Arsenal v Lens: Preview, expected line-ups and prediction

The State of Play

Arsenal have taken nine points from their four Group B games which may be enough to see them advance before a ball is kicked tomorrow night. If Sevilla beat PSV Eindhoven in the 1745 kick off then Mikel Arteta’s men will be guaranteed a top-two finish. Should PSV get at least a point in Spain then Arsenal will still go through with a draw against Lens.

The permutations appear favourable for Arsenal on what has been an impressive return to the Champions League. The Gunners are also on a decent run with successive wins over Sevilla, Burnley and Brentford, the latter coming at the weekend courtesy of Kai Havertz’s late goal.

Lens are also in good form having overcome a woeful start to the season. Franck Haise’s side lost four of their opening five Ligue 1 games but have turned it around to sit sixth in the table. They have also won their last two league fixtures, against Marseille and Clermont Foot.

The reverse fixture saw Lens come from behind to win 2-1.

Team News

All eyes will be on the team sheet when it’s released an hour before kick-off to see who Arteta has selected in goal. The clamour for Aaron Ramsdale to re-take the number one spot has subsided following his shaky display at Brentford – David Raya was unable to play that game against his parent club. It’s expected Raya will return tomorrow night.

Lens will have centre-half Kevin Danso available after he missed the weekend win at Clermont with a foot injury. Striker Morgan Guilavogui is suspended while Deiver Machado has an adductor injury and could miss out. Striker Elye Wahi can play as his suspension for being sent-off on Saturday only applies to domestic fixtures.

Expected Line-ups

Arsenal: Raya; Tomiyasu, Gabriel, Saliba, Zinchenko; Rice, Odegaard, Trossard; Saka, Martinelli, Jesus

Lens: Samba; Danso, Khusanov, Medina; Aguilar, El Aynaoui, Abdul Samed, Frankowski; Thomasson, Fulgini, Wahi

What they said

Mikel Arteta on if he’s enjoying managing in the Champions League
“Yes, I am enjoying it, it’s a great feeling, it makes you feel proud. It makes you feel that’s the level that we should be at. We are competing really well so let’s continue to do so.
“It’s normal that we have to prove ourselves, being back in Europe, to be the club we want to be, to get the results that tell everyone we are back in a strong way. We haven’t done that yet and that has to be done.”

Former France defender Adil Rami speaking to Amazon Prime on Elye Wahi’s red card at the weekend and his hot-headedness
“To grow, he has to make small mistakes like that. You make mistakes, you grow. But if he continues, he will look like a certain Mario Balotelli. Today we will forgive him. Franck Haise defends him [publicly], but perhaps he does not say the same things in the dressing room. We should defend him, he’s young. But if he makes the same mistakes tomorrow, it won’t happen the same way.”

When and how to watch

The game kicks off at 2000 UK time at the Emirates Stadium. It can be watched in the UK on TNT Sports 2, with the programme starting at 7pm.

Prediction

Arsenal are unbeaten at the Emirates this season and it’s tough to see Lens changing that statistic. Arteta will know finishing top of the group has additional benefits – most likely avoiding the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the round of 16 as well as having home advantage in the second leg.
Expect a comfortable Arsenal win.

Tiger Woods planning to play one event per month in 2024

Tiger Woods has set himself the target of playing one event per month in 2024 ahead of his much-anticipated return to the PGA Tour at this week’s Hero World Challenge.

Fifteen-time major winner Woods has not played competitively since the Masters in April, when he was forced to withdraw after reaggravating his plantar fasciitis in his right leg.

Woods has been affected by leg injuries since being involved in a serious car accident in February 2021, and he underwent the latest in a long series of surgeries to address arthritis in his ankle after the Masters.

Having spent over six months on the sidelines, Woods will make his return when he tees off as tournament host in the Bahamas on Thursday, and he hopes a successful outing will set him up for more regular appearances next year.

Asked about his plans for 2024 at a press conference on Tuesday, Woods said: “I think the best scenario would be maybe a tournament a month.

“I think that’s realistic. We’d have to start maybe at Genesis, then something in March, maybe the Players… The biggest events are one per month, so it sets us up for that. Now, I need to get myself ready for all that, and I think this week is a big step in that direction.

“It’s the end of the year so this sets up expectations going into the following year, so it’s a nice landing spot and a great springboard into the following year.

“Then my foundation benefits from it, so there are so many positives to take from me being able to play in this tournament. Hopefully this will be a positive step into next year.”

Woods was in visible discomfort on his last outing and was also forced to withdraw from last year’s edition of the Hero World Challenge, but he is confident his ankle will hold up after his latest procedure.

“My game feels rusty. I haven’t played in a while,” he said. “I’m excited to compete and play and I’m just as curious as all of you to see what happens!

“I haven’t done it in a while, but I can tell you this; I don’t have any of the pain that I had at Augusta or before that in my ankle.

“Other parts are taking the brunt of the load so I’m a little more sore in some other areas, but the ankle is good. So that surgery was a success.

“I’m not concerned at all about walking it. As I said, I don’t have any pain in the ankle, that’s all gone, but it’s the other parts of my body; my knee hurts, my back… the force has to go somewhere else up the chain.”

Woods also opened up on his choice to undergo ankle fusion, rather than a full replacement, saying: “In the past couple of years I’ve had a number of surgeries. At some point, I was going to have to get my ankle replaced or fused.

“The doctors weren’t expecting me to put that much force into that ankle. The ankle just went [at the Masters], it was bone-on-bone, that’s why you saw me limping and not feeling very good.

“The only way to get that fixed was to get it replaced or fused, and we went with the fusion. The next part was the hard part, six months of doing nothing. That was the hard part.

“The first couple of months were really rough, and unfortunately I’ve had the experience, I’ve been through it before. I’m here on the good side now.”

Not captain material? Fernandes unfazed by Manchester United critics Keane and Ince

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes insists he is not affected by criticism of his leadership abilities, with club legend Roy Keane among those to suggest he should be stripped of the armband.

Fernandes’ captaincy credentials have repeatedly been called into question since Erik ten Hag handed him the armband in July, amid questions over the future of previous skipper Harry Maguire.

Following October’s 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford, former Red Devils captain-turned Sky Sports pundit Keane said: “I would take the captaincy off him, 100 per cent.

“He is a talented player, no doubt about it. We’ve discussed this many times before, it was like this last season at Liverpool… his whinging, his moaning and throwing his arms up in the air constantly. It really isn’t acceptable.”

Keane is not the only United great to question Fernandes’ suitability for the role, with Paul Ince telling talkSPORT on Monday: “I don’t know what I see in Fernandes, he is not a leader by the way he plays.”

Those criticisms were put to Fernandes at a press conference to preview Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League trip to Galatasaray on Tuesday, but the creative midfielder brushed them off.

“Obviously you don’t like to be criticised, everyone is the same, but at the same time I have to do what I think is the best for my team,” Fernandes said.

“It is quite normal when you play for Manchester United that you are going to get criticised, even if you do well or bad, if you do the wrong or the right thing.

“I just have to deal with that, it is normal since I arrived at the club.

“I know since I arrived at the club my numbers made me a target. Now not keeping the same numbers on goals and assists is sometimes a problem for me in people’s criticism, they take it from there.

“Now it’s the captaincy, there is always going to be something. Now my focus is on the team, the staff, everyone who works with me day by day, I think they are pretty happy with me.

“The way I am has been the same since I arrived at the club, it has not changed since I was made captain. I don’t think it has to change.

“I am really open with everyone so no one until now has had a problem with me. I think I should keep it like that. Everyone is pretty happy with my leadership.”

Elevating lending: Unravelling the potential of digital loan origination

0

In a financial landscape increasingly defined by digitalisation, the concept of loan origination has undergone a profound transformation.

Traditional loan application processes, often notorious for their cumbersome paperwork and prolonged timelines, have given way to a new era characterised by efficiency, speed, and enhanced user experiences. Within this evolving narrative, the advent of Digital Loan Origination emerges as a pivotal chapter, redefining how lenders and borrowers interact and transact.

The evolution unleashed

Historically, obtaining a loan involved extensive paperwork, numerous face-to-face meetings, and protracted waiting periods.

However, with the integration of Digital Loan Origination Systems (LOS), this narrative has evolved significantly. These cutting-edge systems seamlessly blend technology, data analytics, and automation to streamline lending processes from end to end.

Empowering borrowers

One of the most noteworthy advantages of Digital Loan Origination is its empowerment of borrowers. It offers a user-friendly interface that allows applicants to initiate loan requests conveniently from the comfort of their homes or mobile devices. The need for physical visits to banks or financial institutions has dwindled, making access to credit more inclusive and efficient.

Enhancing efficiency and accuracy

Digital Loan Origination eliminates the need for manual data entry and minimises the scope for human error. It automates data verification processes, credit checks, and documentation, resulting in faster application approvals. Lenders benefit from streamlined workflows, reducing operational costs while maintaining the integrity of their lending decisions.

Data-driven decision-making

Data is the lifeblood of lending, and Digital Loan Origination leverages this invaluable resource. By analysing vast datasets, these systems provide lenders with comprehensive insights into applicants’ creditworthiness. This data-driven approach enables more informed lending decisions, enhances risk assessment, and ultimately reduces the likelihood of defaults.

Streamlined compliance

In a regulatory landscape that is becoming increasingly complex, compliance is non-negotiable. Digital Loan Origination Systems are designed to adhere to evolving regulatory requirements automatically. This ensures that lenders can navigate a maze of regulations with confidence, avoiding potential pitfalls associated with non-compliance.

Lessons learned from Safer Gambling Week

0

Last month saw the sixth annual Safer Gambling Week.

Safer Gambling Week is an initiative that sees bookmakers and the gambling industry promote and send messages about safer gambling online and throughout the UK’s betting shops.

The intention is that those who may be struggling to gamble responsibly feel supported and know where to turn for help.

This year’s campaign marked the movement’s most significant achievement to date, with an impressive 8 million safer gambling messages shared on social media platforms across 20 European countries.

Gambling responsibly

Those in the online gambling industry are keen to prioritise the safety of players and make sure they gamble responsibly. The campaign has some key points that you can use throughout the year to keep your gambling habits in check.

  1. Decide how long you will play for – Set a timer so you aren’t tempted to play just one more game.

2. Consider how much you are willing to spend – set a budget and stick to it, not only will you lose less you will enjoy the game much more. Many gambling platforms offer a feature allowing users to set a limit on their account, ensuring they do not exceed a specified amount.

3. Set an amount you are willing to lose – gambling is not a guaranteed income. Always ensure you have enough in your account to cover you monthly essentials.

4. Take regular breaks during gameplay – Big wins and big loses are key times to step away, regroup and just take a break. Never make any rash decisions after a monumental game.

More key points to consider

Always make sure gambling is low on your list of priorities, never place gambling ahead of spending time with real people and real situations.  Don’t turn down the opportunity to go out for an evening in alone gambling.

If you start to feel your gambling is out of control or friends and family have started to mention your gambling habits, always remember that help is available and there is always someone to talk to that can help.

Resources like the National Gambling helpline (0808 8020 133) is a free advice line that offers advice and tools to get your gambling under control.  SaferGambling UK is a huge resource for players that might be struggling. Gambling online at reputable site is fun and exciting way to pass the time as long as you make sure you are doing it responsibly.

Galatasaray v Manchester United: Preview, expected line-ups, how to watch and prediction

The state of play

Back in 1993, Manchester United travelled to Istanbul to face Galatasaray in the second leg of a UEFA Champions League tie, being greeted when they touched down with an infamous banner which read: ‘Welcome to Hell’.

On that occasion, a goalless draw saw United eliminated from the competition on away goals, and the Red Devils return to Turkey on Wednesday with their European hopes again hanging by a thread.

United may have won five of their last six games on the domestic front to ease the pressure on boss Erik ten Hag, but three losses in four Champions League outings have put them at the foot of Group A.

Following their remarkable 4-3 defeat at Copenhagen on matchday four, United know they will be unable to advance if they lose in Istanbul. A draw could even be enough to eliminate them, should Copenhagen upset group winners Bayern Munich in Wednesday’s other game.

Galatasaray, meanwhile, will fancy their chances of dealing a fatal blow to United’s Champions League dreams, having managed a stunning 3-2 win at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture on matchday two, when former United winger Wilfried Zaha was among the scorers.

The Turkish giants have only suffered one defeat all season in domestic action, though they enter Wednesday’s match third in Group A, level on points with Copenhagen. With a trip to Denmark coming up on the final matchday, a win here would provide a massive boost to their own last-16 hopes.

Team news

United will be without the suspended Marcus Rashford after he was shown a straight red card against Copenhagen earlier this month, so Alejandro Garnacho should keep his place out wide following his stunning overhead kick against Everton. Rasmus Hojlund scored twice in their last Champions League game, and he and Antony are available after missing Sunday’s 3-0 win at Goodison Park.

Ten Hag has something of an selection crisis to contend with in midfield, though, with Mason Mount, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen all sidelined, so Kobbie Mainoo could keep his place after impressing on his first Premier League start at the weekend.

Galatasaray are likely to be without injured centre-backs Abdulkerim Bardakci and Davinson Sanchez, with the former Tottenham man suffering a hamstring issue in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Alanyaspor. There were concerns over the availability of goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, but he started that game and should continue between the sticks.

Expected line-ups

Galatasaray: Muslera; Boey, Nelsson, Ayhan, Angelino; Torreira, Ndombele; Yilmaz, Mertens, Zaha; Icardi.

Manchester United: Onana; Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; McTominay, Mainoo; Antony, Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund.

What they said

Erik ten Hag on what a win would do for United’s season:

“Of course a win would help, but I don’t think of scenarios, we have to do it. We have to rise to the occasion. But you can see what it would do, like beating Everton, it would give us belief and confidence.”

United captain Bruno Fernandes:

“Obviously, for us it’s really important to be in this competition. We want to be with the best clubs in Europe. It’s disappointing if we don’t go through, but I’m not thinking about that, we’re only thinking about the Galatasaray game.

“The only chance we have to go through is to win against Galatasaray and go into the last match with a chance.”

Galatasaray assistant manager Ismael Garcia Gomez:

“I think it’s going to be a very open game, like it was at Old Trafford. I don’t think either team will say ‘maybe a draw and then see what happens in the last game.’ No. Both teams have a chance to go through, so it should be an exciting game.”

When and how to watch

The game at Rams Park kicks off at 17:45 UK time, and will be available to watch live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.

Prediction

Though United have found ways to grind out victories in the Premier League of late, the absences of Rashford, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez could be keenly felt in what is likely to be a red-hot atmosphere in Turkey.

Though Hojlund – the Champions League’s joint-leading scorer with five goals this season – could continue his fine form in Europe, expect Galatasaray to put United on the brink of a humiliating early exit by claiming a draw, leaving the Red Devils needing to overcome Bayern on matchday six.

‘If they’re good enough, they’re old enough’ – Ten Hag confident Mainoo can handle Galatasaray trip

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has no concerns regarding Kobbie Mainoo’s ability to handle the red-hot atmosphere likely to await the Red Devils when they face Galatasaray on Wednesday.

United travel to Istanbul bottom of their UEFA Champions League group, knowing a defeat will end their chances of reaching the last 16. A draw could also seal their fate, depending on the result of Copenhagen’s trip to Bayern Munich in Group A’s other match on Wednesday.

Ten Hag’s team head to Turkey without injured midfield trio Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount, but their absences allowed Mainoo to play a starring role against Everton on Saturday.

Handed his first Premier League start at Goodison Park, Mainoo earned plaudits for an assured performance in the middle of the park as United claimed a 3-0 win, their fifth victory in their last six league games.

While much has been made of the hostile reception United are likely to receive in Turkey, Ten Hag has no misgivings about the 18-year-old’s ability to handle the occasion.

“No, we don’t have any concerns,” Ten Hag said at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference. “If players are good enough, they are old enough.”

Asked about Mainoo’s performance against the Toffees, Ten Hag added: “I think we are very pleased with that performance, but it’s one performance and you have to do it on a consistent basis.

“Kobbie is so mature, he knows that, and we are confident he will do it.

“But he has to prove he can do it, like we all have prove it. You are only as good as your last game.”

A POST SHARED BY KOBBIE MAINOO (@KOBBIE)

Mainoo has attracted plenty of attention in recent days, with reports suggesting Ghana are looking to persuade him to switch international allegiance from England, who he has represented up to under-19 level.

Ten Hag does not think the midfielder will be affected by the spotlight being on him, saying: “He should enjoy it [the attention] first, but keep focused on the game.

“Don’t get distracted so your focus goes to things away from football. It’s about the games, you have to focus on your performances, reaching the right levels.

“When we see a player getting distracted by it, we will tell him. But I see his levels in training, so I’m not concerned that he will be distracted by it.”

Ten Hag calls for calm as Red Devils prepare to revisit ‘hell’ for Champions League tussle

Erik ten Hag wants cool heads when Manchester United look to keep their UEFA Champions League hopes alive on Wednesday, returning to the scene of their infamous 1993 clash with Galatasaray.

Having squandered 2-0 and 3-2 leads in a chaotic 4-3 defeat to Copenhagen on their last European outing, United sit bottom of Group A with just three points going into matchday five.

They will be out of contention to reach the last 16 if they lose in Istanbul, while a draw will also seal their fate should Copenhagen upset group winners Bayern Munich elsewhere on Wednesday.

United memorably received a hostile reception when they travelled to Turkey for the second leg of a 1993 Champions League tie with Galatasaray, being greeted on their arrival in Istanbul with a banner which read: ‘Welcome to Hell”.

A goalless draw played out in a ferocious atmosphere saw United dumped out of the competition on away goals on that occasion, and Ten Hag is urging calm as his team look to avoid a similar fate.

“We know how to deal with it. You have to stay calm in your head and don’t get too emotional,” Ten Hag said of the atmosphere likely to await United at Rams Park.

“You need the emotions, but you have to control them and not give them [Galatasaray] anything, the referee as well. We know how to deal with it, you have to make it your game.

“It’s not that important how the opponent is playing, it’s about how we are playing, how we deal with possession, out of possession, the normal stuff.

“We will make a good plan but in the moment, the players have to decide it. They have to manage the game.”

Both of United’s away Champions League games this season – against Bayern and Copenhagen – have resulted in 4-3 defeats, but Ten Hag does not believe hostile receptions have impacted his players.

“You can always find something,” the Dutchman said. “Last year we couldn’t win away from home, it was an issue, now we can’t win at home.

“Now we win away games so you bring up that we can’t win away games in Europe! We know what we can do and we are confident.

“The last few games away from home in the league were also very hostile, and we played very well. We were calm and composed, like this team last year in Barcelona [in the UEFA Europa League].”

Arguably the most damaging result of United’s campaign to date came in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, with former Red Devil Wilfried Zaha among the scorers as Galatasaray clinched a dramatic 3-2 victory.

Asked if United have improved since that loss, Ten Hag said: “I think so, yeah. It will probably be the same for Galatasaray but I think we improved.

“We made good progress, we’re stepping up, we’re more stable and we’re winning games. There’s definitely a better feeling than in the moment when we last met Galatasaray.”

United will be without forward Marcus Rashford for Wednesday’s game as he serves a one-match ban after being sent off in Copenhagen, but Ten Hag confirmed Rasmus Hojlund and Antony are both in the squad after missing Saturday’s 3-0 win over Everton with minor injuries.

‘Chaotic Working’ is Employees’ Defining 2023 Work Trend, Finds.

As the year 2023 approaches its end, the workforce has weathered a stormy employment climate. The summer has been abuzz with activity, leading to a coined phenomenon ‘Hot Labor Summer’, while others have grudgingly made their way back to in-office routines, encountering unique obstacles absent in remote setups. This includes the presence of ‘Loud Laborers’ who engage more in talk than action. This period has spawned a set of new phrases encapsulating the unique work trends of the year, such as ‘Rage Applying’, ‘Chaotic Working’, and ‘Bare Minimum Mondays’, as determined by a USDictionary.com survey of 1,000 workers.

Chaotic Working:

This term has resonated with workers in 2023, symbolizing a relentless cycle of task management akin to an intense round of corporate whack-a-mole. Task completion leads to the emergence of new ones, while meetings disrupt breaks and last-minute urgencies arise, likening daily schedules to an overwhelming game of Tetris. ‘Chaotic Working’ has taken on additional meaning this year, indicating a disordered work atmosphere where employees might bend rules to serve clients or customers, often at the company’s expense, without fear of consequences.

Shift Shock:

Securing the second spot, ‘Shift Shock’ encapsulates the disillusionment from the initial excitement of a new job to the stark reality of unexpected responsibilities, such as becoming the unofficial office barista. Shaun Connell of USDictionary.com compares it to an alluring online profile that doesn’t match up to the real-life encounter with the job.

Bare Minimum Mondays:

In third place, ‘Bare Minimum Mondays’ humorously acknowledges the universal sluggish start to the workweek. It’s an unspoken consensus to perform just enough to maintain operations, with brief email responses and minimalist reporting. Meetings are navigated with minimal engagement, epitomizing the low-energy yet cooperative start to the week.

Career Cushioning:

This trend involves the strategic accumulation of skills, contacts, and side projects as a safety net against job uncertainty or when seeking new opportunities. It’s a day of subtle career advancement activities, including updating professional profiles and discreet mentorship meetings.

Boomerang Employee:

Ranked fifth, the ‘Boomerang Employee’ refers to individuals returning to previous employers after exploring the job market, often with newfound experience and sometimes improved compensation.

Quiet Cutting:

Finally, ‘Quiet Cutting’ is a term emerging in sixth place, described by Connell as a corporate reassignment that occurs instead of losing one’s position, reflecting a shift from the bargaining power employees held during the Great Resignation to a market with diminishing job openings and wage growth.

The study was carried out via a survey of American employees, of which you can read more in this MSN article. How would workers across the pond rate their 2023 office experience? Write to us and share your thoughts through our contact form!
