Landmark Conviction in Crete Rape Case Achieved by London Solicitors

Fidlaw, a prominent London-based law firm specialising in international cases, has successfully represented an 18-year-old British tourist who endured a traumatic ordeal in July 2022 on the Greek island of Crete.

The two perpetrators, both Pakistani men, have been found guilty of gang rape and physical harm. The case concluded on 21 June 2023 at the Court House in Rethymno, Igoumenou Gavriil 111, Rethymno 741 00, Greece, with the defendants receiving the maximum sentence of life imprisonment, as unanimously decided by the judges and juries.

This landmark conviction represents a significant milestone in achieving justice for the survivor and highlights Fidlaw’s unwavering commitment to advocating for victims of abhorrent crimes.

The dedicated legal team at Fidlaw, consisting of Solicitors Francesco Meduri and Elena Hadjikyriakou, along with Greece-based lawyers Anna Perdikaris and Emmanouil Xenikos, worked tirelessly to ensure that the voices of survivors are heard and justice prevails.

In addition to the charges of gang rape and physical harm, the defendants faced allegations of breaking immigration laws and illegally entering Greece. The proceedings exposed a history of previous criminal behavior by one of the perpetrators, further emphasising the importance of accountability and the potential for civil liability to be applied to the state.

Fidlaw, with its expertise in international law, has been at the forefront of this groundbreaking case. The firm’s diligent efforts have not only resulted in a just outcome for the survivor but have also sent a powerful message that perpetrators will be held accountable, regardless of their nationality.

This conviction establishes a precedent that instills hope in survivors and contributes to the pursuit of a safer and more equitable society.
