Landmark Development Solutions makes key hire

Bolton-based, Landmark Development Solutions (LDS), the innovative residential development underwriting concept from Landmark Investments Group, has appointed Ian Barber as head of new business.

Ian has a long-established property background, most recently running Hunters flagship branch in Manchester. He will be working alongside CEO Mark Hawthorn in delivering this unique offering to developers.

Mark Hawthorn CEO of Landmark Investments comments: “This is a very important hire for LDS.  We launched the company last year and have had a growing stream of interest from developers and lenders.  Ian will ensure that in addition to managing the current and growing demand across the North West, we can drive the concept nationwide.

“Our main focus is on SME developers, typically developing 15-60 units per scheme or phase, with a GDV between £3million and £20million.

“We find this is a particular sweet spot as funding can be expensive and hard to come by due to the speculative nature of development. Our offering removes all pricing and demand risk changing the profile of the scheme enabling lenders and developers to confidently move ahead with new housing schemes.

“SME’s are generally experienced and highly capable, but without certainty over sales, it can be a leap of faith that both they and their lender are unwilling to take. LDS removes this uncertainty allowing developers to get on site and create more housing supply.”

LDS de-risks entire schemes, by underwriting sales, whist the developer retains the ability to sell at open market value and generate return. If there are unsold units at the end of the development, LDS will step in to complete ensuring the developer and their lenders a clean exit.

Ian Barber added: “I’m delighted to join LDS. The concept behind the solution is so unique it’s an incredibly exciting opportunity.

“With the government’s target to deliver 300,000 new homes a year, SME developers are the key to achieving this.   believe that LDS will enable them to get their developments off the ground and move onto the next project efficiently.

“Speaking to developers, lenders and advisors, the initial view can be that the concept is too good to be true, but, after understanding as to how it works, all agree that it is market changing in its ability, and moreover, there is nothing comparable.

Concluded Mark: “We are currently active on a number of housing sites, in towns and suburbs across the North West, working with a range of construction companies, developers, local authorities and lenders.

“We have big plans for LDS, in addition to hiring Ian we are looking to appoint further senior hires in due course as we roll out nationwide.”

0

Manchester may always be ‘home’ to Lookers, but the motor retailer is continuing to strengthen its brand representation across the nation.

The company, founded in the North-West 110 years ago, is now one of the biggest car dealerships in Britain and has just added North-East-based group, Jennings, to its repertoire. The acquisition reinforces Lookers’ position in the industry. It’s also another show of confidence by the company in the wider UK automotive market, and the continued demand for both new and used cars.

Lookers Chief Executive Andy Bruce, said: “The acquisition of Jennings is a perfect fit for Lookers and is aligned to our business model of operating the right brands in the right locations. We are delighted to expand our key partnership with Ford of Britain, the market-leading brand in the UK.”

Lookers aims to be a major consolidator in what remains to be a highly fragmented market, and the acquisition of Jennings Motor Group represents an important development for the business, while it continues to concentrate on operational excellence and consistent organic growth.

Dr Nas Khan OBE, Chairman and proprietor of Jennings, said: “The sale to Lookers represents the next stage in the evolution of a company which, just over 100 years ago, was one of the first companies in the country appointed by Ford to sell its cars. I am proud to hand over the business in such good shape to Lookers, for them to continue with the standards of customer service and care which typifies the Jennings brand.”

David Kendrick, Partner at UHY Hacker Young Manchester LLP, who advised Jennings, said: “Jennings has been a long-established and very successful group for many years now. The acquisition by Lookers makes complete sense and complements their strong North-East presence, also enhancing their Ford representation.”

The Global Psoriasis Atlas to be developed by Manchester Digital Agency e3creative

Manchester digital agency e3creative has been appointed to create the Global Psoriasis Atlas (GPA) following a competitive tendering process. Fuelled by existing data and future studies, the GPA will be the leading epidemiological resource on psoriasis globally and will be open access to the public and healthcare professionals. In response to a report by the World Health Organisation it is being brought forward as a joint endeavour between the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS), the International Psoriasis Council (IPC), and the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations (IFPA).

Scientists swap lab coats for headbands in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust

A team of 10 scientists and technicians from Elucigene Diagnostics have swapped their lab coats for headbands, completing a gruelling five mile Tough Mudder to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The Manchester-headquartered genetics company is the European market leader in cystic fibrosis diagnostics and has been an official supporter of the charity for the past four years.

Raising more than £1000 the team has participated in a range of events including: charity bake offs, Jeans for Genes Day, Wear Yellow Day, and the Manchester 10K.

Held at Heaton Park, the Tough Mudder saw them contending with 10 obstacles and plenty of mud to raise £360 for the Trust.

But for the team, the highlight of the day was meeting a young lady with cystic fibrosis, who was taking part in the event, as Elliot Northrop, Manufacturing Technician at Elucigene, explained: “By far the best moment of the day was meeting an enthusiastic, and cheerful young lady called Michelle at the start of the race.

“She asked if she could have a photo with the team. It was only afterwards that she explained she herself had cystic fibrosis, would be taking part in the event with us, and thanked us for all the work we do.

“It was wonderful to see someone with CF not only full of life and smiling from ear to ear, but also dominating this challenging course.

“It was a heart-warming moment and reinforced the pride we feel in the research and development we do day in, day out.”

Mark Street-Docherty, CEO at Elucigene Diagnostics, added: “We’re proud supporters of the Trust and regularly fundraise for it, but this event was particularly poignant for everyone involved, thanks to this touching moment.

“We’re a close-knit team here and everyone involved should be commended on a job well done.”
