0

Facing an uptick in cyber threats targeting the manufacturing industry, Amazon Filters, a leading manufacturer of custom filtration technologies in the UK, has strengthened its cybersecurity capabilities by partnering with CloudGuard’s Protect Plus MXDR service.

In the wake of increased ransomware attacks on their industry peers and recognising the limitations of conventional security practices, Amazon Filters undertook a strategic overhaul of their cybersecurity strategy, ultimately selecting CloudGuard’s MXDR solution for implementation.

“The threat landscape is evolving rapidly, and it’s imperative for organisations to adapt,” Amazon Filters’ IT Manager stated. “CloudGuard’s MXDR service has been a game-changer for Amazon Filters. From providing a clear roadmap for cybersecurity improvement to seamlessly integrating with our existing infrastructure, it’s been a transformative experience.”

The Managed eXtended Detection and Response (MXDR) service by CloudGuard advocates a preemptive approach to cybersecurity, amalgamating security data, applying artificial intelligence in detection processes, and automating the analysis and mitigation of threats. Its integration with Amazon Filters’ infrastructure, which is predominantly Microsoft-based, offers real-time visibility into potential threats across their network.

“The deployment of CloudGuard’s MXDR service marked a significant milestone in Amazon Filters’ cybersecurity journey,” mentioned the IT Manager. “Automation is at the heart of CloudGuard’s Protect Plus MXDR service, which has only strengthened our security posture but also saved us time and resources.”

An impressive 98% of alerts were managed through automation within a 90-day timeframe, resulting in a time saving of at least 52 days compared to manual intervention. The continuous support provided by CloudGuard post-deployment has further solidified Amazon Filters’ confidence in the MXDR service.

“With CloudGuard as our security partner, we feel confident in our ability to navigate the evolving threat landscape and protect our business effectively,” the IT Manager elaborated.

Moving forward, the flexibility offered by CloudGuard’s solutions is regarded as crucial for adapting to Amazon Filters’ ever-evolving security requirements, ensuring CloudGuard remains a key component of their cybersecurity strategy.

The alliance with CloudGuard and the integration of the Protect Plus MXDR service have significantly uplifted Amazon Filters’ security posture, with automation now a key tenet of their security strategy, guaranteeing the enduring protection of their digital assets, data, and business continuity.

INTO University Partnerships’ NILE Division and English UK to Introduce Innovative TEFL Course

0

INTO University Partnerships’ division for teacher education, NILE, is joining forces with English UK to roll out an innovative TEFL course.

AccessTEFL, the programme in focus, intends to create opportunities for careers in English language teaching in the UK, combining on-the-job training with a structured CPD initiative.

Designed for those without a TEFL qualification, AccessTEFL will grant TEFLi status to its participants, making them suitable for teaching positions in line with Accreditation UK’s standards.

The scheme will be run by English UK, with day-to-day support, oversight and moderation from teacher training specialists from NILE – Norwich Institute for Language Education, part of the INTO University Partnerships group.

With a legacy of training over 70,000 teachers from around 90 countries since 1995, NILE is acclaimed for its professional development courses in English language teaching.

The rationale for this programme stems from the periodic assessment by Accreditation UK, which recognised the effectiveness of an apprenticeship model in teacher training.

In response, English UK has developed a low-cost qualification route aimed at increasing the quantity of qualified ELT professionals, making the field more accessible, and enhancing the support for new teachers. With the expert guidance of NILE’s teaching professionals, participants will gain vital skills relevant to the UK ELT scene, with their employing schools offering the required mentorship and professional development.

Thom Kiddle, NILE’s Director, stated his anticipation for the project: “We are excited to be working on a new project with the team at English UK – developing and managing a situated and supported CPD scheme, AccessTEFL, for new teachers joining English UK schools.”

“The scheme, to be launched later this year, will ensure new entrants to the profession are supported with structured, focused development activities, observation and feedback while they learn their craft and help accredited English UK members recruit teachers in combination with the traditional TEFLi routes.”

The AccessTEFL programme includes 40 hours of study and 80 hours of teaching practice, allowing candidates to receive mentorship and collaborate with seasoned teachers. The foundational courses cover The English Language, The English Language Learner, The English Language Classroom, and Reflective Practice.

Jodie Gray, Chief Executive of English UK, shared her enthusiasm for the programme’s inception: “We are delighted to launch ATEFL after many months planning. Many ELT centres have been struggling to hire enough qualified teachers to meet increasing student demand, and that could impede the continuing growth of UK ELT.”

“We believe ATEFL is a great way for centres to grow and develop their own staff, supporting people who are keen to teach English in the UK but who do not have a conventional TEFLi qualification. This is an affordable and accessible way for centres to train high-quality staff as part of their staff CPD, and we hope that as many as possible will be able to take advantage of it.”

Life360 Introduces Instant Landing Alerts for Enhanced Air Travel Insight within App

0
  • Rolling out this week, the product update alerts Life360 members when someone from their circle touches down from a flight.
  • The feature offers families added peace of mind as the 2024 travel season ramps up and is available to all Life360 members.

Gear up for ascent! Life360, the foremost app in family safety and locational services, cherished by over 66 million users each month, proudly unveils its most recent in-app innovation today: Landing Notifications. This cutting-edge functionality automatically informs members when anyone in their Circle has safely landed, thereby amplifying family reassurance. Debuting this week, Landing Notifications are designed to simplify monitoring the travel itineraries of family members for all Life360 users.

“As we introduce Landing Notifications, our aim remains consistent: to elevate the experience for our valued members,” declared Chris Hulls, Founder and CEO of Life360. “We are committed to equipping our members with tools that streamline their daily lives. We recognise the significance of travel within our community, and thus, Landing Notifications embodies our dedication to keeping our members seamlessly connected with their loved ones.”

Landing Notifications in the Life360 application provide a direct, real-time method to circumvent the typical delays and inaccuracies of standard flight tracking platforms, eliminating the need to wait for travel updates from the traveller themselves. The application does not require specific flight details to function and adeptly monitors all flights, be they domestic or international. By leveraging the mobile device’s sensors to gauge location, altitude, and speed, Life360’s flight detection algorithm precisely calculates both takeoff and landing times, maintaining accuracy even in airplane mode, ensuring Circle members receive notifications promptly upon the traveller’s reconnection to a network.

Additionally, Landing Notifications bring a novel movement indicator to the Life360 map, introducing an aircraft symbol for user’s first time. This indicator helps users see when a Circle member is airborne. The app displays different icons based on the mode of travel, enhancing the real-time understanding of Circle members’ whereabouts. These intuitive icons, alongside Focus Mode, allow for an immediate overview of a Circle member’s current velocity and position.

Life360, with its global user base of over 66 million and four million in the UK alone, empowers its community to share their live locations and movements with their closest contacts effortlessly. Beyond location sharing and Landing Notifications, Life360 enriches its suite of services with driving analytics, crash detection, emergency response, and more, all aimed at improving safety and connection. Life360’s ownership of Tile, the Bluetooth tracking brand, further enables users to integrate their most valued possessions and essentials into their Life360 map, ensuring effortless tracking and peace of mind for the entire family.

Real Madrid 3-3 Manchester City: Guardiola delighted with ‘personality’ of his players

0

Pep Guardiola was impressed with Manchester City’s “incredible personality” in the second half as they hit back to draw 3-3 at Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

City went ahead inside two minutes courtesy of Bernardo Silva’s brilliant free-kick only for a Ruben Dias own goal and a Rodrygo effort to put Madrid 2-1 up at the break.

Rahm doesn’t feel undercooked by playing on LIV Tour

Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol scored from outside the area to restore City’s advantage only for Federico Valverde to restore parity for Carlo Ancelotti’s men with a crisply struck volley.

Guardiola told TNT Sports: “We started really well but this is so difficult to come here, they defend really well and the pace they have up front is really amazing.

“We were a bit anxious with the ball in the first half we lost a lot of balls and when that happens this team are so difficult to play against. The second half we showed incredible personality in the way we played.

“To come back from two or three would be difficult in Manchester. We played with composure and scored two fantastic goals. Three-three we take it and we have to win the next game to get to the semi-final.”

On what he said to his players at half-time, former Barcelona boss Guardiola added: “Be more calm, move less, be safer with the ball and attack outside the areas. Be exactly what we talked about.

“I said it’s 45 minutes then 90 minutes so a lot of minutes left to play. Sometimes you want to be crazy but they did really well.”

City hammered Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad in the semi-finals of last year’s competition and Guardiola called on the club’s fans to get behind them next week to try to create a repeat result.

He added: “Next week we have our people, our people are there and we need all of them, the energy to beat the kings of this competition. We will go for it in Manchester with our people.”

The Masters 2024: Rahm insists competitive edge not reduced after LIV switch

Jon Rahm dismissed any notion of him being undercooked as he prepares to defend his Masters title this week at Augusta.

Having previously been a vocal critic of LIV Golf, the Spaniard made the shock decision to join the Saudi-backed tour in December last year in a deal worth a reported $300m.

He has played five LIV events this year, failing to win any, with each of them featuring a 54-hole format.

It has led to claims he may be short of top-level competition coming into the season’s first major but Rahm believes playing less may enhance his chances this weekend.

He said: “If anything, if I had to go based on how I feel today, on a Tuesday, I feel physically better than I did last year.

“But then once competition starts, it doesn’t really matter. Once the gun goes off, whatever you feel is out the window. You’ve got to go out there and post a score.

“It wouldn’t be the first time we hear somebody not feeling their best and winning. The first one that comes to mind is Ben Crenshaw after he lost his swing coach and to come back after being at the funeral and win it.

“So it’s not something that I have in mind [fewer competitive rounds], but I do feel fresh and ready for it.”

With so many of the game’s top players now with LIV, Rahm doesn’t feel his competitive edge has been dulled by leaving the PGA Tour.

He added: “The competition’s still there.

“Yeah, they’re smaller fields but you still have to beat some of the best players in the world and you still have to play at the same level you have to play on the PGA Tour to win those events.

“I understand there’s less people. I understand the team format’s a little different. I understand we’re going shotgun and things are a little bit different to how they are in a PGA Tour event.

“But the pressure’s there. I want to win as bad as I wanted to win before I moved on to LIV. Going down the stretch when you’re in contention is the exact same feelings. That really doesn’t change.”

Manchester United confirm Murtough departure

0

Manchester United have confirmed football director John Murtough is to leave the club.

Murtough has been at Old Trafford for almost 11 years but his exit was widely expected following Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of 27.7 per cent of the club and control of the football operation.

Ratcliffe has already started making moves at United, snatching Omar Berrada from Manchester City to become the club’s new chief executive while Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox are also expected to take up positions once compensation packages are negotiated with their current clubs, Newcastle United and Southampton.

That meant Murtough’s role was all but redundant, rendering today’s announcement a formality.

Ratcliffe said: “We want to thank John for his loyal service over many years, and for his support and integrity during this period of transition.

“He leaves with our best wishes for the future.”

United co-chairman Joel Glazer added: “After 11 years of tireless work for the club, John has mutually agreed with us that now is the right time to step aside and allow the new football leadership structure to be put in place.

“He will always be welcome back at Manchester United as a friend of the club.”

The departure of Murtough, who joined United in 2013 following spells at Everton and Fulham, won’t be mourned by many Red Devils supporters.

Having worked initially in scouting, he became the club’s head of football development in 2016 before being promoted to football director in 2021.

He was influential in the appointment of Erik ten Hag as coach in 2022 and oversaw huge investment in a playing squad that still looks well short of challenging the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League.

Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from the Monte Carlo Masters

World number three Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Monte Carlo Masters with an arm injury.

The Spaniard, who also missed this event last year due to injury, won the Masters event in Indian Wells last month before suffering a surprise quarter-final defeat to Grigor Dimitrov in Miami.

To miss the first major event of the clay court season is a blow for the 20-year-old who will now look to hone his preparation for the French Open in Barcelona and Madrid.

Alcaraz said on X: “I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play! I was really looking forward to playing… See you next year!”

Alcaraz reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros before going down in four sets to Novak Djokovic.
