Luke Littler hits nine-darter on triumphant PDC ProTour debut

Luke Littler hit a brilliant nine-darter en route to a triumphant PDC ProTour debut on Monday, winning his first Players Championship event in Wigan.

Littler has been credited with reviving mainstream interest in darts after enjoying a dream run to the final of the PDC World Championship over the festive season.

He was beaten by Luke Humphries in the showpiece game at Alexandra Palace, but he has gone from strength to strength since then, overcoming Michael van Gerwen to win the Bahrain Masters last month before making his Premier League Darts debut.

On Monday, the 17-year-old beat Jim Williams 6-1 in the first round of the Players Championship event, teeing up a meeting with Michele Turetta in the last 32.

Littler raced into a 5-1 lead in that match before clinching victory in style with his second nine-darter of the season, having previously produced a perfect leg against Nathan Aspinall in Bahrain in January.

The teenager almost repeated the trick in his subsequent last-16 clash with Cameron Menzies, missing double 12 for another perfect leg in a 6-2 success.

But Littler did make more headlines later that day, seeing off James Hurrell 6-3 in the quarter-finals before a final-leg decider saw him past Scotland’s Alan Soutar in the last four.

That victory teed up a final clash with Ryan Searle, and Littler posted an average of 110 as he took the showpiece match by an 8-7 scoreline in a deciding leg.

Littler moved up to 31st in the PDC’s world rankings as a result of his stunning run to the World Championship final, and his success in Wigan could help him climb further up the rankings as points are not awarded for the World Series and Premier League events he has featured in recently.

India crisis worsens with KL Rahul to miss third England Test

KL Rahul will miss this week’s third Test between India and England due to a knee injury, adding to the hosts’ selection issues after Virat Kohli withdraw from their squad.

After losing a dramatic opening Test in Hyderabad, India hit back to level the five-match series with a 106-run win in the second Test in Visakhapatnam.

They did so without Rahul after he sustained a quadricep injury. He was then included in the hosts’ squad for the final three matches of the series, but on Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed a separate issue will keep him out of the third match.

Alonso mocks Hamilton’s Ferrari claims

In a statement, the BCCI said Rahul had reached “90 per cent of match fitness” but would not be able to play any part when the third Test begins on Thursday.

Uncapped left-hander Devdutt Padikkal has been called up as a replacement, though India are hopeful of having Rahul available for the final two matches of the series.

In the short term, Rahul’s absence comes as a major blow for the hosts, who saw former captain Kohli withdraw from their squad for the rest of the series due to personal reasons last week.

Fellow batter Shreyas Iyer was not selected in the 17-man squad picked for the remainder of the series, while Ravindra Jadeja is currently battling a hamstring injury.

Should Jadeja fail to prove his fitness, 23-year-old Padikkal and fellow uncapped batter Sarfaraz Khan could have key roles to play in Rajkot.

Padikkal started off as an opener before transitioning to a middle-order role, and he is set to team up with Rahul for the 2024 Indian Premier League season after his trade to Lucknow Super Giants.

Alonso mocks Hamilton’s Ferrari claims

Fernando Alonso has questioned Lewis Hamilton’s claim that it was his “childhood dream” to drive for Ferrari.

Hamilton has agreed to move to the Italian marque when his contract at Mercedes expires at the end of the season.

He spoke in glowing terms of Ferrari, but Alonso said he was surprised he’d not heard of Hamilton’s childhood ambitions before.

The Spaniard said: “It was not his childhood dream 12 months ago? Or two months ago, I guess. It was a different dream.”

Despite his cynicism, Alonso, who drove for Ferrari between 2010 and 2014, hopes the Briton can help the team back to the top of the podium, adding: “I hope he enjoys the experience. I think it’s a very special team. But it’s more special when you win…

“It’s few years already [since] they have a very fast car and they were fighting for big things.

“Maybe Lewis can bring that extra to fight for the championship because the car is there.”

Hamilton’s departure means there is a vacancy that needs to be filled at Mercedes. Two-time world champion Alonso has seemingly thrown his hat in the ring, although he claims his primary focus is to renew at Aston Martin when his deal runs out in 2024.

The 42-year-old said: “I am aware of my situation which is unique. There are only three world champions on the grid and I am the only one available for 2025, so I am in a good position.

“On a move to Mercedes, there has been nothing at all. I know the driver market has started earlier this year, but this will not affect me in terms of preparing for the season.

“If I want to keep racing beyond this year, the first and only talk at the beginning will be Aston Martin. I trust this project and that will be my first priority.

“But if we cannot reach an agreement I know that I am attractive to other teams. I will not stay in Formula One just to have fun. I am not that kind of person and not that kind of driver. Let’s see what the options are.”

Ways in which businesses in Manchester can entice and keep the most skilled workers in the United Kingdom

0

The city of Manchester serves as a centre for thriving native and international brands. Consider the Boohoo brand as a top-level global business operation. Manchester has a lot to offer that will entice the most talented people in the sector. On the other hand, there are plenty more things that businesses in Manchester can do in order to compete with cities such as London and attract and hire talented individuals. Here is some actionable advice that will assist in the creation of the most successful team possible.

Incentives and expressions of gratitude

A culture that practises gratitude towards its team can go a long way. Recognise accomplishments, no matter how big or how small. In addition to monetary benefits, cultivating a culture in which every individual is made to feel important and appreciated for their efforts and victories is a great way to foster appreciation and maximise the production of staff members.

Creating a Workplace That Is Full of Life

It is in everyone’s best interest to put in a lot of effort to make the atmosphere more than just comfortable. It is important to promote inclusiveness, support, and engagement. Put an emphasis on your mission, and make the workplace a place where excitement and collaboration are encouraged. If the culture of your organisation is one that people look forward to being a part of, then they are less likely to look elsewhere for employment.. A pleasant environment is contagious, and it results in long-term loyalty as well as a terrific team that genuinely cares about the companies success.

Rewarding Compensation and Benefits for the Employee

The extras are just as important as the excellent income that you receive. In 2024, the highest possible salary is no longer enough to win over the most talented people in the field. Additionally, they are searching for additional amenities, such as access to a gym and health benefits. Also, keep in mind the need of having flexible working schedules in order to maintain a healthy balance in your life. Now that things are getting more innovative, such as finishing work at three o’clock on Fridays, you should consider what does make sense for your firm because providing these incentives might have a really beneficial impact on productivity.

Events hosted by the company to foster engagement and collaboration

By hosting extraordinary company gatherings in Manchester, you can take advantage of the city’s lively atmosphere. These events are ideal for fostering a sense of team spirit and collaboration, and they also contribute to maintaining a high level of excitement and morale. Creating an event is not a simple task; thus, if you are having trouble figuring out where to start, we strongly suggest that you seek expertise. The Chameleon Events Agency in Manchester is amongst the most trusted Virtual Event organisers in Manchester. If you want to see the action for yourself, you are more than welcome to take a peek at their selection of hybrid events.

Possibilities for Professional Advancement

Offering possibilities for advancement is quite important. In order to assist your staff in reaching new heights, you should provide training and coaching. The retention of outstanding talent is ensured by the existence of clear pathways for progression. Everyone has the desire to improve and advance, and our best recommendation in this regard is to organise regular catchups with your team, during which you should establish goals and roadmaps. People remain focused and continue to work towards reaching their full potential as a result of this.

Acceptance of a Progressive Way of Thinking

There is nothing more depressing than a business that is still operating in the 1950s. The latest developments in data technology are quite intriguing, particularly for the most talented individuals in Generation Z. Keeping oneself ahead of the curve by embracing emerging innovations such as artificial intelligence should be a priority. It is important to encourage conversations about new technologies and to examine the ways in which you can utilise technology to improve your job, develop more efficient procedures, and gain an advantage over your competitors. If you fall behind, your team will search elsewhere for opportunities, therefore it is important to keep moving forward and to keep your best players motivated.

Work that is flexible for everyone

The way of life and well-being of employees should be taken into account by enterprises in a fair manner. This is, without a doubt, within the bounds of reasonableness, and the prospects of this happening vary from company to company. When it comes to industry talent, flexible working hours are a significant factor. When it comes to work arrangements, a give-and-take strategy can dramatically enhance both job happiness and loyalty inside an organisation. If you provide your employees with the best possible career structure, it will be extremely unlikely that they are urged to take the chances offered by competitors.

Communication that is both consistent and clear across the entire company

is significant in order to keep the lines of communication open with relation to the company’s goals, expectations, and corporate vision. This includes the desirable, the undesirable, and the ugly ( Full transparency is important here). Alert your colleagues that the company has achieved a significant victory and express your gratitude to them. In the event that you are not quite meeting your aims, communicate this to them in a constructive manner, form a group, and establish a North Star goal that you can all work towards achieving together. After all, nobody wants to have the experience of being simply a corporate number.

Wrapping up

By leveraging these tips, you have the potential to dramatically increase the attractiveness of your company to both new and existing employees. Keep in mind that the people who work for a company are the centre of its success; therefore, it is necessary to cultivate a work culture that is both innovative and encouraging. Your Manchester-based company will have the best possible odds of attracting and retaining the most talented individuals if you embrace some of these best practices going forward.

Raducanu beaten in Qatar as struggles continue

Emma Raducanu admitted to “struggling with everything” as she made an early exit from the Qatar Open today following a 6-0 7-6 (8/6) defeat to Anhelina Kalinina.

Raducanu’s return from wrist and ankle surgeries is still in its infancy, although the results since her return have not been great with three wins in four tournaments.

A woeful first-set display in Doha set the tone for the defeat to Kalinina while she also wasted the chance to take it to a third when serving at 6-5 in the tie-break.

“I was struggling with everything – serve, return, forehand, backhand,” former US Open champion Raducanu told Sky Sports.

“I felt like I never really got into it.”

Asked why she had performed so poorly, especially early on, she added: “It was combination of things.

“It was my first day match I have played in a year. That is different.

“I need to practise training outside a bit more. The lights, conditions, shadows… it is really hard to see the ball, I found towards the end.

“When my tennis isn’t there I have to try and at least fight and I did that in the second set.”

Having been off the WTA Tour for most of 2023, the 21-year-old admitted she was finding it hard to regain the relentlessness required to compete week in, week out.

“It is hard for me to get used to the tour schedule. It is one tournament then another straight away,” she said.

“I need to schedule my tournaments a bit better and try to get more matches under my belt.”

EPOS case studies: Success stories from takeaway businesses

Let’s be real – nowadays, everyone is all about on-demand everything. From streaming the latest shows to binge-watch nonstop to summoning an Uber ride across town in minutes, immediate digital convenience is what we expect.

And tasty takeout is no exception. More and more, busy consumers want to tap an app, customise an order, and have a hot meal delivered soon without any hassle.

For local takeout spots and food delivery services trying to make that lightning-fast experience happen, keeping up with all those digital orders in a speedy and accurate way has been a major challenge. Until now, that is!

Enter the recent wave of next-generation order processing systems that are totally transforming the behind-the-scenes operations of takeout businesses. We’re talking streamlined order flow, inventory done right, insights galore – the kind of tech upgrades that completely change the game.

These digital saviors come in the form of EPOS systems, which stands for Electronic Point of Sale. EPOS integrates all the vital components of running an online and in-person takeout operation, from order management to payment processing to inventory tracking and beyond. And the data smarts allow customisation and forecasting like never before possible.

Many takeout owners are calling EPOS implementation the best business decision they’ve ever made. Let’s check out some real-life local shops and delivery joints that are absolutely dominating the market after making the switch. Maybe their EPOS success stories will inspire you to take your takeout operation to the next level too!

A pizza place with lightning deliveries

Takeaway X built a solid following for its drool-worthy artisanal pizza pies after opening up downtown a few years back. But as word spread, foot traffic and online pie orders skyrocketed to the point where the small staff was totally overwhelmed. The high volume of requests coming in would frequently lead to errors that delayed orders by over an hour. Understandably, many impatient customers fumed over cold, incorrect pies.

The restaurant knew they had to overhaul the way they processed orders pronto before they lost more regulars. By implementing a cutting-edge EPOS system, the Takeaway X squad has their operations running like an award-winning pizzeria should. Now the various digital order channels like the website, delivery apps, and social platforms all automatically sync together so staff have total visibility. No more confusion double orders!

The team can swiftly process each order with precision, get pies promptly in the oven, and optimise delivery routes to reduce transit time. Integrating delivery tracking lets customers watch their pizza journey to their door, while staff stay on top of all drivers to minimize any delays. Thanks to their operational transformation, Takeaway X bounced back in popularity with shorter wait times, hotter pies, and way happier customers. A deliciously successful order system makeover!

Burgers with a personal touch

Local favourite Burger Haven already had their patrons hooked on the mouthwatering flavors they were flipping up fresh daily. But the owners wanted to take the customer experience to the next level by making their loyal regulars feel special. The challenge was how to make such a personalized experience possible when customers mainly ordered through an online food ordering system uk without much direct staff interaction.

That’s why they decided to implement an advanced EPOS system that went beyond food ordering to gather customer data through a linked loyalty program. Now staff have insights into individual order histories – like Jessica always gets extra pickles and Kenny loves to try weekly specials. Those preferences and past purchases allow Burger Haven to send tailored promotions or product suggestions to delight returning patrons.

VIPs feel their needs are prioritized and keep coming back while also spending more. For the business, the richer customer profiles and purchase analytics help them shape menu options and specials to have the hottest sellers Burgers Haven has seen yet. Talk about flipping the customer experience upside down in the best way possible!

Inventory insights for cost savings

For Indian restaurant Curry Express, their aromatic dishes had no issues drawing in crowds of loyal foodies. The problem was instead behind-the-scenes with inventory management. Without visibility into current ingredient stocks and expiration dates, they struggled with both overstocking certain items while unexpectedly running out of others.

All those unused extras that got tossed plus emergency ingredient orders were bleeding money. Their new EPOS system implementing inventory tracking functionality completely transformed how Curry Express shops, stocks, and budgets. Now the system provides real-time visibility into all ingredient supply levels and upcoming expiration dates.

It can automatically reorder the masala and naan flour before stock gets dangerously low. Or prompt staff about prepared sauces that need to get used up first before they go bad. With costs optimised and less waste, Curry Express is serving up bigger profit margins along with all those rich curries.

Adapting menus to what’s trending

In the fast-changing food business, delivery service Takeout Trends knew they needed to keep up with the latest viral ingredients and offerings to attract consumers hungry for what’s new and now. But attempting to manually revamp menus, establish partnerships with emerging brands, and market seasonal specials was a constant struggle.

With their staff always stretched thin just coordinating existing orders, they lacked the bandwidth to continually refresh offerings and tactics to hit trends at scale. That package of limitations changed for the better when Takeout Trends implemented an advanced EPOS system.

Now when they want to test out an offering like aquatic tacos or matcha lava cake for a limited-time menu, instantly updating online ordering menus and materials takes just minutes rather than days. The order volume and sales data they can easily analyse provides instant feedback on what consumers crave most. Plus customer info makes targeted marketing around popular items and personalised incentives a breeze.

Wherever the food trend winds blow next, Takeout Trends is set up to swiftly shift offerings and operations to catch the wave right as it breaks.

Compliance without compromise

As a trendy street food vendor, Street Bites had to step up safety practices and data protection to meet legal industry compliance requirements around food handling and customer privacy. But since operations ran mainly through quick in-person cash payments and paper orders, tracking ingredients precisely or securing customer data seemed next to impossible.

Missing key regulations could put the business at risk. By implementing a modern EPOS Ordering System, Street Bites now has data safeguards and digitised tracking that keeps customers safe without compromising convenience. Robust order encryption, access controls, detailed inventory monitoring, and other security features help ensure compliance. Now the funky food stand can focus on dishing out delicious bites with confidence rather than trying to decipher regulation requirements.

AI tech will transform takeout even further

Emerging innovations like AI, machine learning, and augmented reality will allow EPOS systems to get even smarter – processing orders with no errors in seconds or letting customers see menu items in 3D. Mobile upgrades will make quick-service commerce available literally everywhere a customer wanders so businesses can capture profits. Voice ordering via chatbots will be the next wave of frictionless transactions.

And as systems get better at predicting trends and advising strategies based on rich collected data, establishments can completely customize every aspect of offerings and marketing messages to hyper-personalised levels.

Takeout will only get faster and businesses will only get sharper about delivering exactly what customers want before they even ask. The owners who get on board with adopting cutting-edge tech first will have a huge competitive advantage as the industry keeps advancing.

The takeaway on takeout success

For any pizza place, burger joint, curry café, food truck, delivery service or other takeaway establishment looking to thrive in the age of instant gratification, implementing a high-tech EPOS solution is now an operational must. The proof is in the profits and five-star reviews seen by these local shops.

Choosing a platform that tackles your biggest obstacles around order accuracy, speedy service, inventory management or hyper personalization can seriously change the entire customer and business trajectory for the better.

Of course, not all solutions are created equal, so do your research to find the right fit. But the restaurant reality is that antiquated order pads and paper ticket systems can’t cut it anymore. The right upgrades offer a chance to dominate the increasing on-demand food scene. So whether you run a single storefront, a small local chain, or an ambitious delivery app service – consider the case made!

Kelvin Kiptum: Coe leads tributes to marathon star

World Athletics president Seb Coe has led the tributes to marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum, who was killed in a road traffic accident in his native Kenya on Sunday.

Kiptum, who was 24, died alongside his coach Gervais Hakizimana following a crash on a road in the west of the country at about 8pm UK time last night. A third passenger is in hospital.

Kiptum set the fastest ever time in the marathon in Chicago last October, running two hours and 35 seconds to better the mark set by countryman Eliud Kipchoge.

His death was announced on X by Kenyan member of parliament Gideon Kimaiyo, who wrote: “It is with heavy hearts that we learn of the passing of Kelvin Kiptum, the world marathon record holder, and his coach in a tragic accident along the Eldoret-Kaptagat road.

“Kelvin Kiptum was at the prime of his career, a legend in his own right. It’s a tough one to take.

“Our thoughts are with their families during this incredibly difficult time. The people of Keiyo South are saddened by this loss. May their souls rest in eternal peace.”

Coe said, also on X: “We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the devastating loss of Kelvin Kiptum and his coach, Gervais Hakizimana.

“On behalf of all World Athletics we send our deepest condolences to their families, friends, teammates and the Kenyan nation.

“It was only earlier this week in Chicago, the place where Kelvin set his extraordinary marathon World Record, that I was able to officially ratify his historic time.

“An incredible athlete leaving an incredible legacy, we will miss him dearly.”

Kiptum also broke the course record at the London Marathon in 2023.

Race director Hugo Brasher said: “Kelvin had the sport of marathon running in his feet and at his feet. He was a ‘once in a generation’ athlete who was set to redefine the boundaries of our sport. Three marathons, three wins.

“The fastest marathon debutant in Valencia, London’s course record holder and the world record holder in Chicago, all within the space of less than 12 months. His was a flame that burned so bright and last night was
tragically put out.

“As a sport we mourn for a life so tragically cut short, a talent and a work ethos that was only starting to be appreciated and a man that we had only just started to know.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends and those of his coach Gervais.

“We hope that Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei, who was travelling with them, makes a full and speedy recovery.”

Man United: Villa and Spurs ‘worried’ by Premier League table, says Roy Keane

Roy Keane says Aston Villa and Tottenham will be “worried” by Manchester United’s improved form after Erik ten Hag’s side beat the Villans to give their hopes of qualifying for the Uefa Champions League a lift.

Scott McTominay’s 86th-minute header closed the gap between United and fifth-placed Villa to five points as the visitors won 2-1 at Villa Park.

Fifth place in the Premier League is likely to be enough for a Champions League spot in 2024/25, and United are a further point behind fourth-placed Spurs after a third successive top-flight victory.

“It’s a big win,” said former United captain Keane. “It’s a huge, huge goal for Manchester United.

“They’ve got that momentum. The teams above them – particularly Villa and Tottenham – will be worried. They’re scoring goals and the signs look better than they did a couple of months ago.”

Man United must ‘catch up’ – Ten Hag

United endured a poor first half of the season but are unbeaten in six matches in all competitions since a 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest on December 30, although they were also five points shy of fifth at that point.

Their performances have not been entirely convincing, including a draw with Spurs, a last-gasp win at Wolves and a scare at fourth-tier Newport County in the FA Cup.

“We have to catch up,” Ten Hag said of the Premier League table. “We’ve known for a long time that we got ourselves in this situation.

“There are many games to play but we are returning. There is a long way to go and we have to play our game.

“We have to go from game to game. We can’t lay back. When we were winning the game, we gave away the initiative.

“We wanted to stay on the front foot, keep the initiative and score a second goal. The spirit is there and we kept the belief to get the win.”

Ten Hag praised McTominay as an “example for many other players nowadays” after the midfielder scored shortly after entering as a substitute.

“There are not many players who can come off the bench and bring this energy,” he said. “He is ready for every minute – always contributing.

“Football is a team sport and we often forget that. Scott is always giving the spirit. In the week, when he is training, he is… always doing the right things, working on himself, giving the max.

“He’s ready for one minute or 90 minutes. It’s great to have such a player.”
