Manchester is set to host a season of screenings of The People’s Emergency Briefing, with around 10 showings taking place at venues across the city during October and November.
The aim is to bring communities, businesses and organisations together to hear the case for a UK-wide government emergency briefing on climate and nature.
The screenings are being organised by a range of Manchester businesses and organisations, bringing people together to raise awareness of the climate and nature crisis and build public support for a government-led emergency briefing.
Highlighted venues include Manchester Cathedral and Manchester Museum, alongside further locations across the city. All screenings are open to everyone.
The National Emergency Briefing (NEB) is calling for government to give a live emergency briefing on the climate and nature crisis, introduced by the Prime Minister and delivered by independent experts, as an essential step to unlock the wartime-scale response now required.
The new film, presented by Chris Packham (pictured), is screening in communities and workplaces across the UK to raise awareness and build public support for that government-led briefing.
It features contributions from prominent figures including Jennifer Saunders and Deborah Meaden, alongside leading scientists and experts.
There has been significant national enthusiasm for the screenings, with more than 3,500 having taken place or planned across the UK.
The campaign is also backed by a parliamentary petition set up by Chris Packham, calling for a UK-wide government briefing on climate and nature risks. The petition has attracted 122,850 signatures to date and closes on November 20.
