National Fish and Chip Day to Celebrate Its 10th Anniversary on 6th June

Fish and chips: whether it’s cod, haddock or plaice on your plate, and whether you swear by curry sauce, mushy peas, or a splash of gravy — there’s no denying the nation’s love for this timeless classic.

On Thursday 6th June, fish and chip fans across the UK will come together to mark National Fish and Chip Day, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.

From humble beginnings in 2015, the event has grown into the largest food awareness day in the UK, recognising the enduring appeal and cultural significance of one of Britain’s favourite meals.

National Fish and Chip Day honours every link in the chain — from the fishermen and farmers who supply the raw ingredients, to the local chippies, restaurateurs, home cooks and even celebrity chefs who turn them into the perfect plate of comfort food.

Gary Lewis, President of NEODA (The National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association), which founded the event, said:

“This year marks a significant milestone for National Fish and Chip Day as we celebrate its 10th anniversary! Over the past decade, we’ve seen incredible support from everyone involved with fish and chips across the UK, and we’re thrilled to continue honouring this iconic British dish.

Fish and chip shops are at the heart of our communities, and getting involved in this celebration is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the quality and tradition of this family favourite. We encourage all shops to take part and share in the pride and joy that National Fish and Chip Day represents.”

Led by NEODA and supported by its members, this year’s event also receives backing from industry favourites Middletons Foods and the Hook and Fish Packaging Range, continuing a strong tradition of collaboration within the sector.

So, whether you’re a chippy regular or a home fry-up fan, National Fish and Chip Day is a chance to come together and celebrate a dish that has stood the test of time — in seaside towns, city centres and every community in between.
