BE CYBER CRIME SAVVY SAYS B-COMPLIANT

Manchester-based B-Compliant is urging firms in the financial sector to use October’s Cyber Security Month as an opportunity to stress test their technological defences.

The financial compliance specialists want FCA-regulated businesses to be more aware of their cybersecurity and take reasonable steps to protect the information they hold on clients.

B-Compliant director, Vicky Pearce, said: “Hackers don’t care about your bank balance, it’s your clients’ personal details that are valuable. Just imagine what an attack on your systems could do. The damage to your business and reputation would be catastrophic. GDPR also places the onus on you to protect sensitive data and you could be fined heavily for any breach of the rules.”

October marks the 10th anniversary of European Cyber Security Month, run by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA). The awareness campaign aims to change behaviour online and reduce cyber incidents and is focusing this year on ransomware and phishing, both huge risks for the financial sector.

B-Compliant is recommending firms implement employee training to ensure all staff can identify malicious emails and files that lead to malware attacks and viruses, that they ensure any cloud-based software providers meet regulatory requirements and personal data is protected by strong passwords.

Vicky added: “According to research, our industry is the top target for phishing lures, which means we need robust defences in place. The increased usage of cloud-based applications and the popularity of remote working are risk factors that were perhaps not present in many firms just five years ago and if your security hasn’t been reviewed for a while, it is time to take action.”

Are glass dining tables in style?

An elegant, suitable size, decent color, and the best material dining table is a need if every house. It is a single place where family members gather three times a day for meals. It is the most prominent advantage of a dining table. But some people ask whether it is still in trend or not. Let’s read this article to find the detailed answer to this question.

1.   Heat Resistant

Dining Table mirrors are heat resistant. If you place a hot cooking pot on a bedsheet or a plastic sheet, it will have the chance of burning. However, dining tables are heat-friendly and protect the mirror from becoming hot and breaking.

2.   Scratch Resistant

Like heat-resistant, dining tables are also scratch resistant. You can easily clean your dining table without fear of scratching. Furthermore, if you want to set decoration pieces on a dining table, you can easily do it. Heavy decoration pieces will not damage your dining table.

3.   Space to Arrange Things

A glass dining table is the best option if you are a decor lover. A dining table is a place where you can set bundles of decoration pieces. The decoration pieces will make your meal more joyful. You can replace decoration pieces with bowls of fruit.

The glass dining table will give you ease during movement. It will not be a headache if you are on rent. You can conveniently move it anywhere and anytime. If you live in a personal home, you can change the table position when you get bored with the previous setting.

The only thing that can cover the space in a dining room is a dining table. The dining room looks incomplete without a decent dining table. If you do not have a dining room, you can set a dining table in front of the kitchen for proper meals.

6.   Stress Releaser

A dining table is a point where you can release your all-day stress. You can share your feelings and anxieties with your family. When you share your tensions at a glass dining table, you feel relaxed when you leave the table. It is a strength of a quality dining table.

7.   Neat Bed Rooms and Floors

The people who do not have dining tables at home mostly organize meals on beds or the floor. It will increase the chances of untidy beds and mess grounds. You can keep your rooms and floors neat by arranging three-time meals on a glass dining table.

PIZZA HUT, KFC, BURGER KING AND WAGAMAMA FACE CHRISTMAS FOOD SHORTAGES AS GMB LAUNCHES STRIKE VOTE

These workers bust a gut to deliver fresh, just in time food to some of the biggest names in the business, says GMB Union

Some of Britain’s best loved family restaurants face severe disruption to their food deliveries this Christmas as GMB launches a strike ballot among workers.

Almost 600 GMB members working for Bestfood will take part in a strike ballot after they rejected the company’s latest pay offer.

The workers, who deliver fresh food to the likes of Pizza Express, KFC, Zizzi, Burger King, Wagamama and Pizza Hut, rejected a 6 per cent pay offer, which would amount to a real terms pay cut this year and into next.

A total of 93 per cent of GMB members rejected the offer, with 85 per cent indicating they wanted to be balloted formally for industrial action.

Dates for the strike ballot will be announced in the coming days.

Nadine Houghton, GMB National Officer, said:

“These workers bust a gut to deliver fresh, just in time food to some of the biggest food businesses in the North West.

“Bestfood’s parent companies Booker and Tesco are making incredibly healthy profits and paying large dividends, while leaving these workers crushed by cost of living.

“Now some of their biggest clients may well be left short this Christmas because they won’t meet GMB’s reasonable request for a pay deal that protects our members through this year and into next with a genuine cost of living increase.”

Homebuilder Northstone hits major North West milestone

0

HOMEBUILDER Northstone has reached a major milestone – bringing three new North West sites to market within a month.

Northstone now has homes on sale at Tulach in Wigan, Glisk in Ellesmere Port and Airie in Bolton. The sites – totalling 591 homes when complete – are in addition to homes already on sale at Keld in Lancashire and Silkash in Bolton.

It marks rapid expansion for the North West-based homebuilder, part of Peel L&P. Launched in 2019, its aim was to challenge perceptions of new build homes, delivering design-led, energy-efficient homes initially in the North West.

Northstone now has over 1,300 homes in the pipeline on sites totalling around 150 acres, including sites under construction and those in the planning system. Its most recent submission included reserved matters plans for 74 homes in South Lancaster.

Chief Executive Phil Wilson credits the rapid success with his team’s willingness to challenge entrenched new build practices and diversify the homes coming to market, with adapted/accessible homes; bungalows and multigenerational homes among those being planned.

Phil Wilson, Chief Executive at Northstone, said:

“This has been a significant month in Northstone’s history, with three major sites launched and people filing through showhome doors – including our first community in Cheshire. It was always our intention to first define our unique design and offer to buyers, and then move quickly at key locations to respond to the need for high-quality new homes.

“We’ve seen really strong demand at sites across the North West. A major driver of that has been people who wouldn’t usually consider a new build, as well as attracting people looking for homes that are more efficient to run, in turn cutting down on monthly bills.”

Northstone is now eyeing further expansion, with plans to be actively involved in delivery of key Peel L&P sites in Greater Manchester, as well as considering its first sites in Yorkshire.

Part of its success has been establishing strong partnerships with respected contractors across the region, including Eurogold (at Silkash and Glisk) and Westbourne (Airie).

Phil Wilson added:

“The last few weeks have shown how quickly the markets can change and it’s clearly a challenging time for UK households and the wider economy.

“With lower bills, our homes are genuinely lower cost to run. If mortgage availability and interest rates are kept in check, then the latest stamp duty changes as well as plans to streamline the planning process in key locations as part of investment zones could assist housebuilding in the North West and beyond and keep the market moving.

“We’re delivering considered communities in sustainable locations and – by delivering what we promise – demonstrating to local authorities that Northstone can set a really high bar for what new build communities can be.”
