for example, the continuous operation of the business, for example, interaction with suppliers and customers in a blackout. Identify the necessary resources and procedures. This will put you above emotions.

4. Have positive scenarios. The owner or top manager should have enough arguments to motivate people. Demonstrate why relocation is better than keeping the company in place. Prove that entering the Polish market is an important diversification, not a chaotic decision. To argue that a plan to keep working during a blackout means keeping customers and employees’ income. Because every challenge is a new opportunity.

The future scenario will allow you to survive challenges, even if you are a small or medium-sized business. Many large corporations and small shops do not survive crises and shocks because they fall into the maelstrom of managerial collapse, when plans do not work, management panics and hundreds of wrong decisions are made. This can always be avoided if you look at the difficult future with a cool head. Exchange views with partners, management, employees, and key contractors. Then the quality of planning will increase by an order of magnitude, even if you are planning in the dark during power outages.

A picture of the future and planning gives us peace of mind. The brain draws a picture of the future and feels calmer. It adapts better to the new reality. Planning energises you. And all this together gives hope, purpose and meaning. Both in business and in your personal life. And this is the most important thing you need to survive the war and face peacetime stronger.”

‘Strong’ Ten Hag vows to turn things round at Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag came out fighting again today, insisting “this dressing room is strong, the coaches are strong and this manager is strong” as he attempts to quell growing unrest at Old Trafford.

Reports around Ten Hag’s future have started in earnest following back-to-back 3-0 defeats at home to Manchester City and Newcastle over the past week.

And, although United don’t appear in a rush to make a change, the Dutchman could certainly do with an improved performance and a win when he takes his side to Fulham tomorrow.

Asked to describe the mood of his players, he said: “They are positive, they want to put this right.

“We know the standards here and we have to match them every day. We have had two big setbacks but we will fight back. This dressing room is strong, the coaches are strong and this manager is strong to put this right.”

Ten Hag also clarified comments he made after the City game which were interpreted as him suggesting he didn’t have the quality of player he enjoyed at previous club Ajax to enable him to implement a passing style of play.

“I can’t play like Ajax because I have different players,” he said. “I came here with my philosophy which is based on possession football but also to combine it with the DNA of Manchester United and combine it with the players here.

“Last year, we played very good football. This season, the philosophy is no different.

“I emphasised we could go more direct but the understanding of direct they thought was long balls. No, I don’t want Andre Onana to go for long balls, I want to play from the back. We tried it every game, also against City. But when the opponent is operating a high press then to go direct is a good option.

“We want to press with different blocks and then go direct as we have the players who are very good at that.”

shutterstock 2291906289

When it was put to Ten Hag that no gameplan had been obvious in the last two games, he replied: “No, the intention is clear but the execution is not there. With the moment we are in, with so many changes in every game, we can’t line up the same in two or three games, every game we have to swap.

“Now we often miss players in the back four and we have to adjust, [so] we don’t have the routines. In the midfield we are missing Casemiro, an important player.

“I have never brought this up as we have to win and I don’t want to find excuses if we are not winning.

“I have a good squad and I am convinced by the players in the dressing room. We have seen last year that they can do a lot better but it’s up to me to let them play better.”

United announced earlier on Friday that Brazil midfielder Casemiro would be out for several weeks with a hamstring injury having come off at half-time against Newcastle. Raphael Varane is fit to return at Craven Cottage but fellow centre-half Victor Lindelof is a doubt through illness.

A new Manchester PR agency has been appointed by one of the UK’s leading specialist tax firms.

Finnoah PR, which officially launched last month, has been appointed by Manchester-based consultancy Forbes Dawson, which manages the tax affairs some of the UK’s most successful business owners and entrepreneurs, to enhance its growing regional and national profile.

Founded by award-winning PR expert and former senior national journalist Steven Kelly, the Stockport agency will spearhead Forbes Dawson’s media relations and social media strategy.

Top tier coverage

Kelly previously worked with Forbes Dawson at a former PR agency, where he secured placements for the client in leading media outlets, including FT Adviser, Sky News, The Telegraph, This is Money and Investors’ Chronicle.

Tom Minnikin, partner at Forbes Dawson, said Kelly’s earlier work had “far exceeded” expectations.

“Having worked with Steven for many months during this year and last, it was an easy decision to want to continue the success we have already experienced,” Mr Minnikin said.

“We very much look forward to further developing our profile at regional and national level. We are confident Finnoah PR is the right agency to help us achieve our aims.”

Exciting opportunity

Before moving into public relations in 2015, Kelly was a senior journalist for leading national newgroups such as Trinity Mirror, Reach Plc and Guardian Media Group.

“Since launching in 2012, Forbes Dawson has built a reputation for being the go-to adviser for those with complex tax affairs over the last decade,” he added. “The business is a leader in its field and consistently delivers tax expertise to clients and media, regularly showcasing its value to the millions of readers of key publications.

“The team is delighted to have welcomed the company to the Finnoah PR family and look forward to a successful future working together.”

Casemiro blow for struggling Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro will miss “several weeks” due to the hamstring injury sustained against Newcastle in the EFL Cup.

The Brazil international was taken off at half-time in the 3-0 defeat on Wednesday night after an underwhelming showing before the break.

Casemiro also missed Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City in the Premier League through injury and is now set for a longer spell on the sidelines.

A United statement read: “Casemiro will be out for several weeks due to a hamstring injury suffered during our Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United on Wednesday.

“The Brazilian midfielder was withdrawn at half-time due to the issue, and subsequent assessment has revealed a strain that will keep him out for a number of weeks.”
