Bury Transport Museum celebrates record-breaking year

A host of new exhibits helped The Bury Transport Museum at East Lancashire Railway smash its visitor record in 2023.

Train enthusiasts from all over the country flocked to see the iconic 2500 Tilbury Tank and Hudswell Clarke locomotive Vesta fresh from the former Penrhyn Castle collection on display for the first time.

These star attractions saw the museum welcome 13% more visitors than the previous year, with almost 12,000 people passing through the doors.

Those who have booked on to the Legends of Steam event on March 15-17 will not only ride behind three iconic express locos, but the ticket includes full access to the Transport Museum to view the new static exhibits.

Keith Whitmore, East Lancashire Railway director and museum chairman, said: “In the last year museums up and down the country have faced a downturn in visiting numbers.

“We’re proud that our numbers have increased by 13 per cent despite this, and it’s down to the tireless efforts of the ELR team, and the great additions to our museum that we’ve acquired this year.

“We’re looking forward to another great year for the museum, as our collection continues to grow and appeal to train enthusiasts and families alike.”

Mason Advisory scoops ten awards in FT Leading Management Consultants 2024 report

For the seventh year running, The Financial Times has published its annual UK’s Leading Management Consultants report and Manchester’s Mason Advisory has been recognised in ten categories.

The leading digital and technology consultancy has been awarded silver in healthcare and life science, and bronze in six sector categories – chemicals and pharmaceuticals, financial institutions, consumer goods and retail, public and social sector, travel transport and logistics, and insurance.

It also secured three bronze awards in the services categories for IT implementation, IT strategy, and organisation and change.

The list, compiled by the Financial Times and Statista, identifies and celebrates consultancies most recommended by their peers and clients. The results are based on three surveys, one for consultants’ views of their peers, and an additional two surveys collating client feedback.

A total of 178 consultancies are listed this year, across 30 different industries and consulting sectors, and the inclusion of Mason Advisory is an acknowledgement of its strong reputation and performance within the UK consulting sector.

Paul Pugh, CEO at Mason Advisory (pictured) said: “This year, we have secured our best results yet in the report and being included is recognition from the whole industry and a huge honour for the business – we are delighted that so many of our clients and business leaders participated in the report and nominated us.

To be featured for the sixth time, and to have secured awards in ten categories demonstrates the importance of the work our team delivers, our strong partnerships with our clients, our deep expertise, and our understanding of the market.

“Following an encouraging year of growth, we are confidently focused on delivering tangible results to support our clients to create measurable and lasting change, to expand our specialisms further and to continue to build our team of talented consultants.”

Last year, Mason Advisory was listed in nine categories in the UK’s Leading Management Consultants report and was awarded the prestigious Social Value award for its transformative work with Northumberland County Council at the Management Consultancies Association awards.

Paul Pogba: Juventus midfielder ‘heartbroken’ after being handed four-year ban

Paul Pogba says he is “heartbroken” at being handed a four-year ban from football for an anti-doping violation and will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Pogba was suspended in September 2023 after returning a positive sample for testosterone following Juve’s 3-0 win over Udinese on August 20.

A B sample in October confirmed the result and left Pogba facing an investigation from the National Anti-Doping Prosecutor’s Office, who requested the maximum sanction.

That sanction was upheld by the National Anti-Doping Tribunal, leaving Pogba facing up to the fact his career is likely over. As it stands, he won’t be able to play until 2027 with the ban backdated to the date of the failed test.

He said in a statement: “I have today been informed of the National Anti-Doping Tribunal’s decision and believe that the verdict is incorrect.

“I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me.

“When I am free of legal restrictions the full story will become clear, but I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations.

“As a professional athlete I would never do anything to enhance my performance by using banned substances and have never disrespected or cheated fellow athletes and supporters of any of the teams I have played for, or against.

“As a consequence of the decision announced today I will appeal this before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”

The French World Cup-winner has endured a miserable second spell at Juventus after re-joining from Manchester United at the end of the 2021-22 season.

He initially joined United in 2009 as a teenager before leaving for Juve in 2012.

He was lured back to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then world-record fee of £89million only to run down his contract and move back to Turin.

Pogba managed just 162 minutes of playing time in all competitions last season and made two substitute appearances this term.

He was placed on a special contract when initially suspended with Juve only willing to pay him the minimum allowed. And the club must now decide what to do with a player whose deal ends in June 2026.

Police discover ‘chop shop’ in Shaw

0

Suspected stolen car parts were found scattered across the outdoor premises, with tyres and car parts piled up inside a workshop where it is believed vehicles are being stripped to sell on for a profit.

Seven men between the ages of 24 and 55 were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply and going equipped to steal. They remain in custody for questioning.

A number of high-value vehicle parts and vehicles were seized, and officers are working hard to find their rightful owners.

Alongside the cars, an electric relay device was also seized, these are typically used to steal vehicles with keyless entry and the car can be broken into in a matter of seconds.

Hotspot areas

Sergeant Paul Lockett GMP’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, said: “Our unit regularly patrol hotspot areas and are continually on the lookout for stolen vehicles in the region and are committed to driving down crimes such as vehicle theft and burglary.

“A lot of our work is not visible, but we want the public to be reassured that we are out in communities across Greater Manchester fighting crime and disrupting serious violence, and these results today are a great example of this.

“We will continue to work to drive down vehicle crime, but I would ask that residents help us to help them by following our simple advice – do not leave your car keys on show or where they can easily be reached when at home, always keep your windows and doors locked and for anyone who has a steering lock, I would encourage you to use it.

“Anyone with information about car thefts or anyone who believes suspicious activity is taking place at premises’ can call report it online at www.gmp.police.uk or alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Exploring the Advancements in Insurance Policy Management Software

0

Insurance is one of the principal industries in the current age. Many insurance providers are in the market providing various kinds of claims and services. Suitable to each customer, these providers create numerous policies that may involve complicated processes of management and execution. It is heavily price-incurring to employ such a huge workforce to cater to the policy administration needs of so many claims and services. Again, with manual methods, countless errors and miscalculations may arise.

To save time and provide customers with a seamless, smooth experience, digital insurance policy management platforms have now come as a rescue to providers. These online and fully digitized platforms use smart insurance policy management software with automated techniques to process all service requests related to policy management. They can edit and update wordings and generative processes in policies as well as comprehensively process all administrative requirements in the blink of an eye.

How do digitized insurance policy management platforms provide advanced insurance experience?

Insurance policy management platforms reduce the complexity in the chain of policy administration with a lot of methods. The smart technology used by insurance policy management software enables these digital platforms to improve service levels by automating service requests from end to end. It also creates an interactive platform to keep customers abreast of all regulations related to policy administration. The key advancements in policy management provided by this software are:

Full automation of customer service request lifecycle regarding financial and non-financial requests and the assigning of those automatically.

  • Enabling interactive policy servicing and defining complex rules of calculation for payment and revival requests.
  • Facilitating an omnichannel initiation of requests and automatically allocating cases based on the type of request.
  • Integrated extraction of details related to policy
  • Importing, viewing, and deleting documents simultaneously with built-in split-screen facilities.

The new advanced features of insurance policy management software

Digitized and automated processes of online insurance policy management platforms have multiple features that improve customer experience and retention. They streamline end-to-end policy request services and seamlessly cover all wording and clause requirements. Here are a few of its advanced features:

  • Quotations and their management: This software can manage end-to-end quotation issues. This ranges from capturing data, using it for the calculation of the premium, and invoking those calculation rules to generate the quotation. The software also helps to reduce the turnaround time for the processing and servicing of policies.
  • Automated classification of cases: Fully automated operations used by policy management software help to classify cases faster and without human errors. These provide algorithms based on rules for straight-through processing of endorsements with low complexity. Straight-through processing of policy-related requests is also done effectively with these algorithms. Non-straight-through cases, on the other hand, can go through automatic flagging and assignment to the underwriter.
  • Tailored communication and collaboration: Modern software for insurance policy management can generate documents based on templates through the platforms for management of communication with customers. Communications with customers can become faster, more effective, and more contextual with the help of these platforms. Renewal requests, endorsement letters, and other related communications can be effectively managed.
  • Automatic ingestion of insurance policy details: Digitized software for insurance policy management provides a seamless experience of integration with the policy administration system. This helps in the automatic fetching of all policy-related details. In the end, it reduces the manual efforts required for finding and locating relevant fields necessary for policy endorsement.
  • Compliance measures: Online platforms with smart policy managing software can trace requests and additional related documents through automated reminders and escalations. All these processes ensure full compliance with policy servicing. Auditing of logs, quality checking, and resolution of discrepancies across forms, transactions, and processes are some other measures adopted by these platforms.
  • Seamless creation of policies: Digitized policy management software can create policies seamlessly with:
  1. Detailed view of rules applied at the time of generation
  2. Rule-based wording/clause/policy editing by designated users
  3. Seamless integration with policy administration system for fetching client/coverage/endorsement details, selecting the corresponding template, and applying proper wording rules
  4. Support for batch-based integration and API to get metadata for policy generation

Conclusion:

Insurance policy management involves a lot of complex processes that may take a long time and face interventions of human error in manual administration. Digital software for policy administration involves fully automated processing of policy requests and the creation of an interactive centralized interface. This makes management faster and more efficient.

India have recalled paceman Jasprit Bumrah for the fifth Test against England.

The home side’s hard-fought win in Ranchi means India hold an unassailable 3-1 lead with just one game to play. That has not stopped them from bolstering their bowling ranks, however, with Bumrah included after being rested last time out.

Building an Email Marketing List

0

Email marketing is vital for keeping in touch with your audience and it remains one of the highest in terms of ROI too. But before any of that you’ll need to build an email list.

Building an email list takes time, but there are also a few things you can do to help build a list that’s engaged and filled with relevant and high-quality contacts.

Why Email?

If you’re a sole trader or a business that uses a digital marketing agency, it’s good to understand the ROI capabilities of email marketing. And you should get on board. With its low cost and potential for high engagement, email marketing consistently delivers a strong return on investment. Compared to traditional marketing channels, email marketing is highly cost-effective, making it great for businesses of all sizes, including startups with limited budgets.

Email also provides a very direct and personal way to communicate with your audience. You can deliver highly targeted messages right to where they are. Email platforms allow for audience segmentation, so you can tailor messages to specific groups based on their preferences, behaviour, or demographics. Personalising your emails based on a user’s behaviour just adds to the experience and building and nurturing customer relationships in this way provides a consistent touchpoint for brand interaction and engagement.

Email marketing platforms often provide detailed analytics too. This means you can track metrics such as open rates, click-through rates and conversions, providing valuable insights for optimisation. Automation allows you to schedule and automate email campaigns based on a user’s interactions or predetermined triggers.

Building the List

But before all of that you need a list. Below are some ways that can help build your list:

  • Create valuable content such as ebooks, guides or exclusive insights that incentivise visitors to subscribe. If people feel they are getting value, they’ll subscribe.
  • Webinars, free trials, or downloadable resources are also great for capturing user’s interest.
  • Ask people to subscribe by placing user-friendly and strategically located subscription forms on your website for easy sign-ups.
  • Use your social media platforms to promote subscriptions and encourage followers to join your email list.
  • Share it all. Ask current subscribers to share their emails with friends and colleagues.
  • Incorporate quizzes, surveys, or interactive content can engage and also prompt users to subscribe.
  • Provide subscribers with exclusive discounts, early access, or promotions to make subscription more appealing.
  • Collaborate with influencers or industry partners and contribute guest posts with a call-to-action for subscription.
  • Include an opt-in option during the checkout process to capture the interest of potential customers.

Getting Permission

People are digital savvy and will quickly unsubscribe if they didn’t sign up. What’s more, sending unsolicited emails is against the law since the introduction of privacy and data protection regulations. Complying with data protection regulations like GDPR and CAN-SPAM, avoids legal issues and potential fines associated with unsolicited communication. If you use a digital marketing agency they should be able to help with this. But if you’re a sole trader it’s worth understanding the basics of the regulations. In most cases, email service providers won’t send to email addresses that haven’t explicitly subscribed. So, if you don’t comply you risk getting blacklisted by your email service provider.

But getting permission goes deeper than just a regulatory requirement. It shows a respect for your audience’s privacy, establishing trust and credibility. When users willingly opt-in, they signal their interest and consent.

And by obtaining permission, you ensure that your marketing messages are reaching individuals who have expressed a genuine interest in your products or services. You don’t want to be sending to people who will never buy. Subscribers who have willingly opted in are more likely to engage with your content, open emails, and participate in promotions.

It also reduces the likelihood of your emails being marked as spam, maintaining your positive sender reputation. Email service providers want senders with good reputations.

Permission-based marketing is the foundation for building quality, long-term relationships with your audience. It helps you to nurture leads, provide value and turn subscribers into loyal customers.

Final Thoughts

Building a good email marketing list is not just about quantity but about quality and engagement. By implementing a combination of good content offers, relevance and website sign-up forms, you can create a foundation for email list growth. Get permission and you’ll build trust as well as being compliant with regulations.

It’s an ongoing process that requires adaptability and a good understanding of your audience. With a little thought you can create a dynamic and responsive email subscriber base which becomes a powerful asset that drives engagement, loyalty, and supports your business’s success.
