The importance of time management for busy entrepreneurs

0

In today’s fast-paced business world, the concept of time management has evolved into a critical element of success, particularly for entrepreneurs who constantly juggle multiple responsibilities.

Understanding and embracing the importance of time management can be the defining factor in the journey of an entrepreneur.

This article delves into the various facets of time management and its pivotal role for busy entrepreneurs, offering insights and strategies for effectively managing time to achieve business success and personal well-being.

Understanding time management in entrepreneurship

Time management for entrepreneurs isn’t just about scheduling or task management; it’s a holistic approach that encompasses prioritising tasks, setting goals, and understanding the value of time.

Every minute counts for entrepreneurs, and how they spend their time can significantly impact their business’s success. Effective time management leads to improved productivity, reduced stress, and a better work-life balance.

The role of time management in achieving business goals

Setting and achieving business goals is at the heart of entrepreneurship. Time management plays a crucial role in this process.

By effectively managing their time, entrepreneurs can focus on strategic planning and goal setting, ensuring that they are working towards their long-term vision.

Prioritising tasks based on their importance and urgency is essential for staying on track and achieving business milestones.

Strategies for effective time management

  • Prioritisation is key: Understanding what tasks are essential and what can be delegated or postponed is vital. Entrepreneurs must learn to differentiate between urgent and important tasks and allocate their time accordingly.
  • Setting realistic goals: Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). This approach helps in creating a roadmap for success and allows for better time allocation for each task.
  • Leveraging technology: In the digital age, numerous tools and apps are available to help with time management. From calendar apps to task management software, entrepreneurs can leverage technology to stay organised and on track.
  • Understanding personal productivity cycles: Everyone has times when they are more productive. Entrepreneurs should identify these periods and schedule their most challenging tasks during these high-energy windows.
  • Avoiding procrastination: Procrastination is a common challenge. Setting deadlines and breaking tasks into smaller, manageable parts can help in overcoming this hurdle.

The impact of poor time management

Poor time management can lead to a host of problems for entrepreneurs. It can result in missed opportunities, stress, burnout, and a negative impact on personal life and health. Understanding the consequences of poor time management is crucial for entrepreneurs to appreciate its importance fully.

Balancing professional and personal life

One of the biggest challenges for entrepreneurs is finding the balance between their professional and personal lives. Effective time management is not just about being efficient at work; it’s also about allocating time for rest, relaxation, and personal relationships. This balance is essential for maintaining overall well-being and long-term success.

Time management as a continuous learning process

Time management is not a one-time skill to be mastered; it’s a continuous learning process. Entrepreneurs need to regularly assess their time management strategies and adapt them to suit their evolving business needs and personal life changes.

Challenges and common pitfalls

While understanding the significance of time management is crucial, entrepreneurs often face challenges and common pitfalls in implementing effective time management strategies. Let’s explore some of these challenges and how to overcome them:

  • Overcommitment: Entrepreneurs are often passionate about their projects and may tend to overcommit by taking on too many tasks or projects simultaneously. This can lead to burnout and reduced effectiveness.
  • Lack of planning: Failing to plan is planning to fail. Many entrepreneurs jump into tasks without a clear plan, leading to wasted time and effort. Creating a daily or weekly schedule can help. Additionally, check out how wealth management firms like these help busy entrepreneurs make the most of their time.
  • Interruptions and distractions: In today’s digital age, constant notifications and interruptions can derail productivity. Entrepreneurs should set boundaries and allocate focused time for tasks without distractions.
  • Failure to adapt: Sometimes, entrepreneurs stick to rigid schedules even when circumstances change. Being adaptable and adjusting priorities when needed is essential for effective time management.
  • Micromanagement: Some entrepreneurs tend to micromanage every aspect of their business, which can be time-consuming and counterproductive. Delegating tasks and trusting team members are essential for time management.

The time-productivity connection

Productivity is a direct result of effective time management. When entrepreneurs manage their time efficiently, they can accomplish more in less time. This increased productivity can lead to higher profitability, growth, and overall success for their businesses.

Final thoughts

In the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship, time is a valuable resource that cannot be regained once lost. Understanding the importance of time management and implementing effective strategies is not just a choice but a necessity for entrepreneurs. It is the key to achieving business goals, reducing stress, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

By continually honing their time management skills and learning from challenges, entrepreneurs can navigate the entrepreneurial journey with confidence and success. Remember, time is the most precious asset, and how we use it defines our entrepreneurial legacy.

Planning and budgeting

The cornerstone of a cost-effective move lies in meticulous planning and disciplined budgeting.

Begin by creating a comprehensive moving checklist and a detailed budget. Account for all foreseeable expenses, such as packing supplies, moving services, travel costs, and an emergency fund for unforeseen circumstances.

When it comes to choosing a moving company, don’t settle for the first option you find. Comparison shopping for movers can reveal a wide range of prices. This is where SlothMove comes to your rescue.

As an innovative moving assistance platform, SlothMove simplifies the process by offering comparisons and presenting budget-friendly options. Their expertise ensures that you find the best fit for your budget without compromising on quality.

Declutter and sell unwanted items

Before you embark on the packing journey, take a moment to declutter your home. It’s incredible how much you can save by selling items you no longer need. This not only reduces the volume of possessions you need to transport but also injects extra cash into your moving budget.

Platforms like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or hosting local garage sales can be your best friends during this decluttering process. And guess what? SlothMove offers valuable tips and resources to help you declutter effectively and make those sales, making the entire process smoother and more lucrative.

DIY packing and affordable supplies

Packing isn’t just about keeping your belongings safe; it’s also a fantastic opportunity to cut costs. By investing time and effort in do-it-yourself (DIY) packing, you can protect your possessions without breaking the bank. The secret here is to source affordable yet reliable packing materials.

Start by seeking out free moving boxes from local grocery stores, bookshops, or online marketplaces. These establishments often have sturdy boxes that are perfect for your move and are willing to part with them for free.

Additionally, you can repurpose household items like towels, blankets, and clothing to wrap and protect fragile items, reducing the need for expensive bubble wrap and packing peanuts.

Timing your move

The timing of your move can significantly impact its cost. Moving companies tend to be busiest during weekends, month-ends, and peak summer months, leading to higher prices. But there’s a silver lining! By scheduling your move during off-peak times, such as mid-week days or in the middle of the month, you can enjoy more favourable rates.

Additionally, consider planning your move during the fall or winter seasons when demand is lower, further reducing costs. SlothMove’s platform provides you with valuable information about the most cost-effective times to move, potentially saving you hundreds.

Utility and address changes

Often overlooked, utility transfers and address changes are essential aspects of moving that can lead to unexpected expenses if neglected. To ensure a seamless transition to your new home, transfer utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet services promptly.

This not only guarantees that your new residence is ready for occupancy but also prevents unnecessary charges at your old address after you’ve moved out.

Leverage moving company discounts and deals

One of the smartest ways to cut moving costs is by capitalising on discounts and special deals offered by moving companies. Many reputable movers provide lower rates during specific seasons or extend discounts to particular groups, such as students or military personnel.

Utilise cost-effective moving insurance

The safety of your belongings during a move is paramount. While moving insurance may seem like an additional expense, it can ultimately save you money in the unfortunate event of damage or loss. When considering insurance, begin by checking if your homeowner’s policy covers moving.

If not, SlothMove provides a wealth of information and resources on various moving insurance options, helping you find the most cost-effective solution that offers adequate protection without breaking the bank.

Conclusion

Moving doesn’t have to be synonymous with financial strain. You can significantly reduce moving costs with meticulous planning, clever strategies, and the invaluable assistance of resources like SlothMove. Implement these expert tips, and you’ll experience a smooth move and keep your wallet happy. Say goodbye to budgetary stress and hello to a cost-effective and hassle-free move with SlothMove by your side.

Harry Maguire nominated for Premier League Player of the Month award

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is among the nominees to be named Premier League Player of the Month for November, with Erik ten Hag in the running for the managers’ prize.

Maguire has enjoyed something of a resurgence in recent weeks, regaining his place in United’s starting lineup after appearing to be surplus to requirements before the season began.

With Lisandro Martinez injured and Raphael Varane out of favour, Maguire has started the Red Devils’ last 10 games in all competitions since being restored to their lineup for October’s dramatic 2-1 win over Brentford.

United won all three of their league games during the month of November, with Maguire impressing as they kept clean sheets in victories over Fulham, Luton Town and Everton to revive their hopes of a top-four finish.

Maguire is one of six players nominated for the award, also including Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling and Bournemouth winger Marcus Tavernier.

Manchester City wideman Jeremy Doku is also in the running after scoring one goal and adding four assists in three league appearances during November, also completing 21 dribbles during the month, 10 more than any other player in the competition.

Meanwhile, four bosses are up for the Manager of the Month prize, with Ten Hag among them after overseeing United’s steady rise up the table.

Luton’s Rob Edwards, Newcastle’s Eddie Howe and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, who ended a winless start to his time with the Cherries by posting two victories in November, are the Dutchman’s competitors.

Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou became the first manager to win the award in each of his first three months in the competition after overseeing Spurs’ 10-game unbeaten start to 2023-24, but his streak will end there with his team losing all three of their Premier League games this month.

Four reasons that explain the success of ecommerce companies in Manchester

Ecommerce companies in Manchester are making waves, achieving remarkable success and outpacing competitors.

The reasons behind their extraordinary growth are diverse, extending beyond mere coincidence or luck.

Factors such as the judicious use of top-tier ecommerce software, the burgeoning presence of innovative start-ups, access to a great customer base, and the availability of an exceptional talent pool all contribute to their exceptional success. Let’s delve into these key contributors.

Making use of the best ecommerce software

The first reason that explains the success of ecommerce companies in Manchester has to do with a certain realisation they had, namely making use of the best ecommerce software. At the dawn of ecommerce most online stores didn’t realise what a difference the right ecommerce hosting or software could make, halting their success.

However, this was not the case in Manchester, causing local ecommerce businesses to become a shining example for similar companies in the rest of the United Kingdom.

The presence of innovative start-ups

Manchester’s success in the ecommerce sector isn’t solely due to the adoption of high-performing software. It’s also nurtured by a thriving ecosystem of innovative startups. The city has become a melting pot for creative, technology-driven enterprises, which contribute fresh ideas, revolutionary technologies, and disruptive business models to the mix.

This entrepreneurial culture breeds competition and fosters innovation — driving Manchester’s ecommerce companies to continually evolve, stay ahead of the curve, and meet the ever-changing needs and expectations of consumers. With these startups redefining the ecommerce landscape, Manchester’s online businesses continue to thrive.

Access to a large customer base

Manchester’s strategic geographical location affords ecommerce companies access to a vast and diverse customer base. With a population of over half a million within the city and millions more in the broader Greater Manchester region, the potential for customer reach is immense.

Furthermore, Manchester’s status as a cultural, academic, and economic hub attracts a significant number of visitors annually. This influx of people from around the globe further enlarges the city’s customer base, providing an invaluable opportunity for local ecommerce companies to expand and flourish. Market penetration becomes more feasible and profitable, driving these companies’ impressive growth and success rates.

A great talent pool

Manchester’s ecommerce success also owes much to its robust talent pool. The city is home to numerous top-tier universities producing a steady stream of skilled graduates each year who bring fresh ideas and up-to-date knowledge to the industry. These institutions lure talent from all over the country and beyond.

This wealth of expertise across various fields, including technology, marketing, business management, and data analysis, bolsters the proficiency of Manchester’s ecommerce companies. The diversity, creativity, and skills that this talent pool offers play a pivotal role in propelling the city’s ecommerce businesses to new heights.

  4. Incorporate technology, such as simulation training or telematics, to enhance the learning experience.
  5. Regularly assess and monitor the progress of your drivers to ensure ongoing improvement.

Remember, driver training should be an ongoing process to ensure the safety and efficiency of your fleet. Consider offering refresher courses, incentivising safe driving, and promoting a culture of safety within your organisation.

Regular vehicle maintenance

Regular vehicle maintenance is crucial for ensuring the safety of your fleet on the road. Here are some steps to follow:

  1. Perform regular oil changes to keep the engine running smoothly.
  2. Check tire pressure regularly to maintain proper traction and prevent blowouts.

  10. Evaluate the effectiveness of the safety policy and make adjustments as needed.

Utilising advanced safety technologies

Advanced safety technologies are essential for maintaining the safety of your fleet on the road. By incorporating features such as lane departure warning systems, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking, the risk of accidents can be significantly reduced.

These technologies utilize sensors and cameras to identify potential hazards and provide real-time warnings or intervene to prevent collisions. By utilising these advanced safety technologies, fleet operators can ensure the protection of their drivers, vehicles, and cargo, ultimately enhancing overall road safety.

JBD LLC, a medium-sized trucking company located in Georgia and with clients scattered all over the country, has been in the trucking industry for over 15 years. Being a traditional trucking company, they followed paper logs until FMCSA introduced the ELD mandate. Sam Jubidu, the fleet manager for JBD LLC, realised that he had to act fast and change the business process with an adept solution.

That’s when he implemented Matrack’s advanced gps fleet technology in their vehicles and saw a remarkable decrease in accidents. Their drivers reported feeling more confident and secure on the road, leading to increased productivity and customer satisfaction. This success story highlights the tangible benefits of utilizing advanced safety technologies in fleet management.

Monitoring driver behaviour

Monitoring driver behaviour is crucial for ensuring the safety of your fleet on the road. By implementing these steps, you can proactively address risky driving habits and promote a safer driving culture:

  • Install telematics devices to track and analyse driver behaviour data.
  • Set clear expectations and communicate safe driving policies.
  • Implement regular driver training programs to educate on safe driving practices.
  • Use driver scorecards to provide feedback and incentivise safe driving habits.
  • Implement a rewards program to acknowledge and recognise safe driving

One fleet successfully implemented driver behaviour monitoring and training programs, resulting in a significant decrease in speeding incidents and a notable improvement in overall driver safety. This has led to reduced accidents and lower insurance costs.

Having a well-defined emergency response plan is crucial for ensuring the safety of your fleet on the road. Here are some steps to include in your plan:

  1. Identify potential emergencies and their specific risks.
  2. Establish clear communication channels and emergency contact information.
  3. Train drivers on emergency procedures and protocols.
  4. Create a system for regular vehicle maintenance and inspections.
  5. Develop a comprehensive incident reporting and investigation process.
  6. Regularly review and update the emergency response plan to account for any changes.

Fact: According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, 71% of large truck crashes occur during the day, while 29% occur at night.

  • Driver qualifications: Ensure that all drivers meet the required qualifications and have the necessary licenses and certifications.
  • Vehicle maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain your fleet to ensure that all vehicles are in proper working condition.
  • Hours of service: Monitor and enforce compliance with regulations regarding driver hours of service to prevent fatigue-related accidents.
  • Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and driver logs to demonstrate compliance with regulations.

True story: One company failed to comply with regulations, resulting in a serious accident that could have been prevented by properly maintaining their vehicles and ensuring driver compliance. Let this serve as a reminder of the importance of regulatory compliance for the safety of your fleet.

Promoting a safety culture

  3. Establish clear policies: Develop and communicate clear policies regarding safety expectations.
  4. Encourage reporting: Create a culture where drivers feel comfortable reporting safety concerns or near-miss incidents.
  5. Reward safe behaviour: Recognize and reward drivers who consistently demonstrate safe driving habits.
  6. Regularly communicate: Keep an open line of communication with your drivers to address any safety concerns or issues.
  7. Maintain and inspect vehicles: Regularly inspect and maintain your fleet to ensure vehicles are in safe operating condition.
  8. Analyse and learn: Continuously analyse safety data and learn from any incidents to make improvements.

Data analysis and continuous improvement

To guarantee the safety of your fleet while on the road, it is crucial to utilise data analysis and strive for continuous improvement. By carefully examining data such as driver behaviour, vehicle maintenance records, and accident reports, you can pinpoint areas that need improvement.

Taking steps such as implementing driver training programs and adhering to regular maintenance schedules can help reduce risks. Furthermore, regularly monitoring key performance indicators and conducting safety audits can assist in tracking progress and identifying additional areas for improvement.

By consistently checking data and making necessary changes, you can significantly enhance the safety of your fleet and decrease the chances of accidents.

Insurance considerations

When it comes to ensuring the safety of your fleet on the road, insurance considerations are crucial. Here are some key factors to keep in mind:

  • Adequate Coverage: Choose insurance policies that provide comprehensive coverage for your vehicles, drivers, and cargo.
  • Liability Protection: Make sure your policy includes liability coverage to protect your company from potential lawsuits.
  • Additional Coverage Options: Consider additional coverage options such as collision, comprehensive, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Regular Evaluations: Regularly review and update your insurance policies to ensure they meet your evolving needs.

To protect your fleet and decrease financial risks, it is important to work with a reputable insurance provider and seek professional advice tailored to your specific business.

The damning stats that show Onana and Manchester United must do better

Manchester United’s 3-3 draw at Galatasaray last night again exposed the frailties of their defence, and in particular goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The Cameroon international was arguably at fault for all three of Galatasaray’s goals as United squandered 2-0 and 3-1 leads in settling for a point in Istanbul.

The draw means Erik ten Hag’s men go into matchday six with their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

They must win at home to Bayern Munich and hope Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw in order to finish second, though a victory will at least guarantee them a third-place finish and Europa League football.

It’s not a scenario Ten Hag would have envisioned after another summer of heavy spending at Old Trafford that included the £47.2million acquisition of Onana from Inter.

According to Opta, the 27-year-old has made more than twice as many errors by a goalkeeper leading to goals in the Champions League since 2018-19.

Although not all those errors were made for United it demonstrates his frailties, and does little to help a defence that has also had its struggles this season.

No English team has shipped as many as 14 at this stage of a Champions League campaign. Bar the clean sheet at home to FC Copenhagen, United have conceded at least three in every Group A fixture.

Their record in the Premier League is better with 16 goals conceded in 13 games but their European woes paint a grim picture overall. It all adds up to their worst defensive record across the first 20 games of a season in all competitions for 61 years.

UEFA Champions League permutations: Who needs what to qualify for the last 16?

We had controversial penalties, six-goal thrillers and stunning comebacks as the UEFA Champions League returned for matchday five, with a thrilling set of fixtures teeing up what is sure to be an absorbing group-stage finale in December.

Twelve of the last-16 spots have already been decided ahead of the final set of group games – scheduled for December 12 and December 13 – but there is still plenty to play for overall.

The hopes of English duo Manchester United and Newcastle United are hanging by a thread, and there is something on the line in all but one of the groups.

Here, we run through all the permutations as the continent’s elite prepare to jockey for position on matchday six.

Group A (Qualified: Bayern Munich)

Bayern Munich have qualified as group winners, taking 13 points from their first five games, but it’s all to play for behind them.

Manchester United enter matchday six bottom of the group after their 3-3 draw with Galatasaray. They must win at home to Bayern and hope Copenhagen and Galatasaray draw in order to finish second, though a victory will at least guarantee them a third-place finish and UEFA Europa League football.

Copenhagen lead Galatasaray on goal difference, so a home draw will send them through, with the Turkish giants needing to win to advance.

Group B (Qualified: Arsenal, PSV)

Arsenal qualified as group winners by routing Lens 6-0 last time out, and that result also guaranteed PSV second place, so there is nothing to play for when the top two meet on December 12.

Lens host Sevilla in the group’s other game, knowing a draw will see them drop into the Europa League. The Spanish outfit must win to reach a competition they have won a record seven times.

GROUP C (Qualified: Real Madrid)

Top spot is also decided here, with Real Madrid boasting a perfect record after five games.

Napoli are close to confirming second place; they must avoid losing by two or more goals against Braga on December 12 to qualify for the last 16. The Portuguese side can only advance with a handsome victory in Italy.

Bottom team Union Berlin, meanwhile, need to win at home to Madrid and hope Napoli beat Braga in order to take the consolation prize of a Europa League place.

Group D (Qualified: Real Sociedad, Inter)

Real Sociedad and Inter have both qualified for the round of 16, and top spot will be decided when they face off on December 12. The Nerazzurri must win to overtake La Real, who boast a better goal difference.

Salzburg and Benfica – who squandered a 3-0 lead to draw with Inter last time out – will face off for a Europa League place, with the Lisbon giants needing to win by two or more goals to finish third.

Group E (Qualified: Atletico Madrid, Lazio)

Atletico Madrid and Lazio have both qualified for the knockouts, with Diego Simeone’s side holding a one-point lead over the Biancocelesti and only needing a draw to top the group when they face each other on December 13.

Feyenoord are guaranteed to drop into the Europa League, while winless Celtic will finish bottom regardless of their matchday six result.

Group F (Qualified: Borussia Dortmund)

This is where things get interesting. Borussia Dortmund have qualified and will top the group if they avoid defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain on December 13.

Behind BVB, it’s all to play for. PSG enter matchday six second with seven points, but they must win in Germany to be certain of a top-two finish. A victory will also see them top the group.

Newcastle United and Milan face off at St James’ Park, currently locked level on five points. The Magpies must win and hope PSG fail to do so to advance, while the Rossoneri must win and hope PSG lose.

If PSG advance to the last 16, the winner of Newcastle’s meeting with Milan – or the Magpies if it finishes level – will claim the Europa League place. Understood?

Group G (Qualified: Manchester City, RB Leipzig)

This is the only group where everything is decided. Reigning champions Manchester City have guaranteed top spot, with RB Leipzig going through as runners-up. Young Boys will play Europa League football after Christmas, and Red Star Belgrade are out entirely.

Group H (Qualified: Barcelona)

Leaders Barcelona have qualified for the last 16 and will win the group unless a remarkable sequence of events transpires on December 13. Barca would have to lose to pointless Antwerp, with Shakhtar Donetsk beating Porto and making up a seven-goal swing over the Blaugrana, to deny them top spot.

Porto and Shakhtar meet in Portugal in a winner-take-all clash as they battle for second place. Porto hold the head-to-head advantage, so a draw will be enough to send them through.

Could Manchester United’s clash with Galatasaray be postponed?

Heavy rain in Istanbul is threatening tonight’s Champions League game between Galatasaray and Manchester United.

Persistent wet weather in the Turkish city has prompted concern that the match may be called off.

Videos of the pitch at the Rams Stadium show puddles of water and the ball not bouncing or rolling properly.

As it stands, the game is on although the weather has shown little sign of abating.

A UEFA statement given to the Athletic read: “We are closely monitoring the weather forecast and at this stage the match will go ahead as scheduled.”

It is unclear at this stage when the game would be replayed should it be called off. UEFA rules indicate tomorrow is the preferred option but that would have implications for United’s trip to Newcastle which is scheduled for Saturday night.

Stockport man jailed for vile attack on woman

0

A 26-year-old man from South Reddish has been jailed for 22 months following an investigation by Stockport Domestic Abuse Team.

He pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage against a woman at Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday. She filed for a 10-year restraining order, which was granted.

The court heard how Coupe would persistently call the victim up to 30 times a day and would also contact her friends and family if she did not answer.

He also unplugged security cameras from her address when he found that she wouldn’t come home if she could see he was waiting for her.

Vile attack

On August 12, 2023, Coupe harassed the victim in the street and later that evening he attacked her at an address – punching and hitting her, causing serious injuries that required hospital treatment.

He then forced the victim into a bath and burned her clothes in the garden, before attempting to clean up, hiding evidence of the incident.

The victim managed to escape when her friend came to the address and took her to hospital.

The matter was reported to police and Coupe was arrested and subsequently charged with the offences before appearing at court.

Courage

PC Elizabeth Andrews of GMP Domestic Abuse Team said: “Firstly, I want to thank the victim for the courage she has shown in coming forward and supporting a prosecution which has resulted in a substantial sentence being handed down to the offender. Her bravery and strength is nothing short of inspiring.

“I welcome the sentence today which reflects the severity of the violent and psychological abuse that Coupe inflicted on the victim. His behaviour was abhorrent and this was an absolutely vile attack.

“He harassed the victim and made her feel unsafe over a period of months, culminating in an attack that left her in fear for her life and in need of urgent medical treatment.

“Coupe’s crimes are utterly deplorable, and his lack of remorse further presents him as a dangerous man who fully deserves the sentence imposed on in him.

“I hope it sends a message that GMP is determined to arrest and prosecute domestic abuse offenders and I hope it encourages other victims to put their trust in police to investigate. I can assure you that you will be listened to and your account will be taken seriously.”

Electrifying the Market: Unveiling the Business Potential of Electric Vans

0

The digital age, fuelled by the recent pandemic, is moving more and more of our shopping online. Between 2020 and 2022, almost 10,000 retail outlets disappeared from the high streets as footfall plummeted.

As e-commerce becomes the norm, courier companies must keep up with the demand of deliveries from online orders. However, there are other priorities to balance such as spending and being socially and environmentally responsible.

Electric vans could be a best of both worlds solution for delivery companies, but there are cons to consider as well as the advantages. Use this guide to decide if electric vans are a worthwhile business investment for you.

Sustainability

As part of the government’s goal to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, 70% new vans sold in the UK will be electric by 2030 according to the latest policy. This means that all companies will have to prioritise electric vehicles at some point within the next decade.

Although they are not necessarily sustainable to manufacture, electric vehicles are much more eco-friendly than petrol and diesel cars. This is because they produce significantly reduced emissions over their lifetime.

Sustainability is increasingly important to consumers and suppliers as well. Switching to electric vehicles ahead of the competition is likely to improve your brand image and increase customer loyalty. These are important knock-on benefits that could help you to stay in business for longer.

Cost

There is no getting around the fact that electric vans have a higher price tag than fuel-powered vans. This means that you’ll need a healthy cash flow in order to make this investment with peace of mind.

However, electric vans are also guaranteed to save you money in the long-run. When most of the charging is done at a private point, the cost of charging the battery is cheaper than buying petrol or diesel. Bear in mind that charging at public charging points is often less cost-effective.

If you are unsure of committing to electric vans without trialling them first, you can look at the solution of short-term hire. This gives you and the team a chance to test run the technology prior to purchase. Don’t forget to organise temporary van insurance for the duration of your hire to keep yourself and the company covered.

Logistics

Finally, you should consider the logistics of operating electric vans rather than a fuel-powered fleet. There are certain challenges with EVs that are likely to dictate whether or not you make the switch.

The first is that, while petrol stations are plentiful, there are a limited number of charging points up and down the country. This means that it could be hard to plot an effective and efficient route for delivery drivers covering long distances.

On top of this, charging can take 2-12 hours depending on the size of the battery in your EV and the output you’re connecting to. The battery lasts a maximum of 200 miles without charging, and significantly less in larger vehicles and colder weather.

While these challenges are unlikely to be a problem for smaller local delivery services, they could be a logistical nightmare for larger courier companies operating UK-wide.

So, there you have it. While there are tremendous advantages to using electric vehicles, they may not be a viable option for your delivery business yet.
