Rochdale Road Medical Centre and Healing Humanity Host Festive Christmas Lunch

The Rochdale Road Medical Centre, in collaboration with the charity Healing Humanity, recently organised a Christmas Lunch for their patients and local residents. This heartwarming event was specially designed for several isolated, elderly, and lonely individuals identified by the Charity and Practice, many of whom had not ventured outside their homes for years.

Jackie McCann, the Charity Lead, together with Dr. Salman Shahid, spearheaded this initiative. After considering various ideas, they settled on hosting a luncheon to bring people together. To make this happen, they enlisted the support of other local charities. Demesne Community Centre generously offered to host the event, decorating the venue in a festive and welcoming manner. Bowlee Community Centre provided volunteers to serve the guests, while Wellens Funeral Directors and Status 4 All contributed significantly towards the expenses. Additionally, Tesco Middleton donated essential items like tablecloths, serviettes, and crackers, with Healing Humanity supplying the food.

The guests were treated to a delightful three-course Christmas meal. Transportation was arranged for those who needed it, and the day began with a charming performance by children from Buttons and Bows nursery. The festivities concluded with everyone joining in for a carol singalong and a special visit from Santa.

The event received outstanding feedback from all attendees, who expressed immense enjoyment and gratitude. Several guests sent thank-you notes to the surgery, praising the wonderful day and even suggesting a similar gathering in the summer.

This Christmas Lunch exemplified true community spirit, with various groups coming together to provide a day of joy and companionship to those who might otherwise spend the festive season alone or without a celebratory meal.
