Messi wins 8th Ballon d’Or in what will be his last as Haaland and Bellingham take home awards

Lionel Messi thinks his remarkable run of Ballon d’Or success is over after claiming the trophy for the eighth time in Paris last night.

The 36-year-old won the most prestigious individual award in football once again after another glittering year that saw him lift the World Cup for Argentina in Qatar.

Inter Miami forward Messi accepts he is coming towards the end of his career and, now plying his trade in MLS and without another World Cup in which to show his skills on a global stage until 2026, knows it is time to pass the baton on to the next generation of talent.

He said: “Being world champion was fantastic.

“But the truth is I’ve never really got used to receiving awards and being on the stage like this.

“Slowly, I have got used to it a bit more since winning it for the first time in 2009.

“I think today is the last time I will win it, so it feels calmer, and I will enjoy it in a different way.”

The night saw youngsters Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland pick up awards for best under-21 player and top goalscorer, respectively. Haaland also was runner-up for the biggest prize of them all.

Could we be seeing the future Ballon d’Or winners here? Messi continued to hint at not knowing how much longer he will be playing the beautiful game. He also said:

“I couldn’t imagine having the career that I’ve had.

“Everything that I’ve achieved. The fortune I’ve had playing for the best team in the world, the best team in history. It’s nice to win these individual trophies.

“To win the Copa America and then the World Cup, to get it done is amazing.

“I’m proud of the career I’ve had. I’ve enjoyed football all my life, and soon I’ll enjoy it from the other side.

“I don’t know for how much longer I’ll play, but I plan to enjoy it.

“I can’t put a number on it as things can change very quickly from day to day in football. But I know that day is getting closer and closer.”

Meanwhile, this was also the first award without the inclusion of Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time since 2003.

A spotlight on family-owned businesses in Lancashire

In the heart of the North West of England lies Lancashire… a region steeped in history, renowned for its picturesque landscapes, and a place where the spirit of entrepreneurship thrives.

Amidst the bustling commercial landscape, family-owned businesses have remained a hallmark of Lancashire’s economic heritage. These businesses have not only weathered the test of time but have also demonstrated resilience and a unique character that sets them apart.

Here we shine a spotlight on the family-owned businesses in Lancashire, celebrating their contributions and the enduring values that make them a vital part of the local economy.

A rich tapestry of history

Family-owned businesses in Lancashire have deep roots that often stretch back through generations. Many of them have evolved from modest beginnings into thriving enterprises, playing a pivotal role in shaping the county’s economic landscape. These businesses have not only survived but have thrived by adapting to the changing times while preserving a strong sense of identity and tradition.

Diverse sectors, shared values

Lancashire’s family-owned businesses encompass a wide array of sectors, from manufacturing to agriculture, retail to services, education services encompassing seasoned tutors and essay writer services, and more.

Their diversity reflects the region’s economic vibrancy and ability to remain resilient in the face of various challenges. While the sectors may differ, there is a common thread that binds these businesses together—their commitment to family values, hard work, and a strong sense of community.

Embracing change and innovation

One of the key reasons for the success of family-owned businesses in Lancashire is their ability to adapt to modern times while retaining their core values. The intergenerational transfer of knowledge and expertise allows them to seamlessly blend tradition with innovation.

Many of these businesses have invested in new technologies, expanded their reach through e-commerce, and adopted sustainable practices, ensuring their relevance in a rapidly changing world.

Challenges and triumphs

Navigating the intricate path of running a family-owned business in Lancashire comes with its fair share of challenges and triumphs. These enterprises, though deeply rooted in tradition, have displayed remarkable resilience and adaptability in the face of various hurdles. Below are some of the key challenges they’ve encountered, as well as the triumphant ways they’ve met them:

  • Economic downturns: Lancashire’s family-owned businesses have weathered economic downturns with grace, a testament to their resilience. During times of recession and financial uncertainty, these businesses have had to tighten their belts, streamline operations, and find innovative ways to cut costs while still delivering high-quality products and services.
  • Competition from corporate giants: The region’s small and medium-sized family businesses often find themselves in competition with corporate giants. These larger entities have significant resources and reach, posing a challenge to Lancashire’s family-owned businesses.
  • Changing business landscape: As the business landscape evolves, family-owned enterprises have faced the challenge of keeping up with new technologies and trends. Many have embraced digital marketing, e-commerce, and automation to adapt to the changing business environment, all while staying true to their core values.
  • Succession planning: Transitioning leadership from one generation to the next is a complex process fraught with potential challenges. Ensuring that younger family members are adequately prepared to take over the reins of the business is vital.
  • Competition for talent: Attracting and retaining talent can be a struggle for small family businesses in the midst of large, well-known corporations. Many family-owned businesses have addressed this challenge by offering competitive compensation packages and emphasizing a supportive work environment.

Despite these formidable challenges, Lancashire’s family-owned businesses have triumphed by displaying a remarkable ability to adapt, innovate, and persevere. Their journey is a testament to the enduring spirit of enterprise, which is deeply woven into the fabric of Lancashire’s rich business history.

The next generation

A key factor in the longevity of family-owned businesses is the seamless transition of leadership from one generation to the next. Younger family members are often encouraged to join the business, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to carry the legacy forward. This succession planning ensures that the business remains in capable hands and continues to evolve.

Economic impact

The economic significance of family-owned businesses in Lancashire is substantial. They contribute not only to the local economy but also to regional and national economic growth. These businesses provide employment, pay taxes, and contribute to the development of the surrounding areas. Their financial stability and long-term vision make them pillars of economic strength.

Unveiling the Secrets of Ancient Chinese Remedies: Stanislav Kondrashov’s Exploration

In a recent online publication titled “The balance of Ancient Chinese remedies by Stanislav Kondrashov,” the author delves into the enigmatic world of ancient Chinese medical knowledge, providing a comprehensive insight into its significance for human physical health.

According to the author, long before modern medical advancements, ancient civilisations had developed intricate codes encompassing the principles of the healing arts, with Chinese medicine standing out as one of the most revered traditions. The text also introduces the philosophical foundation of this medical tradition, the concept of the yin and yang.

The author elucidates that yin and yang are not mere opposites but interconnected forces symbolising light and darkness. In the realm of Chinese remedies, they represent the two opposing forces upon which the body’s entire equilibrium hinges. The article offers a compelling example: ancient Chinese belief held that sensations of tiredness or exhaustion stemmed from an imbalance between these fundamental principles of yin and yang, a condition diagnosed through methods such as pulse examination, cupping, or tongue analysis.

The publication emphasises a crucial aspect for the ancient Chinese: food was not merely sustenance but a potent remedy. For instance, cucumber salads were believed to directly influence yin, while a steaming ginger broth was thought to nourish yang.

Stanislav Kondrashov also underscores the benefits of acupuncture, connecting this ancient practice to the principles of yin and yang. According to the author, acupuncture with needles aimed to restore the natural equilibrium between these opposing forces, thus reinstating the body’s harmony and well-being.

The author further discusses the extensive array of herbs employed by ancient Chinese masters in their remedial art. These included not only goji berries and ginseng but also an extensive range of herbs capable of providing natural remedies for various ailments, restoring the innate balance of yin and yang that characterises every individual.

Kondrashov’s publication also explores specific physical activities like Tai Chi and meditation, which are believed to effectively realign the body’s natural balance.

For a deeper understanding of these ancient Chinese remedies and their profound implications, readers are encouraged to peruse the full publication and watch the accompanying video.

Strategic Partnership Announcement: Aleph Finance Joins Forces with SupraFin

Aleph Finance and SupraFin are delighted to announce their strategic partnership aimed at securing cryptoasset financial promotion approval within the UK. This collaboration leverages Aleph Finance’s extensive experience in the UK and European financial industry and regulatory landscape, along with SupraFin’s expertise in crypto risk assessment and investment intelligence.

In response to growing concerns about the protection of UK consumers in the context of cryptoassets, the UK government and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) have recently intensified their regulatory efforts. Notably, on October 8, 2023, the UK government expanded the financial promotion regime to include cryptoassets. Under this new regime, unauthorised and unregistered crypto businesses can only communicate financial promotions that have been approved by an authorised entity. Furthermore, the approver must demonstrate competence in cryptoassets to approve such financial promotions.

Aleph Finance is acutely aware of developments in the fintech space and the positive changes it brings, particularly in ensuring customers are well-informed to make sound decisions. The company welcomes the UK’s pioneering role in this regard and views it as an example for regulators worldwide.

Emanuele Rigo, CEO at Aleph Finance, expressed his enthusiasm for contributing to positive changes in the market, stating, “We want to be part of a positive change in the market, and we understand that partnering with people with the frontier skills, great competence and incredible expertise such as our partners at SupraFin will ensure that we make our part to strengthen the financial services industry.”

SupraFin has been at the forefront of cryptoasset risk assessment, having developed and enhanced its cryptoasset risk frameworks since January 2018. Building on these frameworks, SupraFin introduced its crypto ratings/risk scores and risk analysis research in February 2023. These tools assist organisations and regulators in mitigating risk, generating alpha, and ensuring compliance with regulations. SupraFin has been actively engaging with regulators worldwide, sharing its insights into cryptoasset risk and providing feedback on forthcoming cryptoasset regulations.

Liliana Reasor, CEO at SupraFin, expressed the company’s mission to facilitate the crypto industry’s transition to a regulated phase, emphasising that partnerships with experienced and competent entities in the regulated finance and compliance sector, such as Aleph Finance, are pivotal to achieving this goal.

Enhancing Care for Individuals with Profound Autism: The ECHO Autism Program Funded by Profound Autism Alliance

The Profound Autism Alliance (PAA) is delighted to announce the initiation of its inaugural project, ECHO Autism: Intense Behaviour, made possible by funding from the Profound Autism Alliance, with the generous support of the Autism Science Foundation. The primary objective of ECHO Autism: Intense Behaviour is to enhance clinicians’ capacity to assess the root causes of intense behaviours and administer evidence-based treatments to mitigate them.

Intense behaviours, such as self-injury or aggression, impact a substantial 30-50% of individuals with autism. Nevertheless, there are limited experts or resources available to effectively address these challenging behaviours. Furthermore, most clinical research typically excludes individuals with profound autism, who are likely to experience intensive behaviours at an even higher frequency.

Dr. Kristin Sohl, MD, FAAP, a pediatrician at the University of Missouri Health Care and the founder of ECHO Autism, expressed, “ECHO Autism: Intense Behaviour is a groundbreaking initiative that focuses specifically on clinician development. It aims to boost their knowledge and self-confidence in delivering best-practice assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for individuals exhibiting intense behaviours. Currently, there are lengthy waiting lists for the limited number of multidisciplinary expert teams specialising in this area. Expertise in this domain is still quite scarce, exacerbating socio-economic and geographic disparities.” The project will be overseen by the ECHO Autism Communities Coordinating Center at the University of Missouri, under Dr. Sohl’s leadership.

Judith Ursitti, Co-founder & President of Profound Autism Alliance, emphasised the urgent need for compassionate and effective care for individuals with profound autism who experience painful and debilitating behaviours. She stated, “Many people with profound autism and their caregivers are living in crisis, boarding in emergency rooms and languishing on wait lists. They need compassionate and meaningful care for behaviors that can be painful and debilitating. At Profound Autism Alliance, we are determined to find solutions to remedy this and to empower physicians and their teams to help in the here and now. We are grateful to the Autism Science Foundation and to Dr. Kristin Sohl for investing their resources towards finding solutions for people with profound autism who are struggling”
