Football Enthusiast and Steve McClaren Look-alike Supports Lionesses in Australia after Attending Eight Men’s Tournaments

Andy Milne, a passionate football fan and well-known Steve McClaren look-alike, has made his way to Australia to cheer on the Lionesses ahead of the opening matches of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Milne gained popularity during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to his infectious enthusiasm and resemblance to former English football player Steve McClaren.

Spotted near Sydney’s iconic Harbour Bridge, Milne joined England supporters for selfies, some of whom sported lookalike face masks, and even had a replica trophy in hand.

Known as “that World Cup guy,” Milne has supported England at every Men’s World Cup since he was 19 but had never attended a Women’s World Cup before.

In response to his story, Tourism Australia extended a warm welcome for Andy and his daughter Laila, 27, who is currently living in Sydney on a working holiday, to attend the tournament.

Hailing from Northwich, Cheshire, Milne has long been an advocate for women’s sports. He played a role in establishing the girls’ football team at The Grange School in Cheshire, ensuring his daughter Laila had the opportunity to participate.

Excited about the trip, Milne expressed his joy about experiencing the Women’s World Cup and the warm reception he received in Australia.

England, the reigning European Champions, will face Haiti in their first game on Saturday, 20 July, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland.

Sally Cope, Tourism Australia’s Regional General Manager for UK & Northern Europe, highlighted the role of sports in Australian culture and expressed excitement about inviting Andy to be part of the Women’s World Cup.

Andy will spend a week in Australia, supporting the Lionesses in their opening match and also watching the Matildas take on Ireland’s Girls in Green on Thursday, 20 July.

During his visit, Andy had the opportunity to meet up with footy enthusiast and TikToker @samanthajademiller in Sydney.
