Where to recycle your Christmas trees this New Year

As the festive season comes to an end and the New Year looms, Manchester City Council is offering multiple ways for residents to recycle their Christmas trees.

Recycling trees not only reduces waste but also helps to bring people together and support local charities.

The New Year tree recycling initiative provides residents with various convenient options for tree disposal, making it easier to celebrate sustainability and contribute to the well-being of the community.

Charity collection: Residents can arrange for their trees to be collected directly from their homes by Just Helping for a small donation. The proceeds from this service will support local charities including St Ann’s Hospice, Francis House, and We Love Manchester.

Green bin collections: For those with green bins, residents can chop up their trees and place the pieces in their bin for regular collection on any scheduled day in January. Alternatively, trees can be left outside on green bin collection days for removal.

Drop-off locations: Residents can also drop off their trees at the following locations throughout January:

  • Wythenshawe Park and Gardens Athletics Track, M23 0PH
  • Heaton Park, M8 4NB
  • Boggart Hole Clough, M9 7DH
  • Patchett Street, M12 4RY

For city centre residents, additional drop-off points include:

  • Angel Meadow Park, M4 4HA
  • Castlefield Bowl, M3 4JR
  • Cutting Room Square, M4 6BF
  • Smithfield Estate, M4 5JD

Apartment residents: Email [email protected] to arrange a collection during January.

Artificial trees: While artificial trees cannot be recycled, they can be dropped off at local Household Waste Recycling Centres.
