YEEP! Parcel Lockers Introduced to Southeastern Train Stations by LockerQues

LockerQuest, the masters of parcel locker locations, have joined forces with Amey TPT to deploy YEEP! parcel lockers at 50 Southeastern Train Stations.

YEEP! stands as an extensive residential network of open, unbiased, battery-powered parcel lockers, facilitating the seamless pickup and drop-off of parcels for all carriers and consumers right within their local communities in an eco-conscious and convenient manner.

The YEEP! parcel locker service has already gone live at numerous locations, with a projection of over 400 lockers to be operational this year, including the 50 strategically positioned at Southeastern stations. The parcel locker network is set to expand to 1,000 units by Q2 2024, with even grander aspirations to install 10,000 of them throughout the entire United Kingdom.

YEEP! functions as a high-density, hyper-local parcel delivery network, guided by a meticulously honed data-driven model for location selection. This approach aligns with the ambition to ensure that 90% of the populace is within a mere 250 meters – what they whimsically call “slipper distance” – of a YEEP! locker.

These easy-to-install and maintenance-free battery-powered lockers are accessible to all UK carriers, retailers, and local authorities, offering the convenience of 24/7 parcel drop-offs and pickups while significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional courier deliveries.

Jonathan White, CEO of LockerQuest, remarks, “Thanks to Amey TPT, we were delighted to facilitate an agreement between YEEP! parcel lockers and Southeastern Trains. We have worked with Amey TPT to identify locations for YEEP! parcel lockers and the stations selected where based on where people live and go.”

“The programme has been very successful based on the governance that Amey TPT follows. From our initial list of stations that met the criteria of a YEEP! locker location, our surveyors were able to follow a clear set of rules regarding station safety and operational activities resulting in excellent conversion rates for final installation.”

Following the triumphant launch with Southeastern, LockerQuest is already in collaboration with other Amey TPT portfolio managers, seeking additional opportunities within the railway estate.

Noël Shapton, CEO and founding Director at YEEP!, exclaims, “I am thrilled to bring our pioneering parcel delivery solution to locations throughout the UK including many across the rail network. We’re going further and faster and have big ambitions to become the largest, most sustainable agnostic parcel locker network in the UK within a very few years, working with LockerQuest really helps to support our growth plans.”

“The LockerQuest team is very knowledgeable and work closely with the YEEP! team to ensure locations are where people live and go. They know what makes a perfect YEEP! location and have provided some excellent places for our lockers to operate. Being positioned in the heart of many local communities, railway stations are high footfall locations and provide convenient access to parcel lockers for both commuters and people that live close by.”

LockerQuest is actively seeking new hosts for YEEP! parcel lockers. If you possess visible, accessible, and secure locations, do not hesitate to reach out by visiting https://lockerquest.com/become-a-host/

Visual regression testing: A visual approach to bug detection

0

In software development, it is crucial to guarantee uniform performance and appearance across all hardware and browsers.

Visual inconsistencies, such as misplaced items, typeface problems, and unexpected layout changes, can negatively affect the user experience and overall product quality. Developers and QA teams use the excellent tool known as “Visual Regression Testing” to efficiently solve these issues.

This method entails comparing screenshots of the current programme with earlier iterations to find any unfavourable visual alterations in the application’s graphic elements.

Fundamentals of visual regression testing

Visual regression testing is a crucial quality assurance method that focuses on locating visual differences between different iterations of your program. It is an expansion of traditional functional testing.

Visual Regression Testing makes use of advanced picture comparison tools rather than only relying on code-based tests. The procedure follows a set pattern: initial screenshots are taken during testing to create a visual baseline or reference collection that depicts the expected appearance of the program.

Once changes have been made, whether they involve improving the operation of the application, including new features, or changing its appearance, developers take new pictures to reflect the application’s current condition. After carefully comparing these fresh screenshots to the reference set, visual regression testing tools highlight any discrepancies or “visual regressions.”

Once these visual regressions are identified, they undergo a meticulous review by both QA teams and developers. The team separates between actual issues that need to be fixed right away and deliberate design modifications during this evaluation. The application’s visual integrity and quality are maintained throughout its development lifespan by swiftly implementing any necessary fixes if there are real faults.

How visual regression testing functions

  1. Capture baseline screenshots: At first, screenshots of various pages or parts of your program are taken. These are used as the baseline or reference photographs.
  2. Make changes: You must make sure that any upgrades, additions, or changes to the code don’t result in aesthetic flaws while your development team works on them.
  3. Capture new screenshots: New screenshots are taken after every change to show how your program is currently functioning.
  4. Comparison: Tools for visual regression testing, such as LambdaTest, indicate any differences between the new screenshots and the baseline photos, which are frequently referred to as “visual regressions.”
  5. Review and remediate: Developers and QA teams examine the detected visual regressions to identify whether these are deliberate design changes or faults that need to be fixed.

Benefits of visual regression testing

Visual regression implementation including testing in your development process has several compelling benefits:

  • Enhanced user: A better user experience is achieved by ensuring visual consistency across browsers and devices because users won’t face jarring layout difficulties or broken UI elements.
  • Time and cost savings: The detection of visual flaws is automated through visual regression testing, eliminating the need for significant human testing and conserving time and money.
  • Improved development workflow: The knowledge that Visual Regression Testing will identify unintentional visual regressions early in the development cycle gives developers the confidence to make changes and updates.
  • Increased test coverage: Visual regression testing is like giving your app a keen inspector. It pays great attention to how your app feels and looks in addition to the coding. It’s like having a detective and a designer on your team when used in conjunction with routine testing, guaranteeing that your app not only functions well but also looks fantastic.
  • Regression prevention: You can avoid expensive post-release adjustments and keep an application that runs more steadily by identifying visual regressions before they hit production.

The penalty for employing illegal workers revealed

0

For employers, the process of verifying an employee’s right to work can seem complicated and difficult to manage. The Home Office has laid out a series of regulations, encapsulated in the 2022 Code of Practice on Preventing Illegal Working, that employers must adhere to. Failure to comply can result in severe repercussions, both financial and legal.

As such, it’s imperative for businesses to be well-versed in the potential penalties and preventive measures associated with employing illegal workers, and make sure they remain in full compliance with business immigration law when hiring from overseas.

Understanding the civil penalties

Should any organisation be found in breach of business immigration laws by employing individuals without the right to work in the UK, the financial consequences can be dire. The civil penalty can go up to £20,000 for each illegal worker, which can cause significant financial strain for smaller businesses in particular.

On 7th August 2023, the Home Office announced that, from January 2024, employer civil penalties for a first illegal working breach will increase from £15,000 to £45,000 for each employee found to be working without permission. For subsequent breaches, the fine triples from £20,000 to £60,000 for each employee.

However, there are conditions under which this penalty might be reduced. For instance, if the business can prove that it has an effective right-to-work verification system in place, or if it cooperates fully with a Home Office investigation, the financial penalty might be reduced. This may also be the case for first-time offences.

If a business holds a sponsor licence to employ migrant workers, additional complications can arise. The Home Office may subject the licence to ‘special measures’ or could even suspend or revoke it, causing operational disruptions for both the business and its sponsored employees.

Meanwhile, if a business has multiple sites that each handle their own recruitment, the organisation would only be considered a repeat offender if illegal working is deemed to be a systemic issue within the company’s recruitment practices. If your organisation acquires a new company and employees are transferred under TUPE, there will be a 60-day grace period to ensure all employees are legally employed.

It is crucial to seek legal advice if your business receives a notice of a potential civil penalty, whether you plan to try and mitigate the penalty or challenge it. If you can prove your company was not liable or had a valid statutory excuse, it may be possible to appeal against the penalty; it is also possible to request leniency if the penalty would be unaffordably high for your organisation. As such, a well-supported notice of objection could save a business thousands of pounds.

The potential for criminal sanctions

While the focus often lies on civil penalties, companies should not underestimate the potential for criminal sanctions. Although these are relatively rare occurrences – with only one recorded prosecution between July 2019 and September 2021 – the implications are severe and far-reaching. To secure a criminal conviction, the Crown Prosecution Service must meet the high standard of proving guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt”. This means demonstrating that the employer either knowingly employed an illegal worker, or had reasonable cause to believe that the individual was not authorised to work in the UK.

If the case is escalated to the Crown Court in England and Wales, the employer could face an unlimited fine, a confiscation order to seize assets, and imprisonment for up to five years. Should the case be tried in a Magistrates’ Court, the penalties are slightly less severe but still significant: a fine of up to £5,000 and imprisonment for up to six months. Similar sanctions apply in Scotland.

Individuals within the organisation who hold positions of responsibility – such as directors, managers or company secretaries – can also find themselves personally subject to criminal proceedings. This adds a layer of personal risk for those in leadership roles, making it even more important for businesses to exercise due diligence in employment verification processes.

Legal liability: who bears responsibility?

Determining who bears the responsibility for illegal employment is not always straightforward, especially for companies that may engage a variety of employment types. Generally, the employer who directly hires a worker under any form of contract – be it written, oral or implied – is the one held accountable for ensuring legal employment. This is the baseline rule that most are familiar with.

However, the waters become murkier when a business engages self-employed individuals or freelancers under a contract for services. A common question that arises is whether the company would still be held liable if it fails to conduct the necessary right-to-work checks on these individuals. In our legal view, the answer is yes. The rules define “employment” in a broad manner, encompassing not just traditional paid employment but also unpaid roles, work placements, self-employment and other professional activities. This expansive definition means that businesses cannot afford to overlook any category of worker when conducting right-to-work checks.

How to ensure your workers have a right to work in the UK

For companies that utilise external contractors provided by another organisation, such as a staffing agency, the legal liability for ensuring right-to-work checks generally rests with the agency or organisation supplying the labour. However, while the employer may not be legally liable, it’s considered best practice to confirm that these external contractors have undergone proper right-to-work checks. Failure to do so could expose the company to reputational risks, and could be seen as a lack of due diligence in the eyes of the Home Office, potentially complicating matters in the event of an investigation.

Additionally, UK companies can utilise Identification Document Service Providers (IDSPs) that employ Identification Document Validation Technology (IDVT) to verify the legal status of British and Irish citizens. A positive verification from an IDSP can provide an organisation with a statutory excuse, partially alleviating their liability under the civil penalty scheme.

Overall, any organisation seeking to employ workers from abroad should be aware that the law in this area is complex, in ways that companies cannot afford to overlook. A proactive approach, involving meticulous planning and robust procedures, can save companies from substantial financial and legal repercussions. Treating immigration checks as an afterthought is a risky strategy that can prove to be costly in the long run.

Buying a Log Cabin: Five Aspects to Consider

0

A log cabin adds a lot of charm and personality to your home because it can be transformed into a cosy sitting area, a useful study, or a second office. Whatever your reason for wanting to install a log cabin in your garden, it will undoubtedly be a very good investment. If you plan to buy a cabin to add to your trendy wooden terrace, it is important to consider some elements to ensure that the log cabin fits perfectly with your garden, budget, and desires. To help you get started, we’ll provide you with four major aspects and a few minor ones to keep in mind when buying a log cabin.

Planning Permission

Before you buy a log cabin from https://www.quick-garden.co.uk/log-cabins/, it’s essential to check whether you need a planning permission. Check with your municipality to see if you are allowed to place a garden shed and what conditions (size, height, etc.) it must meet.

Size

You might want to buy the largest log cabin available, but if your garden doesn’t allow it, you may encounter a big problem. The maximum size of your new hut is determined by the size of your garden. Additionally, consider what items and supplies you want to store in the log cabin. If the log cabin will be used for storing your lawnmower, gardening tools, and furniture, it should be larger than if it was only meant for a few tables and chairs. If you plan to use it as a garden office, practice space, or guest room, opt for one of the luxurious and larger log cabins. Such a cabin will be spacious enough for your desk, bed, and more.

Roof

Most people opt for a flat roof because it is the most affordable option. Such a roof ensures good drainage due to a 2% slope. You can make your roof waterproof by adding aluminium foil or roofing felt. If you prefer a sloped roof, go for a pent roof or gable roof, as these roofs also ensure quick water drainage. If you want something more luxurious and unique, consider a roof made of Western Red Cedar or a gambrel roof.

Doors

We recommend choosing a log cabin model with doors that are not prone to getting wet quicker. This will ensure the doors’ durability and maintain the shape of your log cabin, preventing it from shrinking or expanding.

Other Quick Aspects

Finally, let’s touch on smaller aspects that are also crucial when purchasing your log cabin. Consider:

  • Wall thickness: A wall thickness of 28 mm is the most popular choice, but for a log cabin with a longer lifespan, opt for a thickness of 45 mm.
  • Shape: You can choose from a pentagon, square, rectangular, etc., log cabin.
  • Ventilation grille: A log cabin is not complete without a ventilation grille, which allows moisture to escape from your log cabin.
  • Foundation: Our professionals often work with level concrete or tiles because it allows the log cabin to be quickly and properly installed.

By keeping these elements in mind, you can select the ideal log cabin that harmonizes with your garden, budget, and preferences.

Key: Stokes is still committed to England

England managing director Rob Key believes Test captain Ben Stokes is fully committed to international cricket and says his decision to reject a multi-year central contract in favour of a 12-month deal is linked to the next cycle of broadcasting rights.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) revealed today which England players had agreed new deals and there were eyebrows raised by Stokes’ decision to sign for a year. In contrast, former skipper Joe Root, fellow Yorkshire batter Harry Brook and Durham paceman Mark Wood agreed three-year contracts.

Key said Stokes was keeping his options open by aligning his deal with the renewal of the memorandum of understanding between the Professional Cricketers’ Association and the ECB next year which in itself is linked to television deals.

Key told Sky Sports News: “Normally the contracts follow the broadcasting cycle and the next broadcasting cycle starts next year. At that point you can renegotiate and change the way you do contracts.

“So what that means for the multi-year deal guys is that they will be on no less than what they’re on now but next year there may be a different system.

“At the minute there’s a points-scoring system, so you get a certain amount of points for what we think you’re going to do in red-ball cricket, what we think you’re going to do in white-ball cricket, whether that’s T20s or ODIs, but that system might change.

“We don’t know yet what that is. We’re going to work on that as this has taken a while.

“Like with all contracts, Ben will feel that if you’ve got one year you’re in a stronger negotiating position but by no means does it mean that Ben Stokes doesn’t want to play for England.

“He’s captain of our Test team and all he ever talks about is how we can get better. We’re going to meet in bit and talk about the India tour after Christmas, so I wouldn’t read anything into it at all.”

Stokes’ explosive game means he is a natural fit for T20 cricket with new franchise leagues starting up all over the world.

The central contracts do not prevent players taking up lucrative franchise deals, but they do allow the ECB greater oversight on availability.

James Anderson, 41, has signed a one-year deal after indicating he wants to extend his Test career while 19-year-old spinner Rehan Ahmed was the youngest player to agree terms.

Fury warns ‘sausage’ Usyk

Tyson Fury says he will sue “sausage” Oleksandr Usyk if he pulls out of a heavyweight unification bout later this year.

WBC champion Fury, who meets UFC fighter Francis Ngannou this weekend in a crossover fight in Saudi Arabia, is also scheduled to take on Usyk in the Middle East in December – a fight that has been mooted for several years.

The British fighter is desperate to claim Usyk’s WBO, IBO, IBF and WBA titles but there is still a lingering doubt over the clash after the Ukrainian suggested he needs 14 weeks to get in shape.

Fury told Sky Sports: “Usyk’s a sausage. I expect it to be taking place in December, that’s what I’ve been told, so I’ve got no reason to disbelieve it.

“Usyk has to fight me in December, doesn’t have a choice.

“He signed the contract, so if he doesn’t, he’s breached the contract and he gets sued. So he doesn’t really have a choice.”

Usyk is expected to be ringside for the Ngannou fight but Fury is taking one opponent at a time.

He told Mail Sport: “It’s not about him. This is the Tyson Fury show. It’s about me and Francis Ngannou.

“The African King is meeting the Gypsy King and you know, we are throwing it down. So, anything that happens after that, happens after that and anything before that, is not important.”

Top occasions to gift floral surprises

Bouquets of flowers are often the unsung heroes of gift-giving, coming to the rescue when we can’t think of anything else.

The beauty of this gesture is that you can also send blooms online, making it easier than ever to express your sentiments.

But there’s an art to it – selecting the appropriate gift occasions and the gorgeous posies can make all the difference. Let’s explore eight memorable festivities when petals prove to be the best-ever present.

Wedding

Weddings are undeniably synonymous with grandeur and opulence, where lavish celebrations and extravagant details often take centre stage.

However, amidst the sea of extravagant gifts and glittering adornments, there lies an opportunity to stand out and make an indelible impression with a seemingly modest yet profoundly elegant bouquet.

The choice of flowers is crucial in this art, and peonies, with their soft, fluffy petals, emerge as a symbol of enduring marital happiness.

Housewarming party

Housewarming parties are typically occasions where practical gifts like kitchen gadgets, decorative items, or household essentials take over.

While these presents undoubtedly serve a purpose in helping the new homeowners settle into their abode, there’s an exceptional opportunity to leave an enduring impression by offering a thing that carries both beauty and symbolism.

In the sea of kitchenware and home decor, a floral bundle stands out as a symbol of warmth and goodwill. It  transcends utility, speaking directly to the emotions and the heart of the celebration. Daffodils and daisies emerge as beacons of hope and new beginnings. Their vibrant and cheerful blooms encapsulate the essence of starting a fresh chapter in one’s life.

Retirement

Retirement signals the end of an extended and rewarding professional voyage. Honour this milestone with a blooms mix that mirrors the retiree’s radiant prospects.

An affectionate message such as “May your upcoming adventures be as vibrant as these blooms” can inject a personalised touch into the gesture.

Anniversary

To make a wedding anniversary memorable, consider gifting type of flowers for bouquet with unique fragrances that speak the language of romance.

Roses, with their classic and passionate scent, are a classic choice symbolising love and affection. Jasmine, known for its delicate and alluring aroma, embodies the sweet, subtle moments that define a lasting partnership. Lilies, with their graceful fragrance, convey purity and the elegance of your commitment. And, lavender, a fragrant herb reminiscent of calm and tranquility, offers a soothing presence to your celebration.

Birthday

Birthdays are the annual celebrations of life, and they are synonymous with pure joy and boundless cheerfulness. It’s that one day of the year where the world seems to be painted in the brightest hues, and smiles are in abundance.

To enhance this special day, petals emerge as the outstanding companions. With their vibrant colours and natural beauty, they have the remarkable ability to infuse an extra dose of delight into the festivities.

Sunflowers, with their large and sunny faces, are like rays of happiness captured in petals. They exude positivity and are known to lift spirits instantly. Orchids, with their exotic allure, add an element of elegance and luxury to the celebration, creating an atmosphere of sophistication and beauty. Hydrangeas, with their clusters of blossoms in various shades, bring a sense of abundance and gratitude, which is welcome for commemorating another year of life.

Job promotion

A promotion is a career milestone that signifies not only professional growth but also personal achievement. It’s a moment that brims with mixed emotions – the excitement of new opportunities, the pride of accomplishments, and sometimes a touch of nervousness about the responsibilities that lie ahead.

In the language of flowers, daisies, calla lilies, and daffodils are symbols of fresh beginnings and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Daisies, with their unpretentious charm and purity, convey the essence of innocence and a clean slate, making them a brilliant choice for someone stepping into a new role. Calla lilies, known for their graceful curves and pristine beauty, evoke the idea of sophistication and refined beginnings, akin to the honoree’s career progression. Daffodils, with their bright and sunny disposition, radiate positivity and optimism, much like the journey that lies ahead for the person being promoted.

City dedicate training pitch to birthday boy Gundogan

Manchester City today marked Ilkay Gundogan’s 33rd birthday by dedicating a training pitch to their former captain.

Gundogan skippered City to their first Champions League crown in June, the culmination of a seven-year spell at the club that also saw him win five Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups.

The German left for Barcelona in the summer but is still held in high regard at City and a mosaic with Gundogan’s name now adorns one of the pitches at the club’s Etihad Campus.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “On behalf of His Highness Sheikh Mansour, on behalf of everyone associated with Manchester City, it is really my privilege and honour to unveil this mosaic that is a tribute to every accomplishment you’ve made as part of this Manchester City family over the years.

“You have been an important leader, an important pillar of a part of history – of the history of this club that will never be forgotten.

“We are all so grateful, so thankful for the great memories you gave us – as the first Manchester City captain to lift the Champions League, as a player that’s lifted five Premier Leagues, so many trophies as part of his journey with the club.

“But beyond these great accomplishments as a football player, your accomplishments as a leader, both in the club and in the community is never going to be forgotten.

“Today I want to thank you on behalf of everyone associated with the club and this mosaic is our gift to you to keep you part of the history of this club, of this institution, a place that you can come and always know that you have left an important stamp that will be never forgotten.”
