Ellie Burke Advocates Mental Health Awareness Through Her Latest Music Video ‘Filtered Reality’

Liverpool-based singer Ellie Burke is utilising her university music dissertation, titled ‘Filtered Reality,’ to bring attention to mental health issues.

In ‘Filtered Reality,’ Ellie invites viewers into her world and shares her struggles with the negative impact of social media. She explores the influence of filtered images, stories, and narratives, highlighting how they can lead to unrealistic expectations and lifestyles.

Ellie Burke composed ‘Filtered Reality’ as part of her university music dissertation, aiming to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of social media. For her project, Ellie conducted research by gathering personal accounts from individuals who have experienced mental health problems as a result of cyberbullying and comparing themselves to the filtered realities portrayed online.

“One girl shared how social media worsened her eating disorder due to the availability of negative content related to her condition. Another person discussed how cyberbullying severely impacted their mental health and well-being. An influencer talked about experiencing anxiety caused by Instagram, as she was presenting an unhealthy version of her life, which influenced others with its unrealistic portrayal. This is where the idea for ‘Filtered Reality’ originated,” explains Ellie Burke.

While acknowledging the positive aspects of social media, such as building connections and accessing valuable information, Ellie’s primary goal is to let others know they are not alone in their struggles, regardless of their nature.

As an artist, Ellie Burke strives to create engaging and thought-provoking music that provides an escape for her listeners. She made her debut on January 20th with her captivating single “The Moon” and followed it up with her enchanting sophomore release, “Together,” which delves into themes of devotion and love. These songs showcase a simple acoustic production accompanied by Ellie’s dreamy vocals.

Ellie incorporates the lyrical style of soft pop with lo-fi beats, resulting in a unique sound influenced by artists like Sasha Sloan and Olivia Dean. Recognised locally in Liverpool, Ellie Burke can often be found busking and performing at various venues and events. Her relatable, down-to-earth persona is setting her on a path to becoming a rising star.

Ellie’s inspiration stems from her teenage years spent watching Disney and Nickelodeon stars such as Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande. Her aspiration to “sing on stage like Hannah Montana and Demi Lovato” motivated her to pursue performing arts in school, audition for singing opportunities, and study music production at university.

‘Filtered Reality’ and its accompanying music video will be available on streaming platforms starting from June 16th, 2023.
