Glowing strong: Luxury tanning salon celebrates first anniversary

A stylish tanning salon created from a former laundrette, is about to celebrate its first year in business.

Glowing Limited, in Urmston, opened its doors in November 2025 to offer customers a “very different kind of tanning experience”.

For owner Dawn Lambert, the location holds a personal connection as she grew up less than a mile away from the premises and has fond childhood memories of the laundrette.

But with years of hands-on experience renovating and managing properties, Dawn decided to take on the challenge of transforming the empty premises.

The extensive refurbishment involved everything from structural alterations and new electrics to flooring, ceilings, air conditioning and a complete interior redesign.

Today, visitors describe the salon as more like an elegant living room than a traditional sunbed shop.

Dawn said: “I wanted to create somewhere people genuinely enjoyed visiting. Somewhere that felt beautiful, calm and relaxing, rather than somewhere you just rush in and out of.

“People often tell us how peaceful it feels inside. We’ve even got a huge five-foot aquarium, which adds to that atmosphere. It’s those little things that make Glowing different. I wanted people to feel like they could come in, switch off for a little while and enjoy being here.”

While the salon’s appearance often makes the first impression, Dawn believes the people working there are just as important to its success.

“Choosing the right staff was one of the most important decisions I made. I’ve always been quite good at reading people, and when I meet somebody, I tend to know whether they’re the right fit.

“I wanted genuinely lovely, happy people who enjoy talking to customers and making them feel welcome. And that’s exactly what I’ve got.

“The feedback we receive about the girls is wonderful. Customers are always telling us how friendly and helpful they are, and I think that makes such a difference. People come back because they enjoy the atmosphere and the way they’re treated, not just because of the sunbeds.”

Adding to the salon’s friendly, personal atmosphere, customers will also occasionally meet Dawn’s young daughter, who enjoys spending time at Glowing with her mum and has become a familiar face to many regular visitors.

Alongside its welcoming environment, Glowing offers four premium hybrid sunbeds, with every bed providing the same high standard of tanning equipment. Rather than offering different grades of sunbeds at varying price points, Glowing has made premium hybrid tanning available throughout the salon at affordable prices.

The business also offers flexible tanning packages, including a particularly customer-friendly policy: purchased tanning minutes never expire.

And with convenient parking, competitive pricing, an air-conditioned salon and an emphasis on cleanliness and customer care, Glowing aims to make every visit a positive experience.

As Glowing approaches its first anniversary, the salon has continued to attract new customers, with personal recommendations and returning visitors helping establish the business in the local area.

Dawn added: “Opening a business is one thing, but building something that lasts takes time. We’ve had a really encouraging first year, and I’m looking forward to seeing Glowing continue to grow.”

Glowing Limited is located at 287A Stretford Road in Urmston and is open every day of the week. Over 18s only.
