Manchester United: Ratcliffe eyes ‘the next Mbappe, the next Bellingham or the next Roy Keane’

0

Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority owner of Manchester United, says he would rather unearth young talents than pay market price for established stars.

Ineos chairman Ratcliffe will oversee football operations at Old Trafford after acquiring a 27.7 per cent stake and he explained he would rather get the right structures in place that would allow the club to find burgeoning talent than simply sign players at the top of the game.

Asked if he would like to sign England star Jude Bellingham, he told Geraint Thomas’ Cycling Club podcast: “He is a great footballer. It’s not where our focus is, the solution isn’t spending a lot of money on a couple of great players.

“They have done that, if you look at the last 10 years, they have spent a lot of money on a couple of great players.

“The first thing we need to do is get the right people in the right boxes who are managing and organising the club.

“And make sure we get recruitment right, it is such a vital part of football today.”

Asked later if he would rather sign Kylian Mbappe, who is expected to join Real Madrid this summer, for United or leading cyclist Tadej Pogacar for his Ineos team, he added: “I would rather sign the next Mbappe rather than spend a fortune buying success.

“It’s not that clever buying Mbappe. Anyone could figure that one out. More challenging is to find the next Mbappe or next Bellingham or next Roy Keane.”

Ratcliffe was also asked about Old Trafford, explaining the temptation to build a new ground on the existing site rather than redevelop Old Trafford.

He said: “It needs to have a stadium that’s befitting the club and the brand. That might have been the case 20 years ago but it isn’t today.

“We could refurbish the ground and we’d make a really nice job of it. It’d be a fantastic stadium. It’d cost about £1billion to do that and the club can shoulder the burden of that. But you have got this opportunity if you choose to, to build a completely new ground because we have enough space.

“If you build a new ground, it would be state of the art, world class, 90,000, perhaps even 100,000 and that provides a platform for some of the big competitions in the north of England.

“Football is just as important in the north as it is in the south, arguably even more so. And the people in the north pay the taxes.

“Why do we have Wembley in the south? Why do we have Twickenham in the south? Why do we have Wimbledon in the south? Why do we have the Olympic Village in the south? Why do we have the O2 concert arena in the south?

“What have we got in the north? What’s all this levelling up stuff? The northern powerhouse, they are great words but what’s actually been done?”

Businesses invited to bid to build and run Oldham Council’s new solar farm

0

Oldham Council is inviting businesses to tender for a £1.2 million contract to deliver a major new solar farm in the borough.

The site at Wrigley Head, Failsworth, is the council’s first solar farm and is a key project in a strategy to make Oldham Council buildings carbon neutral by 2025, followed by the whole borough by 2030.

A tender process has been launched, which invites businesses to design, build, operate and maintain the 1MW site for 20 years.

Cllr Abdul Jabbar MBE said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for green technology businesses to get involved in a pioneering project in Greater Manchester.

“The solar farm will create green energy which is capable of creating enough electricity to power the equivalent of around 750 homes at one time.

“It will transform the land, which was previously a derelict site, giving it a new sustainable purpose which will boost the environment and biodiversity. It will also reduce our reliance on fossil fuels giving the council cheaper energy bills that stay low – unlike gas prices, meaning we have more money to spend on front-line services.

“We were the first council in the UK to adopt a Green New Deal and we are aiming to be the greenest borough in Greater Manchester.

“This new solar farm is just one of many green projects we have planned, and an added plus is that it will be the first subsidy-free local authority owned solar farm in Greater Manchester.

“This is your chance to play a key role in this exciting programme.”

With construction planned to start in September, the council requires a contractor who can review the outline design for the ground-mounted solar PV array and improve upon it, taking into account developments in new technology and any other factors. The new design will need to be agreed with the council, planning authority and any other key stakeholders.

Following this, the contractor will then construct, operate and maintain the installation for up to 20 years. The net value of the contract is £1.2m.

Interested parties can view the tender documents on the council’s procurement portal The Chest at www.the-chest.org.uk

The solar farm opportunity comes as Oldham Council secured £8.7 million in grant funding to support our plans to create a low carbon district heat network for Oldham Town Centre.

These unique systems use local sources of eco-friendly heat which would otherwise go to waste. In Oldham, we could use air, wastewater, minewater and biomass.

Heat networks distribute heat from a central source and deliver it to different buildings including shops, offices and homes. By supplying multiple places, they avoid the need for individual boilers or electric heaters in every building.

How Dimitri Van den Bergh rose to world darts number seven

0

Dimitri Van den Bergh’s win against Luke Humphries on March 3 saw him raise the UK Open trophy to darts enthusiasts worldwide. The last leg sent blood pumping through players and audiences alike.

World number one Humphries chased Van den Bergh’s early 7–2 lead, keeping his cool despite the odds. The scoreline tightened and pulses quickened, but Van den Bergh claimed victory, 11–10.

The UK Open is Van den Bergh’s fourth Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) title. He has proven his skill at the highest levels and has earned his place as PDC world number seven.

Fans might wonder how he got to this position. How did he break into professional darts? What does the future hold for Van den Bergh? Whether you are a fan or an aspiring player, it is time to learn about one of the PDC world greats.

Van den Bergh takes aim

Dimitri Van den Bergh, The Dreammaker, was born in Antwerp, Belgium, on July 8, 1994. His father, André Van Cauwenberghe, gave him the nickname due to his prodigal skill with darts. His introduction music, ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams, now speaks for him as the 2024 UK Open champion.

Van den Bergh’s first PDC title win came in the 16 th PDC Challenge Tour where he defeated Charlie Tate of Exmouth 4–0. The same year, he made the last 256 in the World Darts Federation (WDF) Winmau World Masters tournament.

Having gained his PDC tour credentials from Q School, Van den Bergh then entered the European Tour and the UK Open. He made it to the German Darts Championship but lost 6–2 to Ronnie Baxter in the opening round.

Rise to world number seven

The PDC Order of Merit is a performance-based ranking system. Judges gauge a player’s total tournament winnings over two years to decide the player’s number. Van den Bergh made the top 16 in 2018. Here is a recap of how he climbed even higher.

In 2017, after winning other tournaments, Van den Bergh gave an enviable performance at the World Championship. The 23-year-old managed to beat Stephen Bunting, Jan Dekker, and Mensur Suljovic before losing to champion Rob Cross in the final. Van den Bergh’s performance at the World Championship secured his approval from top darts players, and he became a player that viewers and bettors keep an eye on.

Van den Bergh made the final of the 2018 German Darts Masters tournament, winning against both Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson. He played Mensur Suljovic again, but this time Suljovic claimed victory in the final. The World Cup came next. Van den Bergh reached the semi-final for Belgium but lost to Raymond van Barneveld.

In an empty 2020 arena, Van den Bergh won the World Matchplay tournament in Milton Keynes. Players must be in the PDC Order of Merit top 16 to enter. Despite skilled competition, he defeated Gary Anderson 18–10 in the final. Players Championship wins at BAR and NIE in 2021 lifted Van den Bergh higher.

In 2022, he won the Dutch and Nordic Darts Masters in the World Series of Darts. Van
den Bergh’s victory streak then paused until his 2024 UK Open win over Luke Humphries.
In a post-match interview with PDC, Van den Bergh spoke of his grandfather’s passing two years before the UK Open. His title win after a period of tragedy and struggle marks a special moment in his career.

Get into the game

As of 2024, Van der Bergh has gained six televised titles, two non-televised PDC titles, and one televised nine-dart finish. Topped with his world number seven ranking, the future looks sharp for Dimitri Van den Bergh.

So, what does the future hold for Van den Bergh? Can he build on this success? Stay tuned for more sports news and tips.

About the Air Source Heat Pump Grant in England, Scotland and Wales

The Air Source Heat Pump Grant in England, Scotland and Wales is a government initiative that is part of the Eco scheme, which is currently in the ECO4 phase. Because the goals of this program are combating fuel poverty and reducing carbon emissions, they have placed a major focus on assisting low income households that need to replace their old home heating system with more efficient alternatives, such as an air source heat pump.

Thanks to its EPC rating of A+++, being able to work without fossil fuels and superior efficiency, air source heat pump grants are the ideal alternative to gas and oil boilers that millions of households in Scotland, England and Wales still use.

This grant is bringing eligible households free funding up to £7,500 for upgrading their home’s heating system to an air source heat pump, which will help the ECO scheme to accomplish its goals of helping families vulnerable to fuel poverty and reducing the carbon emissions of the housing stock in the UK.

Eligibility for the Air Source Heat Pump Grant

This government grant is only available for selected households, hence you must meet the following eligibility criteria to claim free funding to upgrade your home’s heating system with a new air source heat pump.

Location and Property

If you want to claim this grant, you must be a homeowner or private tenant located in England, Wales or Scotland. Because this grant is under the ECO4 scheme, only companies in aforementioned territories are obliged to provide vulnerable households with solutions for improving the energy efficiency of their properties.

Income

The grant is only available for low income and vulnerable households, because it’s been designed to combat fuel poverty. Hence, you must meet one or more of the following conditions:

  • Household income must be lower than £31,000
  • Someone in the property must suffer from a health condition or long-term illness
  • Someone in the property must receive one or more qualifying benefits

If you are wondering what the qualifying benefits are, here you have the full list:

  • Child Tax Credits (CTC)
  • Income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Warm Homes Discount Scheme
  • Income Support (IS)
  • Working Tax Credit (WTC)
  • Income based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Pension Credit Savings Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Child Benefits

For example, if your household income is £29,000, you can qualify for the air source heat pump grant if you meet the other eligibility criteria.

Likewise, if your household income is higher than £31,000, but someone in your property suffers from health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, arthritis, immunosuppression, cardiovascular disease, disability or limited mobility, you can qualify for this government grant.

EPC Rating

The grant is designed to improve the efficiency of vulnerable households in the UK, and hence it’s only available for properties with an EPC rating of D, E, F or G. This means that the property needs a solution to improve energy efficiency, and within this context, replacing a fossil fuel boiler with an air source heat pump.

For example, if your household income is lower than £31,000, but your property’s EPC rating is B, you won’t qualify for claiming the air source heat pump grant.

Property Heating System

It’s also important to mention that this grant is only available for properties which heating system meets the following solutions:

  • It uses a fossil fuel boiler or heating system
  • It is 7+ years old
  • It is faulty and beyond the point of repair
  • It’s determined that replacing it will directly improve the property’s EPC rating
  • It’s determined that even installing upgrades such as wall and loft insulation won’t improve the property’s EPC rating

For example, if your household income is lower than £31,000, your property’s EPC rating is D but it’s determined that it can be improved by adding wall and loft insulation, you won’t be able to claim this grant.

Transforming Food and Beverage Distribution with Flexitank Advancements

0

Transporting liquid products for the food industry can be a challenge. Cross-contamination, tank cleanings, and cost-effective and efficient transportation are of great concern in the food industry. KriCon Group BV specializes in the transportation of liquid bulk cargo using ISO tanks/tank containers, with a global network of offices and agencies worldwide.

Traditional tankers can be difficult to clean or to verify their halal/kosher suitability. What were they used for previously? KriCon Group BV offers alternatives to the problematic tanker. Flexitanks and IBCs are flexible, sustainable solutions.

Certain food-grade liquid shipments are at the greatest risk of contamination, especially wine, edible oils, juices, and even food chemicals, which can be degraded or destroyed by cross-contamination. Taste is important, and reusing an old tanker comes with uncertainty. Delicate edible oils are expensive, and an old tanker could completely ruin a batch. However, a Flexitank can preserve the flavors and integrity of liquid foodstuffs so they arrive at their destination intact.

Engineered from top-quality multi-layer polypropylene, Flexitank is a specialized container ideal for transporting liquid cargo within 20-foot dry containers. Featuring capacities ranging from 14,000 to 24,000 liters, they offer a reliable solution for one-way shipment of liquid food products, ensuring cleanliness essential for halal and kosher foods, as well as wines and alcohol.

Utilizing Flexitanks for shipping involves several considerations. Larger liquid cargoes may require bigger sizes and additional adjustments to ensure stable transportation. Tank container emerges as the preferred option for handling larger shipments due to their reinforced supports and durable construction.

Flexitanks should be maintained by certified personnel and performed at a KriCon-certified fitting depot. KriCon guarantees the best quality and customer service by using only accredited personnel.

Every Flexitank comes with state-of-the-art accessories, linings, and bulkheads. It can also be shipped anywhere in the world without the problem of repositioning afterward. This versatility is beneficial for businesses of all sizes looking for a simple solution to container logistics. Repositioning is expensive, with over $20B yearly for each empty repositioning. With Flexitanks, you can skip these expenses by unloading and removing the Flexitank from the container. Flexitanks fold down to about 60kg.

In fact, polypropylene is recyclable. To recycle, empty the Flexitank of liquid, rinse with water, and wash, avoiding chemicals that can harm the environment or disrupt the recycling process. Remove any valves or parts that are not recyclable. Flexitanks are not only perfect for liquid foodstuffs but also a zero-waste shipping solution.

Flexitank is the perfect choice for shipping liquids across the food and beverage industry by eliminating cross-contamination, repositioning, and easing minds about halal and kosher requirements.

In the realm of home decor, the quest for furniture that marries both style and durability is ever-present. Homeowners and interior designers alike seek pieces that elevate living spaces without the need for frequent replacements.

This pursuit often leads to the exploration of materials and designs that promise longevity without compromising on aesthetic appeal. Among the myriad of options, incorporating a steel plate in furniture creations stands out as a choice that offers both chic appeal and enduring quality.

The allure of durability

Durability is a cornerstone of sustainable living. Furniture that withstands the test of time reduces the need for frequent replacements, which in turn lessens waste and supports environmental sustainability.

Materials play a pivotal role in this aspect, and the choice of a steel plate as a foundation for furniture items is a testament to this principle. Its robust nature ensures that furniture not only remains stable and durable but also retains its aesthetic appeal over years of use.

Aesthetic versatility

The beauty of using steel in furniture design lies in its versatility. Steel can be moulded, welded, and finished in various ways, allowing for a range of designs from minimalist to intricate.

This flexibility enables designers to create pieces that reflect personal style and complement different interior themes, from industrial chic to modern elegance. Whether it’s a sleek dining table base or a statement bookshelf, steel-based furniture adds a touch of sophistication and uniqueness to any space.

Environmental considerations

In today’s environmentally conscious world, the choice of materials for home furnishings is more important than ever. Steel is highly recyclable, making it an eco-friendly option for those looking to minimise their environmental impact. Choosing furniture made with materials like 6mm steel plate not only ensures longevity but also supports sustainable practices by reducing the demand for virgin resources and minimising waste.

Customisation and personalisation

One of the most appealing aspects of choosing steel for furniture is the potential for customisation. The material’s adaptability means that pieces can be tailored to fit specific spaces, needs, and aesthetic preferences. Whether it’s a custom-sized table to fit a unique dining room or a bespoke shelving unit designed to showcase a collection, steel allows for personalisation that makes a home truly individual.

Care and maintenance

Maintaining the chic appearance of steel furniture is surprisingly straightforward. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth and mild detergent is often all that’s needed to keep pieces looking their best. For those concerned about scratches or wear over time, finishes and coatings can be applied to protect the surface and extend the furniture’s lifespan. This ease of care ensures that your stylish pieces remain a focal point in your home for years to come.

Integrating steel furniture into your home

Incorporating steel-based furniture into your home decor requires a thoughtful approach. Consider the overall theme of your space and choose pieces that complement or accentuate it. For a harmonious look, mix materials by pairing steel with wood, glass, or textiles. This creates a balanced aesthetic that highlights the unique qualities of each material. Lighting also plays a key role in showcasing steel furniture, with natural light or well-placed fixtures enhancing its visual appeal.

Future trends in furniture design

The future of furniture design continues to evolve, with sustainability and personalisation at the forefront. As consumers become more conscious of their environmental impact and seek pieces that reflect their individual style, materials like steel are gaining popularity.

Advances in technology and design techniques also mean that the potential for innovative and sustainable furniture is boundless. In this landscape, steel stands out as a material that can meet the demands of both durability and design flexibility.

Conclusion

Enhancing your home with chic and long-lasting furniture is a journey that blends personal style with practical considerations. In this quest, the choice of materials is paramount. With its durability, versatility, and aesthetic appeal, incorporating 6mm steel plate into furniture designs offers a pathway to creating spaces that are both beautiful and sustainable.

As we look towards the future of home decor, the integration of robust, recyclable materials like steel is not just a trend but a paradigm shift towards more responsible and personalised home furnishings. Whether through bespoke creations or thoughtfully selected pieces, the fusion of style and sustainability in furniture design is a testament to the possibilities that await in the art of making a house a home.
