Hill’s Panel Products staff put best feet forward for cancer charity

Staff at Hill’s Panel Products (HPP) have been getting active to raise cash and awareness for an Oldham cancer care centre.

This World Cancer Day, they decided to walk, run or cycle in a 5km challenge in aid of Maggie’s Oldham.

HPP colleagues, joined by their family and friends, took part in the event at Alexandra Park in Oldham, while other staff opted to exercise closer to home.

For every kilometre completed by a member of staff, HPP – which makes and supplies board, doors, fittings and accessories for the fitted furniture industry – pledged to donate £1 to Maggie’s Oldham, which supports cancer sufferers and their loves ones.

Efforts culminated in a cheque presentation for £350.

HPP assistant marketing manager Kenika Gumbs said: “It was a great day seeing others taking part for a good cause and also sharing our stories. I asked a few of the ladies why they decided to participate, and it was all for the same reason; they had lost someone very dear to their hearts from cancer.

“This event was important to me because I lost my great grandfather from pancreatic cancer. My best friend and other people I’ve known have died from cancer as well. I’m always donating but I have never done any activities, so I wanted to push myself more to get involved in this sort of awareness activity.”

Kenika has now signed up for the World Cancer Day Call to Action campaigning for governments around the world to promote health equity, enhance cancer service accessibility, reduce disparities in cancer incidence and mortality, and close the care gap.

She has also encouraged workers at HPP’s Scottfield Road HQ to wear one of the many different coloured ribbons that each represent a type of cancer that had impacted on their lives.

Strategic Planning Unveiled: Key Considerations for a Successful Overseas Business Voyage

0

Any type of business travel involves meticulous planning, but there are additional considerations to make if you’re going abroad for your meeting. From travel documentation to health preparations, as a business professional you’ll need to consider various factors to make sure you have a smooth trip.

If this is your first time travelling overseas for work, here are some top tips to make sure everything’s in order.

Travel documentation and visa requirements

You’ll need to make sure all your documentation is ready. Some of the essentials include:

  • Valid passport: It’s essential that you check your passport’s expiration date and ensure it’s valid for the entire duration of your trip. Overlooking this detail could lead to potential disruptions and complications. It’s best that you double check this as soon as you know you’ll be travelling so that you have time to renew it if necessary.
  • Visa requirements: Do you need a visa to enter the country you’re heading to? Visa rules vary from country to country, so you’ll need to check ahead and apply for any visas well in advance. Delaying visa applications can potentially delay your trip, causing unnecessary stress and affecting business engagements.
  • Travel details: You’ll need to make sure you have your flight information and travel documents to hand.

Getting to the airport

Airport logistics can be tricky to navigate, but proper planning can help make things easier. One of the main things to consider is how you’ll get to there for your flight.

If you’re driving there, consider the parking options available at Manchester Airport, including short-term, long-term, and valet services. Advance booking of airport parking not only ensures preferred spaces but could also result in cost savings. Plus, a reserved parking spot provides peace of mind and allows you to focus on the objective of your trip, rather than navigating crowded car parks.

Currency and financial planning

Before your trip, familiarise yourself with the local currency and ensure you have a small amount in cash for immediate expenses upon arrival. Let your banks know about the upcoming travel dates too. This will avoid disruptions to credit or debit card usage. The advice on how to do this depends on who you bank with, so take the time to check ahead.

A seamless financial experience contributes to a stress-free business trip.

Health and vaccination preparations

Looking after your health and wellbeing while you’re abroad is essential. Comprehensive health insurance that covers potential medical expenses abroad is there to offer peace of mind.

Depending on where your business meeting is, you might also need vaccinations.  Visit a travel health clinic to assess necessary vaccinations and health precautions based on the destination. Different countries may have specific health risks, and staying informed ensures that you can protect yourself and others during your trip.

When are you travelling for work? Do you have everything in place? If so, all you need to do now is pack!

Manchester United: Ten Hag won’t underestimate struggling Luton

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United are “not in a position to underestimate any opponent” ahead of Sunday’s trip to struggling Luton.

The Hatters’ upward trajectory stalled last weekend when they were beaten 3-1 at home by rock-bottom Sheffield United while United appear to have steadied the ship in recent weeks, winning five of six in all competitions.

Ten Hag warm to the idea of United appointing a sporting director

Much is made of Luton’s tight Kenilworth Road ground but Ten Hag does not believe that is a factor when the whistle blows.

He said: “The pitch is smaller? Or longer? Is it 11 versus 11? Are no referees coming?

“Every ambience is different and we have to deal with the circumstances but it’s about playing football, 11 versus 11, with a referee.

“It doesn’t matter who you face, the best, the worst, or in-between, I respect every opponent.

“We are not in a position to underestimate any opponent. We have to play our best because we have seen their performances across the season – they are very good, they are really improving.

“I have a lot of respect for this team, we have to play our best football.”

United may be without England left-back Luke Shaw this weekend following his half-time withdrawal at Aston Villa last Sunday.

Ten Hag added: “He’s a doubt but we are positive he can make it. It was the right decision [to take him off] when you win the game.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka will take some weeks because he picked up another injury in training last week.

“Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia need some more weeks.

“Malacia had setbacks during his rehab process. It takes too long, it’s bad for him and bad for us. We have turned a point and he will return to the pitch, it won’t be long until he is in team training.”

Manchester United: Ten Hag warm to the idea of sporting director at Old Trafford

Erik ten Hag hinted he would relish the appointment of a sporting director at Manchester United as one man “cannot do things alone” such is the workload at Old Trafford.

United have reportedly approached Newcastle United for permission to speak to Dan Ashworth, who holds a similar position at St James’ Park, with the 52-year-old thought to be keen on joining the new-look football operation under Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford.

Ratcliffe has ‘vision’ for United, says Maguire

Ten Hag appears to have steadied the ship at United on the field with five wins in six games in all competitions but the Dutchman accepts he cannot control every facet of the playing side.

He said: “I am happy now with the current structure and when things change they will tell me. [But] at a club like Manchester United, you can’t do things alone, it’s impossible. You need people around you.”

Asked how he would potentially work alongside a sporting director, he said: “It’s very important you are on one page about football philosophies, strategies and what you need in a team.

“It’s important to have good communication to get the right players because the most important factor to developing a good team is to have good players with good characters.

“You have to do a lot of work, it’s a long process.

“I’ve worked in situations where I was alone in charge and sometimes I have had co-operation. I have dealt with several situations but it’s so specific, especially at the top, and so intense with the number of games. You need people around you who are on the same page, working on the same targets to achieve the highest ambitions.

“I don’t know anything about the changes, I have spoken to the new sporting organisation but it’s not up to me.”

With United performing well on the pitch, and Ratcliffe’s bid to purchase 25 per cent of the club approaching completion having received Premier League and Football Association approval this week, there is a positive mood at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag added: “Everything is aligned. We are a club, not an isolated department in the first team.

“You see and you feel the ambition. It brings a spirit that belongs to this club. The players and the staff are aligned with the ambitions of INEOS – that’s why we are here, we want to win.”

Pep Guardiola: Manchester City manager ‘sent me voice notes before and after games’, says Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard says Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has sent him inspirational voice notes admiring his ambition to emulate his teams.

Former England international Lampard has revealed how Guardiola left him recordings on WhatsApp during his managerial roles and while he has been out of work, including a series of messages after he lost the 2019 Super Cup to Liverpool on penalties a month after first taking charge at Stamford Bridge.

“I remember we lost 4-0 to Manchester United,” Lampard told City’s official website, recalling his first match as a Premier League manager in August 2019.

“We played pretty well but got counter-attacked a couple of times and then in the Super Club we played well but lost to Liverpool on penalties.

“I was down but then when someone of his ilk sends you a voice note to say he enjoyed the way we’d played. It gave me a really good feeling.”

Lampard won the Premier League manager of the month award that October and reached the FA Cup final the following season but is yet to lift a trophy as a manager, leaving Stamford Bridge in 2021 and suffering the sack at Everton after less than a year in charge from January 2022.

The Chelsea legend won one of his 11 matches during a brief second spell as Blues manager at the end of last season and has not returned to work since, but has fond memories of his dealings with the man whose teams have dominated English football since he moved to Etihad Stadium in 2016.

“In the management world, where you can expect a coach to maybe be aloof or just worried about themselves, he’s made contact with me at various points,” said Lampard.

“At Chelsea and Everton and when I’ve not been working, he’s sent me messages: voice notes saying ‘well done’ after wins and ‘good luck’ before certain games.

“He’s clearly one of the hardest managers to come up against because of the way he sets up the team.

“He gives you so many problems. They are so hard to deal with because of the level of players he has but also the way he sets up.”

Lampard ‘wanted to play like Guardiola teams’

“When you’re a young coach like I was at Chelsea, you know you’re coming up against one of the very best coaches and you’re wary of what he can do to you,” said former City midfielder Lampard.

“He has experience and his experience is written down in history because he’s won so much.

“But it’s not all about that – sometimes it’s the style, and I wanted to play in a positive way like him. He acknowledged that and it certainly helped.”

Lampard’s final point as Toffees manager came in a 1-1 draw at City on New Year’s Eve 2022.

The former Derby County manager was sacked three games later following a run of six defeats and two draws in eight games.

Current Everton manager Sean Dyche succeeded Lampard, achieving Premier League safety on the final day of the 2022/23 campaign.

Harnessing the Power of Channel Incentives: Strategies for Success

0

In the realm of modern commerce, channel incentives play a pivotal role in driving partner engagement, boosting sales performance, and fostering mutually beneficial relationships between manufacturers and their channel partners. Channel incentives encompass a wide range of rewards, incentives, and recognition programs designed to motivate and incentivize channel partners to achieve specific business objectives, such as sales targets, market expansion, and product adoption. One of the primary aims of these incentives is to encourage partners to effectively sell through channel partners, leveraging their networks and expertise to reach end customers. In this article, we’ll explore the significance of channel incentives and share strategies for designing and implementing effective incentive programs that drive partner success and revenue growth.

Understanding Channel Incentives Dynamics

Channel incentives serve as a strategic tool for manufacturers to align the interests of their channel partners with their own business objectives. These incentives can take various forms, including financial rewards, rebates, discounts, SPIFFs (Sales Performance Incentive Funds), co-op marketing funds, and non-monetary incentives such as recognition, awards, and exclusive privileges. Key elements of channel incentives dynamics include:

Alignment with Business Objectives: Effective channel incentives programs are closely aligned with manufacturers’ strategic goals and objectives. Whether the aim is to drive sales growth, increase market share, promote new product launches, or enhance partner loyalty, channel incentives should be designed to incentivize behaviors that contribute to these overarching business objectives.

Motivation and Engagement: Channel incentives serve as powerful motivators for channel partners, encouraging them to prioritize and promote manufacturers’ products or services over competitors’. By offering attractive rewards and recognition for achieving specific performance targets, manufacturers can inspire greater engagement, effort, and commitment from their channel partners.

Performance Measurement and Tracking: Successful channel incentives programs rely on robust performance measurement and tracking mechanisms to monitor partner performance, track progress towards goals, and determine eligibility for rewards. Manufacturers should establish clear performance metrics, such as sales revenue, units sold, market share, or customer acquisition, and provide partners with visibility into their performance data to foster transparency and accountability.

Program Flexibility and Customization: Channel incentives programs should be flexible and adaptable to accommodate the diverse needs, preferences, and capabilities of channel partners. Manufacturers should offer a variety of incentive options, allowing partners to choose rewards that resonate with their interests and motivations. Additionally, incentives programs should be customizable to reflect partners’ unique business models, market dynamics, and competitive landscapes.

Strategies for Success in Channel Incentives

To maximize the effectiveness of channel incentives programs, manufacturers can implement several strategies tailored to their specific business objectives and partner dynamics:

Clear Goal Setting and Communication: Setting clear, achievable goals is the foundation of any successful channel incentives program. Manufacturers should clearly define performance targets, eligibility criteria, and reward structures to align partner expectations and motivate desired behaviors. Transparent communication is essential for ensuring that partners understand the program objectives, rules, and incentives available to them.

Tiered Incentive Structures: Tiered incentive structures allow manufacturers to reward partners based on their level of performance, offering escalating rewards for higher levels of achievement. By providing tiered incentives, manufacturers can incentivize partners to strive for continuous improvement and unlock greater rewards as they achieve higher levels of success.

Performance-Based Rewards: Performance-based rewards tie incentives directly to measurable outcomes, such as sales revenue, units sold, or market share. By aligning incentives with specific performance metrics, manufacturers can encourage partners to focus on activities that drive tangible business results and deliver value to the organization.

Timely Rewards and Recognition: Timely reward fulfillment is crucial for maintaining partner motivation and momentum. Manufacturers should strive to deliver rewards promptly upon achievement of performance targets, ensuring that partners feel valued and appreciated for their efforts. Additionally, public recognition and appreciation can enhance partner morale and loyalty, fostering a positive partnership culture.

Data Analytics and Insights: Leveraging data analytics and insights can provide manufacturers with valuable intelligence into partner performance, program effectiveness, and market trends. By analyzing performance data, manufacturers can identify top-performing partners, pinpoint areas for improvement, and refine incentive strategies to optimize program ROI.

Channel incentives programs play a critical role in driving partner engagement, incentivizing desired behaviors, and achieving business objectives in the channel sales ecosystem. By designing and implementing effective incentive programs that align with strategic goals, motivate partner performance, and foster collaboration, manufacturers can drive revenue growth, enhance partner loyalty, and gain a competitive edge in today’s dynamic marketplace.

Man warns over online romance after 83-year-old sister scammed out of £20,000

0

An Oldham man has warned those looking for love online not to fall foul of scammers, like his 83-year-old sister.

Over 18 months, *Alice* sent more than £20,000 to romance fraudsters.

She thought she had fallen in love with a man she met via an online scrabble game. The pair initially got on well and he soon asked her to change chat platform, where the relationship got more intense and he began to request cash.

Alice’s brother, *David*, said Alice had lost her husband a few years earlier and while she had family, often felt lonely.

David said: “My sister sent over £20,000 to scammers over 18 months, and I think if my wife and I hadn’t been there to help her, eventually they would have cleaned her out.

“Scammers are very clever; they target things like online scrabble because they know this is a place where they’ll find older women with a bit of money.

“And it always goes the same way – the scammer starts off by building a relationship and then claims they haven’t got access to their bank card and need a bit of money and will pay you back.

“My sister believed she was dating a 60-year-old millionaire in the United States who was promising to come over and look after her and give her a second chance at love. It was all a lie.”

A shared connection

Alice felt like she shared a connection with the fraudster – who described himself as a Christian, a widow like herself and a father. He seemed to understand her and was interested in her life and Alice thought she was in love.

David said: “We knew Alice’s behaviour had changed but we found out something was seriously wrong when she came to my wife and I for help. She said I’ve been a fool; I’ve just been to the bank and I’ve been sending money to someone abroad.

“The first scam we became aware of was a man claiming to be an American millionaire who was working on an oil rig. There came a day when he supposedly didn’t have access to his card and he told Alice that his daughter needed an operation that afternoon. He put pressure on her, saying the surgeon needed payment then and there or his daughter was going to lose her leg. And Alice just sent the money to him because they’d been talking that long, and she believed he was who he said he was.

“It’s all a bit ludicrous but next time he was going on a business trip to Russia and claimed he’d been arrested coming back through Istanbul and needed money to pay his bail. Again, Alice just sent him the money. She even got a fake letter addressed from the United Nations saying he was a prisoner and needed this money to be set free.”

“The stories are all the same: the scammers get themselves in a position where they supposedly can’t access their own money, because their account has been frozen, they’ve been in hospital, they’ve been in an accident or wrongfully arrested.”

Alice was asked by the scammer, to buy Google Play cards or Amazon cards – a common scam where the victim scratches the card to reveal the number and sends a photo of this to the scammers. Once in possession of this, the scammer can sell it on and take an 80% cut.

David now has Power of Attorney and supports the bank in investigating suspicious transactions on Alice’s accounts. They still don’t know the identity of the scammer.

Action Fraud

David hopes other victims will learn from his sister’s story, realise they are being scammed and will report to Action Fraud.

He said: “Everyone should be suspicious if someone they don’t know contacts them online. I dread to think what could have happened if my wife and I weren’t there for Alice – the scammers could have drained her account and left her with nothing.

“The photos and videos that my sister received seemed genuine, but I found out how to do a reverse image search and was able to show her they were all fake. It makes me really angry because they’ve deliberately targeted someone who is elderly and vulnerable, but I hope that by speaking out this will help protect other victims.”

Detective sergeant Stacey Shannon said: “Unfortunately, his story is far from unique and there are many people who fall victim to such scams. I hope his experience will help other victims realise what is happening to them and encourage them to make a report. Everyone should be vigilant online, and I want to emphasise that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

“Stop and think before responding to strangers you’ve met online, especially if they start asking for money. Criminals are experts at impersonating other people, and they spend days, weeks, months and even years cultivating a relationship with you all to execute a scam and take your money. If you suspect you or someone you know is a victim of romance fraud, please seek help sooner rather than later and report it.”

Paul Hampson, from CEL Solicitors, said: “It’s not just the money that makes romance fraud so distressing, it’s the feeling of betrayal and the emotional cost, too.

“Criminals target victims who are vulnerable, gain their trust and exploit them. We’d advise anyone to stop and think before they send money to someone they haven’t met.

“Social media and other online platforms should be doing more to protect victims from fake accounts, but for now people need to be vigilant.”

India v England: Sharma and Jadeja overcome early wobbles to put hosts on top

Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja hit centuries to dig India out of an early hole and into a strong position in the third Test against England in Rajkot.

The pair came together with the hosts wobbling at 33 for three – and with Mark Wood charging in – but batted beautifully in a fourth-wicket stand of 204 that changed the complexion of the opening day.

India closed on 326 for five with Jadeja still at the crease but no doubt ruing the late mix-up that saw his desperation to get to three figures result in the run-out of impressive debutant Sarfaraz Khan (62).

England’s decision to sacrifice a spinner and recall Wood alongside fellow seamer James Anderson looked a masterstroke early on as the Durham man made early gains.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hit a brilliant 209 in the last Test in Visakhapatnam, failed to cope with Wood’s extra pace and bounce, nicking off to Joe Root at slip for 10.

Wood then snared Shubman Gill for a nine-ball duck before spinner Tom Hartley got one to jump off a length to dismiss Rajat Patidar (five).

India needed a rebuild and it came in the form of captain Sharma and hometown hero Jadeja, back in the side following a hamstring injury.

The former had moments of fortune though, surviving a close lbw shout to Anderson before Root spilled a difficult chance in the slips after the batter had attempted to slog Hartley.

If the morning session was England’s, the afternoon was all about India. The pitch had dried under the midday sun and Sharma and Jadeja made hay, playing with an element of caution but also willing to put away the bad balls as they put on 92 without further loss.

Sharma completed his 11th Test ton in the first over after tea – bringing an end to a barren run.

England captain Ben Stokes, making his 100th Test match appearance, turned back to Wood and his short-ball barrage finally worked when Sharma, on 131, miscued to mid-wicket where Stokes himself gleefully snapped up a simple opportunity.

The tourists would have been eyeing further inroads with Sarfaraz and Dhruv Jurel the next two expected batters and both making their Test bows.

Sarfaraz had different ideas, producing a brilliant innings full of attacking intent to swing the momentum back India’s way. While he went on the front foot, Jadeja retreated into his shell in a bid to nudge his way to a century.

Jadeja also survived a let-off as England’s miserable run of DRS decisions continued, Stokes not opting to review a not-out call that would have seen Hartley claim his wicket leg before.

Sarfaraz cruised to his 50 off 48 balls – the second-quickest on debut for India – and seemed destined for more, only to be undone by a moment of madness from his partner.

The pair had already avoided one run out scare but there was to be no reprieve second time round when Jadeja called his young partner through for a quick single only to change his mind and Wood did the rest with a brilliant run out.

Sharma looked on unimpressed, throwing his cap to the ground, while he wasn’t seen to applaud when Jadeja did bring up three figures shortly afterwards.

Late mis-judgement aside, it was a day of triumph for Jadeja
