SALFORD-BASED HYDES APPOINTS EXPERIENCED GENERAL MANAGER TO RUN ITS NEWEST PREMIUM DINING PUB

Salford-based brewery and pub retailer Hydes has appointed an experienced general manager to run its newly acquired premium dining pub on the Wirral.

Roy Wilson will lead the team at The Harry Beswick in Heswall. The new pub restaurant, which will open its doors for the first time this Autumn, will create up to 40 new jobs.

With almost a decade of experience with Hydes at some of its most successful premium dining pubs, Roy previously managed The Hornsmill in Helsby, near Chester since 2018. Prior to this, he was at The Jolly Thresher in Lymm.

Hydes acquired the building earlier this year, which will see the conversion of the town’s former police station into a premium dining and drinking establishment. The Harry Beswick on Telegraph Road is named in honour of the original architect of the building.

The £1.3million acquisition of the Harry Beswick building is Hydes’ first property acquisition in over five years. The building has been empty for several years and is currently undergoing a £2.3m transformation. It was originally built in 1911 and was the town’s police station for over a century.

New general manager Roy Wilson, commented: “I know Heswall very well so the chance to establish and run The Harry Beswick from scratch is a major opportunity for me in terms of furthering my career with Hydes. Operating The Hornsmill for the past five years has been a great experience and to turn it into the successful operation that it has become, under the most challenging conditions the hospitality industry has ever faced, has been extremely rewarding. I’m hoping to replicate the success I had there to ensure that The Harry Beswick is equally successful.

“The location and the building are both outstanding. This coupled with a £2 million-plus investment from Hydes will ensure its reputation for providing customers with a premium dining and drinking experience will fit in very well with the vibrant bar, restaurant and social scene in Heswall. I’m also keen to ensure that such a magnificent building will now continue in such a positive way, bringing jobs and further prosperity to the area. Thanks to Hydes, The Harry Beswick will once again become an important local community hub.”

Hydes operates nearly 50 pubs ranging from Lancaster in the North to Stoke-on Trent in the Midlands and across to North Wales including a wide selection of premium dining destination outlets, craft style bars and traditional community pubs. Hydes currently operates one other establishment on the Wirral, the Boat House in nearby Neston.

Managing director of Hydes Brewery, Adam Mayers said: “Roy is a first-class manager and has done an outstanding job at The Hornsmill over the past five years. His experience and commitment is second to none and he possesses all the key customer service attributes that Hydes looks for in its employees. His skill in building dedicated, committed teams will undoubtedly help The Harry Beswick to hit the ground running when it opens and I have no doubts that, along with the team he assembles, a loyal customer base will be very quickly established.

“We are working hard to make sure The Harry Beswick will deliver a great experience for customers  with a quality, contemporary new design scheme and feel, combined with a premium dining and drinking experience and Hydes’ standards of customer service.”

The acquisition of the premises forms part of an ongoing multi-million pound investment programme across the Hydes’ estate over the next few years. Last year, Hydes committed over £4.5m to refurbishments of pubs across its estate and it intends to increase that investment substantially throughout 2023.

Adam Mayers continued: “After being left for years, it’s great to see such an iconic building being revitalised, fully retaining its significant heritage and history, which is very important to us and our customers. Now that we have Roy in place as general manager, we’re looking forward with great excitement to building an outstanding team of kitchen, bar and serving staff in readiness for The Harry Beswick opening its doors for the first time later this year.”

Hydes, with its brewery in Media City, Salford, was formed in 1863 and supplies beers to wholesalers, pub companies and other brewers throughout the UK and a pub retailing estate of nearly 50 pubs across the North West of England and North Wales.

Anyone interested in joining the Hydes team at The Harry Beswick should register their interest by calling 07917 575256. Positions of various levels of experience are available across all areas ranging from kitchen and bar to service and front of house.

Radio legend and cancer survivor Mark Radcliffe says: “Don’t be silent. Speak out”

0

Mark Radcliffe – BBC radio presenter  is urging men across the North West to look out for signs of head and neck cancer and have the confidence to “Speak Out, as part of a new campaign from North West Cancer Research.

Don’t Be Silent. Speak Out launches today (Thursday 31 August) as new figures show that more men across the region are living with head and neck cancer.

According to newly-released statistics from the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS), rates of head and neck cancer in the North West are 20% higher than England as a whole; with over twice as many men living with the disease than women.

Affecting more than 30 different parts of the head and neck, including the throat, tongue and mouth, the condition is more common in men, especially those aged 50 and above.

And Mark, who was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue and lymphnodes in 2018is passionate about getting other men to look out for symptoms and, importantly, get medical advice as soon as possible.

The 65-year-old first noticed a lump in his neck while shaving his beard and consulted his GP straightaway.

Following his diagnosis, he underwent surgery to remove the cancerous tumours in his tongue and neck, after which he was given an intensive course of radiotherapy and two rounds of chemotherapy.

Dad-of-three Mark has now been cancer-free for five years and recently discharged from his oncologist. He said: “On the day I was diagnosed, the consultant asked whether I had someone there with me and thought to myself ‘well, that doesn’t sound good, does it!’

“I remember thinking about this terrible word, ‘cancer’, and how I was going to tell my wife and children – it’s something that you never think will happen to you. But, unfortunately, it can happen and it’s a word that’s heard a lot more in our region.

I know that I am so lucky to be here todayMy story could’ve been very different if I hadn’t gone to my doctor straightaway – I was told if it hadn’t been found so quickly, I would’ve had six to eight months to live, which is terrifying.

The message is so simple – if you find a symptom, just get it checked out. If it turns out to be nothing, then you have lost nothing. But it could save your life.”

Common symptoms of head and neck cancer include: a lump or swelling in the neck, jaw or mouth; difficulty swallowing; persistent hoarseness; nosebleeds; a decreased sense of smell; or numbness in part of the face.

Shirley Pringle, Research Matron at the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Head and neck cancer is the eighth most common cancer in the UK and early detection and diagnosis is vital in improving outcomes for patients.

“If you have any concerns, would urge you to contact your GP as soon as possible – symptoms vary so it is important to know what to look for.

As part of the Don’t Be Silent. Speak Out campaign, North West Cancer Research has teamed up with a group of men from across the region who have all survived head and neck cancer, to encourage others to seek medical advice from their GP or dentist.

Alastair Richards, CEO of North West Cancer Research, said: “Across the North Westrates of head and neck cancer are 20% higher than the rest of the country.

We also see similar inequalities across other types of cancer, whereby those living in our region are impacted significantly more than their counterparts living elsewhere.

“It is our mission close this gap through specific research projects that tackle the cause and find the cure for cancer. Until then though, it’s vital that people across the area know what to look out for and when to get medical advice.

That’s why Don’t Be Silent. Speak Out is so important to help increase early diagnosis and, most importantly, encourage people to ‘speak out’.”

DVLA Preempts New Changes by Banning Specific Number Plate Combinations

0

In anticipation of upcoming changes, the DVLA has taken the initiative to prohibit certain number plate combinations from circulation. As of September 1st, the DVLA is set to introduce the ’73’ registration plates, marking the second of the two annual number plate releases.

The initial release for this year, the ’23’ number plate, was introduced in March, with the ’73’ plates poised for issuance later this week. The periodic introduction of these number plates ushers millions of new combinations into circulation, inevitably resulting in instances where certain combinations unintentionally form or resemble inappropriate or offensive words.

To uphold standards of social acceptability on the road, the DVLA employs a comprehensive list of banned number plates that undergo strict scrutiny before public distribution. A recent Freedom of Information request, made by Jon Kirkbright, the Sales Director at Platehunter, unveiled the extensive list of banned number plate combinations, offering an exclusive insight into the DVLA’s approach.

Jon Kirkbright, a specialist in the buying and selling of private number plates with over 11 years of experience in the industry, expressed, “The DVLA precludes a substantial number of number plates before each release, a fact that the general public may not typically be privy to. Given the scale of releasing millions of plates biannually, it’s unsurprising that some combinations inadvertently form or almost form offensive words.”

He further acknowledged the borderline nature of some banned combinations, highlighting the DVLA’s cautious stance. Kirkbright emphasized that these measures are designed to safeguard a vital source of revenue for the DVLA.

With the biannual number plate releases, Kirkbright noted the surge in demand for popular combinations, particularly those containing names. Platehunter, boasting an inventory of over 56 million personalised number plates for sale, positions itself as an affordable number plate supplier, offering plates starting at just £39 plus VAT and transfer fees.

For individuals seeking more information or assistance in purchasing or selling private number plates, PlateHunter offers its services. Interested parties can also connect with PlateHunter via InstagramTwitter or Facebook for further engagement.

Exclusive Insights: Mastering the Art of Timing for Optimal Home Purchases

0

The worst month to buy a home due to its 12.8% average seller premium is May, according to ATTOM. On the other hand, November has an average premium of 6.3% meaning there is less competition, therefore sellers are more willing to negotiate prices.

The best time to purchase a home will depend on seasonality, market trends, preferred location, and inventory levels. Look at the following factors to determine when you should buy a home:

● Seasonality. Most experts recommend avoiding buying property during seasonal peaks, such as in May, because this can lead to higher prices. It’s the reason why some people like buying homes when the demand is lower than usual, such as in November.

● Market trends. Markets are constantly changing based on supply/demand dynamics within each city’s local economy and overall economic growth trends. Keep tabs on national averages along with regional trends.

● Local inventory levels. A high supply of homes at a desired location will make it easier for buyers to find a good option for a decent price. When inventory levels are high, there is less competition, and you can negotiate more effectively with sellers.

Let’s stop wondering and start making some steps toward buying an ideal place at the right time.

Utilise Web Search Results to Compare Home Buying Times Across Markets
pexels ketut subiyanto 4245926 scaled

The internet is one of the best tools when it comes to home search. You can easily find property for sale in Dubai or other cities, as well as info on home buying times across markets and cities using Google or Bing.

For example, now the US market experiencing the lowest number of home sales in the past five months, according to TradingEconomics. It means that the demand is low, and you can negotiate a better deal. You will also see that property prices have dropped in the first quarter of 2023 if you look at the EU property market. It means you might want to enjoy property there at a lower price now.

However, before using online resources for your research, make sure you evaluate their quality and credibility by considering:
● Who is providing this information?
● Is it from an unbiased source?
● How long has this person or organisation been providing this type of information?
● What kind of experience do they have working in the industry?
● Did they conduct surveys among current homebuyers?

Here are some tips you can use to leverage online search in your favour:
● Check out the median home price for the area.
● Compare that number to your current market’s median price. If it’s higher, then you’ll probably have a longer buying process in store for you.
● Investigate how much inventory has been added over time by looking at historical data. It’s best to work only with reliable resources that were recommended to you by friends and have real reviews online.

Use Market Indicators and Statistics to Identify the Best Time

Some statistics and indicators can help you identify the best time to purchase. They include:
● Supply. The number of houses available in a certain area.
● Demand. The number of people who want to purchase homes in your area at any given time.
● Price. The average cost of homes sold in your area over time.
● Price per square foot. This indicator can help you compare prices for different houses in the same area so that you can pick a more profitable option.
● Home sales volumes (current annual rate).
● Change in prices during each quarter/year (price index).

You can find those indicators on websites such as Trulia or Zillow. Calculate the absorption rate to see how well the houses are selling in a certain market. If there are more homes than buyers in a given area, then it may be a good time for you to evaluate available options and buy the best one.

Leverage Online Platforms to Analyse Potential Properties for Sale

It’s crucial to understand why you might want to use online tools:
● websites provide free information and pictures of the property that are for sale;
● you can use various search filters such as price range search;
● they allow you to save houses you liked in the favourites section, so you can compare them later.

Analysing your options online will help ensure that the property is priced correctly compared with similar homes in the area. It will also help you pick the best option available on the market right now.

Follow Best Practices to Close the Deal in Future

pexels kindel media 7579045 scaled
There are best practices for negotiating and closing the deal for buying a home at the best time. Here are some tips:
1. Make sure you’re ready for all contingencies. You don’t want to be caught off guard by hidden details or surprises that could affect your ability to close on time or negotiate effectively. Get everything in writing before sending over an offer.
2. Stay flexible and prepared for last-minute changes such as increased interest rates or unexpected repairs after inspection.
3. Get pre-approved before starting your search. By getting your finances right and pre-qualified, you can show sellers that you are serious about buying a house within their price range.

You can close the deal at the best time and ensure that your hard work pays off by following those tips.

To Sum Up

The right time to buy a house will depend on several factors, such as seasonality, market trends, and local supply. If you look at the statistics, spring and summer are a good time to buy a house.

However, each location will have its best time, so you should monitor the trends in that area. You have to gather your finances, do research, and get your priorities straight before contacting sellers or real estate agents!

Employers urged to extend support for workers after energy bills blow

0

Employers are being urged to expand cost-of-living support for workers following the announcement of the latest Ofgem price cap.

While the price per unit of energy has come down under the new price cap level, higher standing charges and the end of the Government £400 energy payment means that for most households with lower usage, bills will be even higher this winter than last.

Greg Marsh, CEO and Co-founder of Nous.co, a service which saves employees money by managing their household bills, said: “The energy bill crisis is far from over – for many households their bills will be the same or even higher this winter than last. It’s essential that employers do whatever they can to help their workforce.

“We know many managers want to help, but many simply aren’t able to meet inflation-linked pay demands.

“High-quality workplace perks can help untangle this problem – a well-placed benefit can save an employee far more money than it costs the business to roll out. The best approach is to focus on benefits that solve the issue of soaring bills directly at the source.”

Polling by Nous.co has found that energy bills are the biggest source of concern for UK households. Some 68% of people are worried about their energy bill, compared to 43% who are worried about their mortgage or rent, and 38% who are worried about their council tax.

From October to December, the price cap will be set at a level where a typical dual-fuel household paying by direct debit faces an annual bill of £1,923, based on average consumption.

Daily standing charges will increase from 53p to 53.37p for electricity, and from 26p to 26.26p for gas.
