Fifteen Years of Educational Alliance: INTO University Partnerships and Oregon State University

0

INTO University Partnerships and Oregon State University (OSU) are commemorating fifteen years of a partnership that has dramatically reshaped the educational experiences of a vast array of international students.

This partnership, forged in 2008, was aimed at amplifying OSU’s international appeal. It has successfully provided a broad spectrum of academic support and services to international students, including direct entry and specifically tailored preparatory programs for all undergraduate specialties, along with a comprehensive selection of postgraduate degrees. OSU is lauded among the top 1.4% of universities globally and is noted for its graduates being among the top 20% earners in the US.

Situated on the historic grounds of the OSU campus, the INTO OSU Centre stands as a bustling focal point of learning, offering students an additional layer of academic and personal support, thanks to the unwavering dedication of its staff and faculty.

This pioneering initiative in the US has been pivotal in propelling over 11,900 international students from more than 155 countries towards academic excellence in their chosen fields. Students supported by INTO OSU have notably achieved representation across all of OSU’s academic colleges at the PhD level.

Edward Feser, Provost and Executive Vice President at Oregon State University and a member of the INTO OSU Board, stated: “In 15 years of collaboration, the INTO Oregon State University partnership helped bring more than 12,000 international students to OSU. This has strengthened the university by enriching the intercultural experiences of domestic students; providing support for faculty hires, infrastructure, and study abroad opportunities; influencing improvements to our academic program mix; and elevating OSU’s global visibility and brand.”

John Sykes, CEO of INTO University Partnerships, remarked: “Our partnership with Oregon State University marked a real breakthrough moment in US public universities’ approach to internationalizing the student experience. We could not be prouder of our partnership and what it has accomplished. It has been a privilege to watch the life-changing experiences this great American university has delivered to the thousands of Chinese students who made Corvallis their home.”

Bob Gilmour, INTO OSU’s Executive Director, reflected: “At INTO OSU, we’re so proud of the students we have supported over the last 15 years and the range of academic, personal, and professional successes that they have gone on to achieve. Over that time, it’s really been an honor to have been a part of a team of people at INTO OSU that shows up every day to put students first and provide them with the support and experience that they deserve.

“With both INTO and OSU’s combined efforts, this pioneering Centre has played a significant role in raising the standards and expectations for international student support in higher education from application to graduation and beyond. And as a team, we at INTO OSU look forward to the next 15 years with as much passion and excitement as the day this innovative model was conceived.”

The enduring collaboration continues to report exceptional student satisfaction and retention rates. The establishment of International Direct Services by OSU in 2020, which provides tailored academic and personal support to all international undergraduates in their first year, has significantly smoothed the transition into their degree programmes at OSU. Since the establishment of INTO OSU, the retention rates for first-year students have impressively risen to 95%.

INTO University Partnerships has been at the forefront of connecting ambitious international students with premier institutions in the US, UK, and Australia. Since its inception in 2005, INTO has facilitated the academic dreams of over 150,000 students from 180 countries, helping them secure degrees from globally esteemed universities.

Lewis Hamilton backs Mercedes move for Vettel

Lewis Hamilton believes Mercedes should pursue a deal for Sebastian Vettel after the German said he was open to coming out of retirement.

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari for next season means there is a void to fill at Mercedes with four-time world champion Vettel among the potential replacements.

The 36-year-old retired from Formula One at the end of the 2022 season having won four straight drivers’ championships with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013 before representing Ferrari and Aston Martin.

Speaking at Suzuka ahead of this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, Hamilton told reporters: “I would love for Seb to come back and I think it would be an amazing option for the team.

“German driver, multi-world championship winning driver, and someone who has amazing values who would continue to take the team forward. I’d love it if he came back.”

A short-term deal for veteran Vettel may turn out to be Mercedes’ preferred option to give 17-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli, a rising star in Formula 2, more time to develop.

Hamilton added: “The only thing I really care about is that the team takes on someone that with integrity and that are aligned with the team and where the team’s going. Someone compassionate that’s able to work with great people and continues to lift them up. There’s so many great people in this team.

“And as drivers there are some that are more selfish than others, there are some that are good drivers but perhaps not the best within the team environment, I don’t know because I’m not been in with all of them . But I hope they find someone great.

“They’ve already got George [Russell] and he’s perfect so finding a good option alongside him I’m sure they’ve got so many good options. They’ve got so many options. I do think it’s always great to give an opportunity to up and coming drivers so the idea of a youngster coming in for me is exciting.”

Manchester City 4 -1 Aston Villa: Foden sparkles with wonderful hat-trick

0

Phil Foden revealed he wasn’t on free-kicks despite dispatching one tonight on the way to a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa.

The England international curled one through a feeble Villa wall to restore the hosts’ advantage shortly before half-time. He then scored two fantastic goals to complete his treble and move City to within a point of the Premier League summit.

Foden told TNT Sports: “I don’t actually practice them. I’m not sure why I took that one [for the second goal], Julian [Alvarez] was on them but I just felt confident at the time.

“I asked him if he minded me having that one and to be fair he gave it to me and it paid off in the end.”

Rodri grabbed City’s opener and the Spain midfielder also laid on Foden’s second with a wonderful piece of skill on the edge of the Villa area.

“I’m lost for words with this guy,” Foden said. “He is our most important player. When he doesn’t play there is a clear difference.”

City remain third, although they will slip three points behind Liverpool again tomorrow if Jurgen Klopp’s men see off rock-bottom Sheffield United at Anfield.

Foden said: “We don’t really look too far ahead. If we are in and around it with 10 games to go then we know we are capable. We are in and around it again now so it is still possible. We have to keep believing. That was what the manager was big on today, believe and fight until the end.”

Pep Guardiola left out Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland with both named on the bench after appearing jaded during Sunday’s goalless draw with Arsenal.

He insisted that should not be interpreted as him weakening his line-up ahead of the challenges to come, however.

He told BBC MOTD: “We put the players out to win it not just to rest players. We need fresh legs and we only played three days ago against Arsenal. We needed it because of the schedule so we needed the rest.”

Villa beat City 1-0 in a dominant performance before Christmas but boss Unai Emery admitted his side were second best tonight.

He told TNT Sports: “Until the first goal we played well. We had a chance to draw the match but when they scored the third goal they showed their power. They are up there with Arsenal and Liverpool and today they confirmed it.

“We have some injuries, we played Saturday and again this week. We have to try and save some players. We decided to do a competitive team with some young players too to get some confidence. At the end of the match we know they deserved the match, they were better than us and they showed it.

“The focus is now Brentford. Difficult match coming up on Saturday.”

Man Utd injury news: Ten Hag gets Varane and Evans boost ahead of Chelsea clash

0

Manchester United have been boosted by the news that Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans are back in training, easing the Red Devils’ defensive selection crisis ahead of Thursday’s trip to Chelsea.

United have been hampered by injuries in recent weeks, and on Tuesday, it was revealed that both Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof will miss around a month due to muscle issues.

Martinez has suffered a calf strain, having only returned from a knee problem as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford, which represented his 11th appearance of an injury-hit season.

Man Utd: Martinez and Lindelof out for a month as injury concerns mount

The Argentine replaced Lindelof after the Sweden international sustained a hamstring injury, while Varane was also substituted as a precautionary measure at the Gtech Community Stadium.

With Evans also managing a minor injury, United were facing up to the prospect of Harry Maguire – who himself limped out of England’s defeat to Brazil during the international break – being their only senior centre-back available for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

However, at Wednesday’s press conference Ten Hag revealed Varane and Evans were due to train that afternoon and should be in contention to face the Blues.

“We have no more issues. We don’t need them! In the frontline and midfield we are okay, we have options there,” Ten Hag said.

“In the backline we have a lack of options, but the good thing is this afternoon Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans are back in training.

“Harry Maguire was already back in training yesterday.”

The likes of Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are long-term absentees for a United side which has been hamstrung by a series of muscle injuries this campaign.

Ten Hag believes the club may have uncovered the cause of the problem via an internal investigation, though he is not yet willing to share it.

“We have an idea but I think we will work on that internally, we will deal with it,” the Dutchman said.

United are not the only Premier League team battling a lengthy injury list, with the likes of Newcastle United, Liverpool and Wolves having been without several key players for recent fixtures.

Asked if there were ways of mitigating injury risks, Ten Hag said: “You can’t prevent them, it’s not only us who’ve had this.

“The standards of the Premier League, from an intensity perspective, are so high, the overload of the schedule, international football is also huge, we have internationals in our squad.

“Liverpool and Newcastle have problems, so do many other teams. At this moment, we are especially down in the defensive department but in midfield and the frontline, players are available.”

Sebastian Vettel considering Formula One return amid Mercedes talks

Sebastian Vettel has revealed he is considering a return to Formula One and has held talks with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, though nothing concrete has yet been proposed.

Vettel retired from F1 at the end of the 2022 season, having won four straight drivers’ championships with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013 before representing Ferrari and Aston Martin.

The 36-year-old is now contemplating a return to the sport, though, and there will soon be a high-profile opening at Mercedes.

With Lewis Hamilton having agreed to join Ferrari for 2025, Vettel has engaged in talks with Mercedes boss Wolff, who has come under fierce pressure amid the team’s poor start to 2024.

“I’m talking to a lot of people because I know them, but it’s not very specific,” Vettel told Sky Sports. “Obviously, it [returning] does cross my mind, I do think about it but it’s not the main thought.

“I have three kids at home, it’s busy every day, so there’s a lot of other thoughts I have. I am speaking to Toto. I don’t know if that qualifies as Mercedes, but also about other things.

“There’s ideas that I have, events that I’m planning going forwards, so I did speak to a lot of other team principals as well, and not only about racing.

“There’s thoughts, but nothing concrete at the minute.”

Meanwhile, Vettel is intrigued to see how his former rival Hamilton will fare with the Scuderia, though he believes the presence of another genuine contender in Charles Leclerc could make for an interesting dynamic within the team.

“I was surprised, like most of us, but it’s exciting,” Vettel said of Hamilton’s move. “Obviously, he’s looking for a new challenge and it will be different to see him in red, in a different colour.

“Charles is good, Charles is easy. He’s very quick, very competitive but so is Lewis. So it’s more difficult for the team to manage.”

10 Ways to Improve Your Facebook Videos

Since Facebook video is a top priority for marketers, we’d like to help you get ahead of this growing trend. We offer practical tips to help increase the number of views, engagement and shares of your video content on this social network.

Facebook is constantly evolving and introducing new features, so your video marketing strategy should too. To create high-quality videos, you don’t need to have editing skills. You can get professional results by using the Vjump video editor.

  1. Create a square format

Research shows that square videos outperform horizontal videos in terms of average engagement, views, and reach, especially on mobile devices.

  1. Grab people’s attention right away

Facebook videos play automatically, but it’s important to convince users to watch them for as long as possible. Thus, the video should have a powerful opening that captivates the audience even without sound.

  1. Add subtitles

85% of Facebook videos are watched without sound. If a viewer can’t understand your video without audio, you’ll likely lose them and the opportunity to convey your message to them. To prevent this, you can add subtitles to the video.

  1. Invite viewers to click on sound

Another neat way to bypass the silent autoplay of Facebook videos is to have viewers click on the sound in a pop-up window.

  1. Focus on one key point

If you want to make a shareable video, focus on one easy-to-understand idea. Summarize the point in one sentence – simple but compelling.

image2

  1. Upload your videos directly

Videos uploaded to Facebook perform much better than links to YouTube or similar video platforms.

  1. Come up with a descriptive title

Take Facebook’s recommendation and add a title and descriptive title that will make the video easier to find.

  1. Adapt videos for different social networks

If you have a presence on multiple social networks, you may need to share the video across all platforms. It is best to adapt your text for each social network, this may include a certain character limit, the use of lists, adding quotes and emoticons.

  1. Add a call to action

Having a call to action (CTA) in your video is a great way to encourage engagement, drive traffic to your website, and even convert viewers into customers.

  1. Tag other pages

Another feature you can use to try to get your video out on Facebook is tagging other pages that either contributed to the video or that you would like to share the content with.
