Roast & Ground’s Year-Round Commitment to Sustainable Workplace Refreshment

Following the recent global movement of Plastic Free July, Roast & Ground is reflecting on the campaign’s success by highlighting the practical steps it takes every day to help businesses reduce waste. As organisations move forward from the month-long initiative, Roast & Ground continues to empower customers to make sustainable purchasing decisions and enjoy better workplace coffee with a lighter environmental footprint. The company has embedded sustainability across its operations, from ethically sourced coffee and responsible packaging to charitable partnerships and low-waste workplace solutions.

Plastic Free July has once again inspired millions of people and organisations globally to reduce single-use plastics. For Roast & Ground, while the official campaign month has now ended, the values it promotes remain central to the business’ year-round mission.

As a certified B Corporation, Roast & Ground is committed to balancing purpose and profit while creating positive impact for customers, communities and the environment. Every Roast & Ground coffee is either Fairtrade or Rainforest Alliance certified, supporting responsible sourcing, farming communities and long-term sustainability throughout the coffee supply chain.

Alongside its coffee offering, the company continues to help customers reduce unnecessary waste through recyclable packaging, offering reusable or compostable cups and biodegradable disposables, making it easier for workplaces to move away from conventional single-use plastics without compromising on quality or convenience.

Roast & Ground’s sustainability commitments extend beyond its products. Through its Fuel Their Day coffee range, the business supports Only A Pavement Away, with 50p from every pack sold helping people facing homelessness into employment within hospitality. The company also supports marine restoration initiatives through the Marine Conservation Society, recognising the vital role healthy oceans play in tackling climate change and protecting biodiversity.

“Plastic Free July is a great reminder that small changes can create significant impact,” said Catherine Gray, Joint Managing Director at Roast & Ground. “Whether it’s switching to compostable cups, choosing ethically sourced coffee or reducing packaging waste, every decision matters. Sustainability isn’t a one-month campaign for us. It’s built into the way we do business every day.”

Roast & Ground also works closely with partners that share its long-term sustainability ambitions. Among them is Rex-Royal, the Swiss coffee machine manufacturer whose sustainability programme includes the use of recyclable materials, long-life machine design, refurbishment initiatives, energy-efficient technology and renewable energy generation at its production facilities. Rex-Royal machines are designed for longevity, helping businesses reduce waste and maximise product lifespan.

The company’s workplace water solutions also help organisations reduce reliance on single-use bottled water by providing filtered, refillable hydration systems that support a more circular approach to workplace refreshments.

“As a family business, we believe sustainability should be practical, measurable and achievable,” added Catherine Gray. “By combining great coffee with responsible sourcing, trusted partnerships and meaningful community support, we’re helping our customers make choices that are better for people and better for the planet.”
