SANTANDER UK SIGNED BY BARINGS IN NEW SPACE AT LANDMARK, MANCHESTER

Barings Real Estate, one of the world’s largest diversified real estate investment managers, has acquired Santander UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of the major international bank Banco Santander, as occupier for the eighth floor of Manchester City Centre’s Landmark office development.

Santander UK has signed an 11-year lease for the 14,012 sq ft eighth floor at Landmark, cementing its presence in Manchester. The deal follows the recent letting of the thirteenth floor to global business platform, Xero UK and the ninth floor to global audit, tax and consulting firm RSM UK, taking the total lettings at the high-profile building in the final quarter of 2022 to over 40,000 sq ft.

The trio of new occupiers complements the current roster which includes HSBC UK, Allianz Insurance, Grant Thornton, JLL and social enterprise Change Please within the building.

The 180,000 sq ft award-winning Landmark development offers 14 floors of BREEAM Excellent and Wired Score Platinum certified office space in Manchester City Centre. Barings’ focus on well-being, customer experience, sustainability and technological infrastructure at Landmark provides all-important facilities for existing and future tenants, including contactless technologies enabling touch-free movement within the building, a dedicated cycle storage and maintenance hub, high-quality showers and changing facilities, electric car charging spaces and Amazon lockers for package delivery and returns.

Ian Mayhew, Managing Director, UK Asset Management at Barings, said: “Santander UK is a welcome addition to our occupier base at Landmark and we are looking forward to the team becoming operational in their new office. We have invested heavily in our occupier experience and the building’s environmental and technological credentials and we are pleased this is being recognised.  We are delighted to have secured over 40,000 sq ft of new lettings at Landmark in Q4 2022 alone. We have strong interest in the remaining last floors and look forward to making further announcements in due course.”

Dan Margolis, senior surveyor in Colliers’ National Offices team who represented Santander UK, added: “The award-winning Landmark is an exceptional workplace in Manchester’s premier business district and every detail from health and wellbeing, customer experience, digital connectivity to the environment has been considered. This, coupled with being located in the same building as other global occupiers will create an excellent working environment for the Santander UK team.”

Leasing agents on Landmark are CBRE and JLL. Santander UK was advised by Colliers.
