Oldham Athletic chair Frank Rothwell awarded ‘Point of Light’ by Downing Street

Oldham businessman Frank Rothwell has today been recognised as a ‘Point of Light’ by Downing Street for his outstanding fundraising efforts for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Every weekday, outstanding individual volunteers are recognised for their efforts in making a change to their community. First established in the US by President George H. W. Bush in 1990, Points of Light was developed and launched in the UK in 2014.

The 73-year-old has been named as the 2,291st recipient of the award, having just completed his second solo row across the Atlantic for the UK’s leading dementia research charity.

The grandfather and chair of Oldham Athletic AFC first showed support for the charity in 2020, when he took on a 3,000-mile row across the Atlantic Ocean. He raised £1.1million, including £500,000 match-funding from Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation.

Frank took on the challenge for the second time in December 2023 and crossed the finish line in February 2024 after 64 days at sea. He broke his own Guinness World Record as the ‘Oldest person to row across the Atlantic’ and became the ‘Oldest person to row any ocean solo.’  So far, he has raised over £373,000 for this attempt – bringing his combined total raised to over £1.4 million.

For a cure

Dementia research is a cause close to Frank’s heart, having lost his brother-in-law and best friend to the condition, and he was determined to raise awareness of the growing impact of dementia on society.  If nothing changes, one in two people will be directly affected by dementia, either by developing the condition, caring for someone with it, or both. With new treatments on the horizon, Alzheimer’s Research UK is striving to find a cure by revolutionising the way dementia is treated, diagnosed, and prevented. Frank named his boat ‘For A Cure’, to reflect the charity’s mission.

Frank said: “To be recognised as a Point of Light is something beyond my wildest dreams and it fills me with pride. I am truly honoured, thank you.

“Rowing across the Atlantic Ocean, solo, four years ago was, at the time, the hardest challenge I had ever taken on. But, like so many people, I have been affected by dementia and seen the heartbreak it causes. So, I decided to take on the challenge for the second time, in memory of my best friend Phil and brother-in-law Roger, determined to help make a difference for others. I can’t believe we’ve raised over £1.4 million across both rows to support Alzheimer’s Research UK’s search for a cure – it’s incredible.”

Outstanding efforts

Lucy Squance, director of supporter led fundraising at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “Huge congratulations to Frank on his well-deserved Point of Light award. Everyone here at Alzheimer’s Research UK is thrilled he is being recognised in this way for his outstanding fundraising efforts for dementia research. Frank and so many wonderful supporters are helping us change the ending for people affected by dementia, and we’re so grateful to have them by our side.

“Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer, with one in ten people dying from the condition. We simply cannot let this heartbreak continue. New, life-changing treatments are on the horizon, and we won’t stop until we’ve found a cure.

“Thank you, Frank, for standing with us for a cure and thank you to the Prime Minister for this recognition for Frank’s fantastic support.”

Six Nations 2024: Scotland visit Ireland, England travel to France and Wales host Italy – preview, how to watch and predictions

0

After England’s thrilling last-gasp win over Ireland at Twickenham, the final round of matches in the Six Nations 2024 are being billed as ‘Super Saturday’.

Ireland top the standings on 16 points, four ahead of England, who are a point above Scotland and France.

Wales will have a final chance to avoid finishing bottom when they host Italy, who are four points above them, in the first game of the weekend – a fate they would already have been condemned to had a late Azzurri penalty not struck a post against France.

Reigning champions Ireland are then at home to Scotland, giving Andy Farrell’s side the opportunity to take the title after their hopes of successive Grand Slam wins evaporated in their 23-22 defeat against England.

That result will define how much France and England can achieve when the final game begins at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

There is every chance that the bonus-point system, which was introduced in 2017, could come into play, awarding an extra point to teams who score four tries or lose by seven or fewer points.

Wales v Italy (Saturday, 1415)

Youthful Wales have shown encouraging signs during their campaign but ending the Six Nations with five defeats would give Warren Gatland’s squad nothing to show for their efforts.

Wales were 24-23 ahead against France on Saturday before appearing to be outmuscled during the closing stages on their way to a 45-24 defeat.

Tommy Reffell is a doubt with a knee injury he sustained during that game and George North could return, potentially alongside Owen Watkin, who impressed at 12.

Inspired by captain Michele Lamaro, Italy won at home in the championship for the first time in 11 years with a 31-29 victory over Scotland on Saturday, helped by the visitors conceding 12 penalties.

The underdogs also secured a 13-13 draw in France in their last game on the road, which should give them ample confidence at the Principality Stadium.

A bonus-point win would give Italy a chance of recording their best ever Six Nations performance by finishing third, although that would require Scotland and France to stumble.

Ireland v Scotland (Saturday, 1645)

Marcus Smith’s memorable last kick of the game at Twickenham showed Scotland that Ireland are less invincible than many observers had assumed.

Gregor Townsend’s players are likely to be bristling to prove themselves after their upset against Italy – but Ireland, too, could be a wounded and fierce animal after their unexpected setback.

“They’ve got strength throughout their team,” said Scotland flanker Andy Christie. “Everyone waxes lyrical about their system and how well they play together. It is not just their back-row – we need to look at their threats all over the pitch.

“We hope to get a full 80-minute performance and that’s exactly what we’ll need.”

While Ireland are considerable favourites and on the brink of another title, Scotland’s prospects of glory depend on a win with a points difference swing of 77 and other results going their way.

Victory would also earn Scotland the Triple Crown for the first time since 1990.

France v England (Saturday, 2000)

France have the form in a must-win game for the two teams in Lyon, winning the last two editions of the future, most recently in a 53-10 mauling at Twickenham in 2023.

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso is out with a head knock as the visitors look to build on arguably their best performance under Steve Borthwick.

“We’ve come off of a great win and we’ve probably not had this experience since we played South Africa in the [2023 World Cup] semi-final,” said flanker Ben Earl.

“It’s about leaning on those experiences and I think that’s the value of having such experienced players in the squad.”

England (23%) and France (22%) have the highest tackle evasion rates of any teams in this year’s Six Nations.

How to watch

Every game of the Six Nations will be shown by either the BBC or ITV in the UK. Wales v Italy is on BBC One, while the latter two fixtures are on ITV1.

Online viewers can watch on the BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer or ITV.com and ITVX.

Predictions

With top spot on the line, the chances of Scotland securing a huge upset in Dublin look even slimmer. Expect Ireland to return to winning ways on a less breathtaking afternoon than their contest with England provided.

France are hefty favourites to beat England and both sides will want to stake a claim as the lead challengers to Ireland in the next edition of the Six Nations. Les Bleus should find it tougher to overwhelm England than they did Wales, perhaps winning this one narrowly.

Almost exactly two years after Italy won 22-21 on their last trip to Cardiff, Wales should dodge a whitewash and ensure a successful send-off for North, who surprisingly announced this week that the game will be his last Test.

How to choose the best boiler service provider in London

Just like buying a new boiler is a big decision, selecting the right boiler service provider to perform routine maintenance and repairs should be done thoroughly.

You have invested a lot in your boiler and made wise decisions to ensure it runs efficiently for as long as possible. Now, with different boiler companies and many engineers, finding exemplary boiler service in London is not easy.

It is natural and justified for each company to advertise their service as the best. The problem then is finding out who actually is. This needs to be clarified, especially considering the diversity in the prices from company to company. Choosing the best boiler service in London involves several steps.

Here’s how you can choose the most trusted boiler service in London

● Research

When it comes to boiler repair, experience matters! You will want to use a service that has
experienced every situation. This will ensure that they understand what you need. Finding
established boiler repair services in London is also crucial because they are more likely to be up to date on any certificate or license they need to service your boiler. Start by researching the best providers in your area. Choose a company with positive reviews and ratings from previous customers.

● Narrow down your search area

If you are trying to get a certified boiler service in London, you must have encountered an
endless list of names. With more prominent cities like London, you will be swamped with
hundreds and thousands of merchants offering you services. You could simplify your options by narrowing down your research radius. This will leave you with a few local options, among them some of the best operating in your area.

● Safety

When involving a boiler, safety can always be noticed. You want to select a gas boiler service in London that has an impeccable safety record. If something unpleasant happens with your boiler, the consequences can be unpleasant. Therefore, you need to ensure that the boiler engineers are licensed and practise the highest safety standards. They will look at your boiler issue as a serious one and value it above everything else. The boiler engineers must be certified to perform boiler safety checks in London and repair the
boiler to address the problems.

● Quotes

A responsive and knowledgeable team can make the installation process smoother and more reliable. When considering the boiler service cost in London, keep in mind the most important things.

● Prices

The cheapest can often be the worst. It is cheap for a reason. A costly service is only sometimes the best. Although pricing should be one of many factors, getting boiler servicing quotes in London from different companies will give you an excellent idea of the current market rates and help you avoid paying hefty amounts.

● Credentials, insurance and emergency services

Boiler emergencies can occur anytime, on weekends or holidays. Selecting a 24/7 emergency service will ensure your boiler is covered whenever needed. Check for the necessary credentials and certifications. A reputable provider should have licensed and certified technicians. This ensures that the residential boiler service in London has proper insurance coverage, protecting you in unpleasant situations like an accident or impairment during the boiler’s installation.

● Customer service and reputation

Although technical knowledge is essential to find the right boiler service provider, it’s also
important to recognise how they treat their customers. A service with a good customer care policy backing it up is a service worth looking into. How quickly can they get a boiler engineer to inspect the boiler in person? Do they have 24/7 boiler service in London to address the concerns? Do they have remote assistance? The answer to these questions will describe how seriously a company takes customer service.

Reputable boiler service companies in London will have a solid guarantee policy to ensure you are left satisfied. A boiler service provider’s reputation matters a lot. Reviews, ratings, and testimonials talk a lot about the service. They are the best way to analyse their quality and reliability.

Conclusion

Boiler servicing is an essential part of an efficient heating system. The steps for selecting the annual boiler service in London involve obtaining quotes comparing the installation cost, warranty options, and any additional services offered. You then need to evaluate the provider’s customer service. Keeping the boiler in good working condition makes you much less likely to replace it, which is more cost-effective.

Ambitious plans adopted for transformation of Bury’s Mill Gate shopping centre

Plans to transform Bury’s Mill Gate shopping centre have been approved by the town’s  cabinet.

A special framework, created by property developer Bruntwood and Bury Council, in consultation with the community, outlines the ambitious scheme as part of the wider town centre masterplan, which aims to turn Bury into a ‘leading retail destination’ within Greater Manchester.

The development promises to create jobs, deliver new homes, provide high quality public spaces and improve connectivity.

Spanning 15 acres, the regeneration plans are set to transform the area into a vibrant and dynamic mixed-use community hub, incorporating leisure, hospitality and housing, with sustainability, education and wellness at its heart. It will also provide workspace facilities directly to the high street.

The scheme also seeks to enhance the surrounding area connecting the Mill Gate and Bury, and will guide future development. It will be followed by individual planning applications as each phase comes forward. Further consultations with the public will take place at each stage.

Chris Roberts, chief development officer at Bruntwood, said: “Community feedback has been crucial to shaping our Regeneration Framework and we’re really grateful to the people of Bury for sharing their thoughts on the future of the town centre.

The hidden dangers of delaying window repair after an emergency in the UK

Imagine waking up to a loud crash and discovering a broken window. Whether caused by a
storm, accident or attempted break-in, a damaged window presents an immediate concern.

While the initial shock subsides, you might delay getting it repaired. However, putting off window repair after an emergency in the UK can lead to a cascade of problems that impact your home’s security, energy efficiency, and overall well-being.

From compromising the security of your home to inflating energy bills and beyond, the consequences of postponing emergency window repair can be both significant and far-reaching. This guide explores the hidden dangers of delaying window repair and emphasises the importance of prompt action.

1: Security risks of broken windows

The security implications of a broken window extend beyond the immediate risk of unauthorised entry. This vulnerability can also erode the psychological sense of safety that your home is supposed to provide, creating an atmosphere of unease and anxiety among residents. The visibility of damage can signal to potential intruders not just an easy entry point but a broader neglect, possibly suggesting to them that other aspects of home security are also compromised or outdated.

Furthermore, in tightly knit communities or neighbourhoods where the appearance of one property can affect the perceived safety of the area, a broken window can undermine the collective security efforts, potentially making the whole vicinity a more attractive target for criminal activities. Immediate action to repair broken windows is not just about physical repair but also about reinforcing the security posture of your home and community, deterring potential intruders by demonstrating vigilance and prompt responsiveness to threats.

2: Weather exposure and damage

Beyond the immediate damage caused by rain, wind, and hail, a broken window exposes your home to more subtle yet equally damaging environmental effects. Prolonged exposure to moisture can lead to the warping of wooden frames and sills, while changes in temperature and humidity can cause existing cracks to expand. Over time, this can affect the structural integrity of not only the window itself but also the surrounding walls, potentially leading to more extensive and expensive repairs.

Furthermore, unchecked moisture ingress can encourage the growth of mould and mildew on window frames and interior surfaces, presenting health risks and further property damage. In winter, a broken window can lead to significant heat loss, making your home less energy-efficient and uncomfortably cold, while in summer, it can allow excessive heat entry, challenging your home’s cooling systems. Each of these factors underscores the importance of prompt window repair to protect your home from the UK’s often harsh and unpredictable weather conditions.

3: Energy inefficiency and rising costs

The impact of a broken window on your home’s energy efficiency extends into every aspect of your daily life, affecting not only comfort but also the environmental footprint of your household.

The extra strain placed on heating and cooling systems doesn’t just lead to higher energy bills; it also increases wear and tear on these systems, potentially shortening their lifespan and necessitating expensive replacements or repairs sooner than would otherwise be necessary.

Additionally, this inefficiency contributes to higher carbon emissions, counteracting any efforts to maintain an eco-friendly home. In the colder months, the loss of heat through a broken window can make certain areas of your home unusable due to discomfort, limiting your living space.

Conversely, in the summer, the inability to keep heat out can lead to overreliance on fans and air conditioning, further spiking energy consumption. Promptly addressing a broken window not only saves money in the short term but also contributes to the long-term sustainability and comfort of your home environment.

4: Health concerns and mould growth

In addition to mould, the influx of moisture and outdoor air through a broken window can introduce other allergens and pollutants into your home, compounding the potential for health issues among residents. Pollen, dust, and urban pollutants that would normally be filtered out by a well-sealed window can aggravate conditions such as asthma, hay fever, and other respiratory conditions.

Moreover, the damp conditions fostered by an unrepaired window create an ideal environment for dust mites, another common trigger for allergies and respiratory issues. Over time, continuous exposure to these health hazards can lead to more severe health problems, affecting the overall quality of life for you and your family. Ensuring that broken windows are promptly fixed not only restores the physical integrity of your home but also acts as a crucial step in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy living space, free from the risks posed by mould, allergens, and other airborne pollutants.

5: Property value decline and safety hazards

The repercussions of a broken window extend beyond immediate safety hazards and aesthetic concerns to encompass broader implications for property maintenance and value. A home that exhibits signs of neglect, such as unrepaired window damage, can be perceived as poorly maintained in other, less visible aspects, causing potential buyers to question the integrity of the entire property. This can result in lower offers or a prolonged time on the market.

Furthermore, from a safety perspective, a damaged window not only presents a risk of injury from contact with broken glass but also compromises the ability to securely lock your home, potentially making it more susceptible to break-ins. For families with children or pets, the risk of injury from exposed glass or an unsecured window becoming an unintentional exit point cannot be overstated.

Proactively addressing these issues by repairing or replacing damaged windows promptly can help maintain the safety, security, and aesthetic value of your home, preserving or even enhancing its market value while ensuring a safe living environment for all occupants.

6: Importance of emergency window repair services

Addressing a broken window after an emergency shouldn’t wait. Fortunately, numerous reputable companies in the UK offer emergency window repair services. These services ensure a swift and professional response, minimising the time your home remains vulnerable. Don’t hesitate to seek help from qualified glaziers who can secure your property and restore peace of mind.

In addition to repair, these services often provide options for upgrading to more resilient window types, such as double glazing or tempered glass, which can offer better insulation and increased resistance to impact. Investing in such upgrades not only addresses the immediate repair needs but also contributes to the long-term energy efficiency and security of your home.

Seeking assistance from emergency window repair services in the UK is not merely a reactive measure but a proactive step towards safeguarding your home against future incidents. Their expertise not only restores your windows to their former state but also reinforces your home’s defences, offering you and your family continued safety and peace of mind.

Conclusion

Though the upfront expense of window repair may initially appear expensive, the enduring repercussions of postponement significantly eclipse these early costs. Immediate measures not only bolster your home security but also diminish energy wastage, safeguard your well-being, and uphold your property’s value.

By giving precedence to emergency window repair services within the UK, you’re actively choosing a path that leads to a safer and more energy-efficient living environment. This decision aligns with the essential guidance offered in from home fixes to hiring help: window repair guidance, underscoring the importance of recognising when professional intervention is necessary to ensure thorough and lasting repairs.

Opting for expert services when the situation demands ensures your home remains a bastion of comfort and safety, epitomising prudent homeownership.

He wrote on X: “Very sadly we have had to make a very tough decision which is not to run Sir Gino in the Triumph Hurdle tomorrow and the same applies to Shanagh Bob in the Albert Bartlett.

“Both horses appear to be in great shape but we cannot ignore the performance of all our horses thought this week and indeed last week as well and we feel it would be crazy to chance it with two very high class young horses with their lives in front of them.

5 Pay-per-click mistakes that drain your budget: What UK businesses need to know

Are you struggling with your pay per click management? Not getting the desired results? Then, it’s time to re-watch your PPC advertising campaign. PPC management London is one of the best digital marketing methods to reach your potential customers and drive sales, but only if you do it right.

To get the most out of your PPC marketing, you must ensure that you’re not making some common PPC mistakes. In this article, we will explore five mistakes that drain the budget of UK businesses.

1. Failing to plan your PPC campaign properly

Every top PPC advertising campaign requires a well-planned approach. Businesses often make the mistake of not doing thorough research on their potential market online. Buying pay per click ads without a proper strategy that outlines your business’s goals is like pouring money down the drain.

A strategy outlines how you will differentiate your products and services from your competitors, as well as how you will identify your potential customers, how much money you will spend on PPC marketing, how you will establish your important performance measures, and how you will structure your marketing.

2. Poor ad copy

Ad copy is the title, description and other text you use in your ad. An ad’s Clickthrough Rate (CTR) depends significantly on the copy. If you’re creating a pay per click ad campaign for the first time, writing an effective ad copy might be a little difficult. But there are specific ways you can improve it. The first approach is to analyse the ads of your competitors.

For example, search for your keyword and see the ads on other websites. Then, analyse their strategy and content. Similarly, when you see a display ad from pay per click advertising anywhere and feel like clicking it, then do a screenshot of that copy for reference.

When you write content for your pay per click ads, you should keep the objectives of your target audience in mind. In the headline section, try to include emotional triggers and numbers. Next, make sure that your keyword is part of the content. At last, write multiple versions of your PPC advertising copy to see which one works the best for you.

3. Ignoring landing page quality

Many pay per click advertising companies focus so much on creating a PPC advertising campaign that they forget to analyse the quality of the landing page. When you run Google Ads, it considers the quality of your landing page and then assigns a score. The score depends on the quality of the content, loading time for desktop and mobile devices, and its relevance to the target audience.

If your landing page’s quality score is bad, you will pay higher bids for the keywords than your competitors. Also, if your landing page doesn’t load quickly, people abandon it anyway, and the ads will prove to be useless.

4. Using more than necessary keywords

Keywords are important, but keyword stuffing is bad. Every leading PPC specialist learns this during the training. A common PPC mistake that UK businesses often make is stuffing all relevant keywords into their campaign simultaneously. You must avoid doing this.

In pay per click advertising, you should meet people at various stages during their buying journey. Some of them are just researching, some are browsing, and some are actively looking for a product or service. When you stuff keywords, this segmentation gets ruined, and every target audience is driven to your pay per click ads, making them irrelevant.

5. Not split testing

With split testing, you can use the data and technology to your advantage. The role of split testing is to help you understand what type of pay per click ads will perform better for a specific PPC advertising campaign.

So, if you’re not using it, you’re making a big PPC mistake. Performing split testing can help to increase the conversion rate. The best way to do it is to create several variations of a single ad by modifying one or two aspects. Then, analyse the changes in the ad performance. With this, you can finalise the ad to proceed with.

The bottom line

PPC mistakes can drain your budget if you let them pile up. PPC management by a reliable and trusted agency like Telsa Media can help you avoid these mistakes. Knowing about them and correcting them on time can help you not waste valuable resources. It will ensure your budget is used wisely and brings the desired results.

They offer affordable packages so you can benefit from PPC ads and take your digital marketing efforts to the next level. Their professional experts use every possible strategy to help your business reach.

With this in mind, this article offers top tips on how to keep business costs down and prevent your business from suffering any financial losses.

By fostering a proactive approach to budget management and embracing technology, your business can stay agile, responsive, and well-equipped to navigate the complexities of today’s business landscape with confidence.
Negotiate with Suppliers and Vendors

Implementing software solutions for tasks such as accounting, inventory management and customer relationship management (CRM) can help optimise operations and minimise overhead expenses.
Encourage Cost-Conscious Culture
Foster a cost conscious culture within your organisation by promoting awareness and accountability among employees. Encourage team members to identify cost saving opportunities, minimise waste and adopt frugal practices in their day-to-day activities. You could even reward innovative ideas that contribute to the company’s cost saving efforts, fostering a collaborative environment focused on financial efficiency and success.

Monitor Cash Flow and Working Capital

Regularly Review and Analyse Expenses
Conduct regular reviews of your business expenses to identify areas where costs can be reduced or optimised. Analyse spending patterns and look for opportunities to cut unnecessary or excessive costs.
You should also prioritise essential expenses and be savvy with your repair costs. For instance, let’s say your boiler broke down in the office and needs to be repaired to ensure that your staff are kept warm during Manchester’s cold winter. Instead of replacing the whole product, you could consider purchasing some spare boiler parts to save on the total costs of fixing it.
Being mindful can make a significant difference in reducing your overall expenses. It is also recommended to get multiple quotes to make sure that you are getting the most competitive prices.
The Bottom Line
By implementing these tips and adopting a proactive approach to managing expenses, you can effectively alleviate the stress of keeping business costs down while positioning your business for long term success and sustainability. Remember to regularly reassess your cost saving strategies and adjust them as necessary to ensure continued effectiveness and efficiency in managing your business expenses.

Cheltenham Festival 2024: Mullins lands 100th winner despite El Fabiolo missing out in Champion Chase

0

Willie Mullins may have missed out on glory in the Queen Mother Champion Chase but he still had plenty to celebrate after landing his 100th winner at the Cheltenham Festival today.

Mullins was expected to reach the milestone moment in the feature race of the day only for 2/9 favourite El Fabiolo to catch a fence and pull up. Captain Guinness took full advantage to run clear from Gentleman De Mee (16/1) to win for Declan Landy at 17/2.

But Mullins was not to be denied and brought up his century in the final race of the day as Jasmin De Vaux won the Champion Bumper. To cap a memorable moment for Mullins, the winner was ridden by his son Patrick.

Mullins Snr said: “It’s a wonderful day, it’s fantastic.

“I thought my lifetime achievement was when I had a winner here in Cheltenham in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle back in 1995 and who ever dreamt any trainer, never mind me, could do it.

“I can’t train winners without a team of owners who have horses and then the team from my wife Jackie, to David Casey, Patrick, Ruby (Walsh), all our head people, it’s huge for them. I think they are probably going to enjoy it more than I will.

“It’s extraordinary stuff.”

It was also a day to remember for Landy and Captain Guinness’ jockey Rachael Blackmore.

She guided her ride home once Edwardstone fell at the penultimate fence with Gentleman De Mee unable to keep pace.

Funambule Sivola was a 100/1 shot in third.

Blackmore told ITV Racing: “He [Captain Guinness] travelled incredible and jumped really well. It is incredible. So pleased for his owner. He has been knocking on the door.

“It is incredible to win this, just incredible and so happy to do it on this horse. He always runs his race. He is enthusiastic.”

Landy added on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Unbelievable, I’m shocked, lost for words.

“We were hoping to be second like we were last year. With the last run we were confident of a good run – but that’s unbelievable.”

Mullins may have suffered disappointment in the middle of the day but he started it the way he finished it, in style, with his horses claiming the first five places in the Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle.

Ballyburn led home the quintet with Paul Townend on board as the 1/2 favourite with Jimmy Du Seuil (66-1) second and Ile Atlantique third at 9/2.

Mullins told Racing TV: “That was some performance. For Paul to look around turning for home must have been because of the feel the horse was giving him. I was afraid we were going to have an Annie Power moment at the last because he went into it so fast.

“To come up the hill like that, wow what a performance!”

Ballyburn’s victory gave Mullins win number 98 at the festival and he moved to 99 immediately as Fact To File cruised home in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at 8/13 ahead of Monty’s Star (13/2) and Giovinco (40/1).

Jockey Mark Walsh said: “This is a class horse, he’s something else.

“He jumped and travelled so well. I didn’t want to get there too soon because he was stepping up in trip but he winged the last and just galloped on from there.”

Mullins had a rare blank in the Coral Cup as Langer Dan (13/2) defended his title from Ballyadam (13/2), Shanbally Kid (12/1) and Lucky Place (25/1).

Langer Dan’s trainer Harry Skelton told ITV Racing: “This was 12 months’ planning, but we didn’t have it all plain-sailing. He’s come alive in the last few weeks and when he was getting bumped and banged around there, he was loving it.

“The more you put him in the race the easier he becomes to ride and get competitive. The more he was knocked about the more he thrived.”

There was more Skelton success in the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Chase with Unexpected Party (12/1) finishing strongly to take the win from Libberty Hunter (6/1), Path D’oroux (10/1) and Sa Fureur (4/1 fav).
