Teenager dead following one-vehicle crash on M62

A man has died and a driver arrested following a collision on the M62 near Rochdale.

At 10.30pm yesterday, police responded to reports of a crash involving one vehicle near junction 21 in Milnrow.

Emergency services attended and a 19-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital, while another passenger was unhurt.

Collision

Police say initial enquiries suggest that a grey Vauxhall Astra was driving westbound near to junction 21 in Milnrow when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the central barriers.

Subsequently, the car then crossed over onto the eastbound carriageway and overturned.

The 19-year-old driver was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody for questioning.

Witnesses needed

Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses.

The force is keen to speak to anyone with any footage, including dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area at the time leading up to the collision.

The motorway remained fully closed between junction 21 and junction 22 for Denshaw overnight and into this morning as police continued to investigate the collision.
