Founded by Rushnara Ali MP and Alveena Malik, 1MM aims to improve young people’s life and employability chances, and strengthen local communities.

The scheme works by pairing up mentees with mentors from a diverse range of sectors and backgrounds, offering young people one-to-one mentoring so that they can gain the knowledge, networks, skills and confidence they need to succeed. To date, 1MM are approaching 4,000 mentees who will have been connected to a mentor, and over half of mentees are considered to be from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds.

As part of the 1MM/NCS partnership, the 12-month scheme will match a further 400 mentees, aged 15-17, with 400 mentors from across Greater Manchester, and also areas of East London and the West Midlands.

Mentor Rebecca Dudley, who works at Deliveroo as a Strategy and Sales Operations Manager, said: “I really enjoyed the Mentor introduction session at HideOut Youth Zones amazing site in Gorton. It was great to meet the 1MM & HideOut teams and learn more about how the programme will support the young people. I am looking forward to the first mentoring session next month!’’

Mark Gifford, CEO of NCS Trust said: “NCS is extremely proud to be working with 1MM on this unique mentoring programme. This scheme will boost young people’s employability opportunities and also introduce them to what NCS has to offer – improving their confidence, equipping them with the skills they need to be world ready and work ready, and broadening their horizons by mixing with people from all walks of life.”

Housing Management Team at Ward Hadaway’s Celebrates 10 Years’ Service

Ward Hadaway’s housing management team is commemorating its tenth anniversary this year and has welcomed the appointment of a new director.

As a result of their recruitment in 2013, the housing management team has experienced significant growth. What originally started as two people based out of the firm’s Leeds office, the recent appointment of Amy Stirton as director alongside Chloe Middlemas and Holly Templeman has taken headcount of the specialist team to 14. The team now have experienced housing management lawyers in each of Ward Hadaway’s three locations.

Considered as one of the most established legal teams working within the sector, turnover has trebled since 2020 and this has been boosted by their successful appointment to four legal panel frameworks for major social housing clients in the last 18 months.

The housing management team is part of the Chambers-ranked Social Housing Group at Ward Hadaway. Led by Julia Thomson, it continues to secure new client wins and increase its headcount, providing a truly holistic service to an impressive list of regional and national clients.

The housing management team was originally established by Partners John Murray and Simon Thirtle. Bringing their specialist expertise and experience, they launched a comprehensive service to support many of the firms’ local authorities, housing association clients and other sector partners, working on matters including tenancy management, enforcement action and defending housing disrepair claims.

Last month, Amy Stirton joined the team as Legal Director and is based with fellow Director Melanie Dirom at the firm’s Manchester office. She has over 10 years’ experience acting on behalf of social housing clients nationally and specialises in all aspects of housing management and complex antisocial behaviour.

She joins from her previous firm where she was a Senior Associate and is a recommended lawyer for Social Housing in Legal 500. She has delivered training nationally on areas such as antisocial behaviour, tackling domestic abuse and effective use of community protection notices, and has provided expert guidance on preparing good quality evidence in support of litigated tenancy enforcement cases.

Commenting on her appointment, Amy said: “The team at Ward Hadaway are widely recognised as leading legal providers within the social housing sector. I have known of the team and its reputation for many years and am delighted to have joined.”

Also joining Amy last month were Chloe Middlemas and Holly Templeman who have been appointed as paralegals based in the Newcastle and Leeds offices respectively.

Head of the housing management team, Partner Simon Thirtle, said: “I’m so proud of what we have achieved over the last ten years, both with regard to the expansion of the team and the professional development of its people. Now based across each of our three offices, we provide a highly effective service to our clients across the North and much further afield.

“As our reputation has grown, so too has our client base within the sector. This has enabled us to attract high-calibre solicitors such as Amy to join our team. I’m delighted to welcome her, Chloe and Holly to Ward Hadaway and look forward to working with them all.”

John Murray, now based within the firm’s Newcastle office, said: “The speed and growth of the team has been truly remarkable. Working with our colleagues in the wider social housing group, our experience and ability to provide a one-stop solution at such a high level for our clients sets us apart from other firms.

“We have helped build our reputation through a very open and collaborative approach. At regular free “law schools”, we have shared our knowledge and best practice with industry colleagues, and provided a forum to collectively discuss issues and topics that are happening within the sector.”

Photo Editing: Easy Steps to Create a Masterpiece

0

Getting a good shot and taking a photo is only half the job. Image post-processing is very important and allows you to create a real masterpiece. So if your pictures don’t look like the ones on your favorite photographers’ websites, don’t feel bad. Sometimes a little retouching and color correction can go a long way. If you want to find the best editing software for photography right now, we recommend exploring the materials on the blog of the Skylum developer.

Photo editing comes in many forms, as some completely change the images and create a fantastic world. But most of the time, professional photographers just correct imperfections to make the picture look much more attractive. Today we will show you how to achieve stunning results in just a few steps.

Find Your Editing Style

There is no one right or perfect way to edit photos. Professional photographers use radically different post-processing styles. Some experiment with brightness and color saturation, while others prefer black-and-white photography. Some like bright, vibrant images, while others use darker, darker tones.

To decide on a style, look at social media and photographers’ portfolios. Pay attention to the things that attract you. Try to figure out what you like about an image. Is it the composition or the look of the picture? If it’s the latter, you’re sure it’s the editing. Once you understand what you want, you can achieve it with the best editing software for photography.

Choose the Best Photo Editor For You

There are many free photo editors available today. Some are very simple and are good for cropping and resizing photos. Others are more advanced and allow you to completely change the image.

Most professional photographers use Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, or Luminar Neo. All of this software is available by subscription, including Lightroom and Photoshop, so let’s take a closer look at each of these options:

  • Ever wanted to do more with your photos? Luminar Neo is an innovative image editor powered by the AI technologies of the future that simplifies complex editing processes and empowers creators to bring their wildest ideas to life and have fun doing it. Luminar Neo also helps you organize your images.
  • Adobe Photoshop is an exceptional editor that lets you not only correct and retouch images, but also transform shapes, save GIF animations, and apply layers and effects. These features make it easy to transform, clone, enhance and apply various filters to create a colorful, sellable image.
  • Any photo can be made more expressive by increasing contrast, changing lighting, and adjusting color settings. Adobe Lightroom was designed to do just that. But while its functionality was limited in the past, today there are several plug-ins available for professional photographers that allow them to process fresh shots faster, easier, and with higher quality, and Lightroom also helps organize files.

Above, we listed the best editing software for photography, but most photographers still choose the first two options. Is it better to use Luminar Neo or Photoshop for professional results? Both tools are great, but it all depends on how much editing you know and how many features you need. If you want a tool with a feature set that’s easy to use, Luminar Neo is better. If you need software that offers powerful settings and a complex editing process, Photoshop is better.

Use Filters, Actions, and Presets

Filters or presets are a combination of settings that give a photo a specific look. Open a photo in Luminar Neo or Lightroom and click on the various built-in presets. Watch the photo change automatically. This is a good way to see which filter works best.

Many good presets are sold online. Some photographers offer free presets or sell them in kits. Filters in various editors also help photos look more professional and don’t require complicated technical knowledge. You can also use actions in Photoshop. This is a set of actions that you can write down and then apply to any image. With this feature, designers automate their work and don’t have to do the same thing many times a day.

Take Advantage of Automatic Adjustments

As photo editors evolve, so do their algorithms for automatically enhancing images. They allow the program to analyze the picture and suggest appropriate changes. The best editing software for photography for beginners always includes this option.

Many professional photographers skip the automatic processing tool, but some admit to using this feature in Lightroom. For example, Lightroom doesn’t change the quality of the original image, so if you don’t like what you see, you can undo all the changes.

Remove Blemishes and Unwanted Objects

Attention to detail is important in any type of photography. To make the picture look perfect, you may need to remove some details or clutter from the background. In photo editors, it’s easy to remove anything unnecessary. Just use the delete tool. In Lightroom, you can click on the area you want to remove, and the program will select another part of the photo to replace it. Lightroom is usually good at this.

Many photographers use Adobe Photoshop to clean up photos because it’s more functional. For example, you can remove people from a square or change an entire building there. With Luminar Neo, you can delete unwanted objects (like power lines) or camera artifacts with a single click. This photo editor quickly recognizes all unnecessary elements thanks to its built-in AI.

Make Colors More Vibrant

Whether you prefer bright photos or a more subdued palette, adjusting colors can help your photo look more professional. There are plenty of tools to help. You can usually adjust contrast, saturation, and brightness in photo editing software.

Contrast, for example, affects color because it determines the difference between light and shadow in a photo. If you shoot in RAW format, your photos will look flat. To add depth, the first thing you need to do is adjust the contrast.

How to create a productive working environment – 5 tips for business leaders

0

No matter how much you love your business, you can’t do everything on your own. With a strong team of employees, you might be able to make your business more popular and deliver better results to your clients.

Even if you’re the one who created the company, there might be gaps in your knowledge, and that is where employees can be incredibly beneficial. When you delegate tasks smartly and play to the strengths of the team, you can achieve incredible things.

But to make sure that your employees can fulfil their potential, you need to provide them with a workplace where they can focus. Our guide will help you to create a productive working environment where your employees can concentrate and collaborate without any interruptions.

Equip your office with the right furniture

When you run a company where your employees need to sit by the computer all day, it can become highly uncomfortable and sometimes even dangerous to their health. Therefore, you should make sure that the office has all the right pieces of furniture they might need. For instance, ergonomic chairs might relieve your employees from back pain.

At the same time, the workers might be able to stay comfortable throughout the day and maintain good posture. You might also want to provide them with standing desks. These might help your employees to focus better and improve their energy levels throughout the day. With comfortable furniture, the workers might be able to achieve better results and make your clients happy.

Ensure the workspace is well-lit

To help your employees to become more productive, make sure that you let in plenty of natural light. However, you also need to light up the office with the right fixtures, so your employees feel good even on a cloudy day when the world seems particularly dark. If you want to make the workplace more sustainable and cut down your energy bills, you might want to explore the option of LED lights. Unlike older light bulbs, these can imitate natural sunlight and, as a result, make your employees feel more energetic and focused. When you provide them with a well-lit environment, you might also be able to improve their health. With good light, they might avoid eye strain or headaches and progress with their projects with no obstacles.

Maintain the building

Another thing you can do to boost employee productivity in your company is to maintain the building in good condition. Ensure that the workplace is clean and that your employees can move around without any issues. You also need to regularly check if gas, electricity and plumbing are in good condition. To check if the electrical circuits in the building are safe to use, get in touch with professionals from Trade Facilities Services and book an assessment today. If the inspection goes well, you might be able to get an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR certificate) and rest assured that your employees are safe in the building. But if the assessment doesn’t go well, you could create a list of things that need your immediate attention and improve the safety conditions at the workplace.

Pay attention to colours and décor

When you’re creating a workplace for your employees, décor might seem insignificant. However, the interior design and overall impression can have a significant impact on the focus and productivity of your employees. Colours can be a powerful tool and might make a difference to the results of your employees. If you want to make your employees more efficient, consider including blue in the interior. To boost creativity, you can play around with yellow and help the workers to come up with more unique ideas. And if you aspire to create a calm working environment, you should explore different shades of green. By making the workspace look pleasant and welcoming, your employees might feel more excited about coming to work every day, and they might try harder to provide the clients with the best results possible.

Conclusion: Ask employees for advice

If your company struggles with employee productivity and motivation, you might want to bring attention to the workplace. To help your employees to focus on the task at hand, they need to feel comfortable and relaxed. With the right furniture, you might be able to make them feel more at peace and improve their working experience. Light up the office and allow your employees to see their work better. When they don’t need to worry about headaches, eye strain or back pain, your employees might be able to concentrate better and come up with ideas and solutions that are unique and creative. To get to the top, you need to make your employees feel appreciated and supported. And with the right conditions for work, they might become more efficient and help the business to grow.

Best-Ever Month Recorded for Apadmi as Year-On-Year Revenue Rises by 68 per Cent Thanks to New Client Wins

Apadmi, a digital product business, has recorded its best-ever trading month in January 2023 – a year-on-year increase of 68 per cent – thanks to a raft of new, high-profile client wins and annual renewals of their long-standing clients.

EventUK and DayInsure both came to the company, which is headquartered in Salford, for system integration and the creation of digital products across mobile and web. They joined Apadmi’s impressive list of existing clients, which includes Domino’s, NHS, Wattbike, BBC, Co-op, Argos and Chetwood Financial.

The revenue increase comes after Apadmi predicted in August 2022 that turnover was set to grow by 66 per cent in the current financial year following expansion across Europe and the acquisition of The Mobile Company.

Its continued diversification of services has also been popular, as the company further expanded its guidance on strategy and consultancy and user research as well as the creation of mobile apps and websites.

Apadmi’s CEO, Garry Partington, commented:

“I am delighted that we have recorded such impressive year-on-year growth. It is a testament to our team that such high-profile clients want to work with us and we are looking forward to continued expansion in the coming months.

“We are also grateful to our clients for cutting through the noise and choosing Apadmi. They understand how we can support growth ambitions, increase customer retention and improve efficiencies while at the same time helping them make cost savings,” he added.

Coronation Street: Irwin Mitchell Advise on Draft Scripts and Storylines

Latest Project Demonstrates Law Firm’s Expertise In The Media & Entertainment Sector

Specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have advised scriptwriters at ITV on the latest dramatic storyline for Coronation Street.

Irwin Mitchell has been working with Coronation Street researchers for four years and the firm continues to provide advice to ensure proposed storylines are legally accurate.

As part of the agreement, specialists from the firm’s Criminal, Regulatory and Investigations Group, use their expertise, particularly in the Criminal Justice System, to answer questions and advise on the accuracy or otherwise of many legal aspects of a storyline. This ranges from the language ordinarily used by lawyers in the Criminal Courts to advice on the likely sentence a character would receive for committing a particular offence.

By way of a recent example, the team of specialists advised on the storyline which saw Blake Myers plead guilty to attempted murder and preparation of terrorist acts. Advice centred around the Court procedure and the likely sentence that would be imposed.

The advice offered predominantly relates to criminal offence storylines; however, the team’s input is not limited to this extent. The experts within the team also have significant technical knowledge and experience of inquests and regulatory work, including professional discipline and investigations by professional bodies other than the Police, such as the Financial Conduct Authority, HMRC and the Health and Safety Executive.

Jack Deslandes from ITV said: “The team provides timely written advice as and when required, which can be followed up by a discussion to answer any queries if required. The advice and recommendations that the team have provided to date is very helpful and thorough and we are delighted to continue working with them”.

Kathryn Pitters, Associate Solicitor Advocate, has more than 10 years of experience practicing as a barrister in the Criminal Courts and being instructed by individuals and companies to act as their solicitor. Kathryn is able to use this first-hand experience to provide well-rounded and comprehensive advice on a range of legal issues.

Kathryn Pitters said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our expertise to such a great show which is watched by millions each week and covers such a diverse range of issues. As a full-service law firm, Irwin Mitchell can advise on scripts and storylines which require legal input across a wide range of personal, financial and business-related issues”.

In 2020, lawyers from the family law and public law teams advised on a major plot line involving Leanne Battersby and Steve McDonald who were told by doctors their son Oliver had been diagnosed with mitochondrial disease and may never be able to breathe unaided again.

Irwin Mitchell’s Media & Entertainment team provides legal advice to individuals and businesses across the music, TV, film, literary, gaming and digital media industries. The firm acts for international recording artists and song writers; record labels; influencers; TV & film production companies; and world renowned authors, designers, and photographers.

Children’s ‘Little Book of Travel Tales’ Launched by Manchester Airport to Mark World Book Day

Encounters with pandas, family reunions and magic dolls all feature in Manchester Airport’s new ’Little Book of Travel Tales’.

Including stories written by children who have flown through the airport in recent times, the free book has been launched to celebrate World Book Day, and the airport has printed 5,000 copies which will be handed out to children travelling through over Easter, as well as to pupils visiting the AeroZone education centre.

MAG – which owns and operates Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports – put out a call for submissions last year and received hundreds of entries, which were whittled down to winners from nine schools;

  • Didsbury C of E Primary School, Stockport
  • New Moston Primary School, Manchester
  • Queensgate Primary School, Stockport
  • Ringway Primary School, Wythenshawe
  • Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Wythenshawe
  • Stockport Home Education Community, Stockport

One of the selected stories tells the tale of a panda-obsessed girl called Emily, who wins a competition to travel to China and see her favourite animal in the wild.

Another recounts the adventures of a mischievous toy doll called Dolly, who escapes the suitcase she has been packed into whilst in the hold of a plane and befriends a teddy, before finding – and eating – a whole box full of crisps.

Poems submitted include an entry from nine-year-old Noah about the various jobs at the airport, and another by 7-year-old Milose about seeing a plane in the night sky and wondering about where it might be travelling to.

The book also contains puzzles, wordsearches and a range of other fun activities to keep youngsters occupied whilst they wait for their flights.

Manchester Airport’s Head of Education, Skills and Employment, Marcella M’Rabety, said: “We were blown away by the quality and variety of entries we received for the ‘Little Book of Travel Tales’ and are very grateful to participating schools and their pupils.

“Literacy is a vital skill and World Book Day plays an important part in encouraging children to discover the joy of reading and writing. We were keen to support World Book Day through our education programme and tapping into youngsters’ enthusiasm for travel and adventure felt like a natural fit.

“I know the pupils involved all had a great deal of fun writing the stories and poems, and I hope our passengers get just as much enjoyment from reading them.”

The ‘Little Book of Travel Tales’ is part of a wider programme of education and school outreach work that Manchester Airport is engaged in. AeroZone, an on-site educational centre, was opened last year by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham. It provides a mix of teaching space and interactive zones, including a mocked-up plane cabin with real seats and a cockpit, complete with flight simulator. It is available for school trip bookings for primary school pupils across the North.

Meanwhile, the MAG Connect Airport Academy provides dedicated support to the long-term unemployed and other disadvantaged groups, offering free training courses and skills workshops in partnership with Trafford College, making over 4,000 job referrals last year.
