All eyes on opticians’ new look to mark 6th anniversary

AN OPENSHAW opticians is about to undergo a £200,000 transformation to mark its 6th anniversary, which is set to transform the experience provided to the local community from early November.

The makeover of Specsavers in Lime Square Retail Park, will allow for more eye health, hearing health and contact lens appointments to be offered to customers than ever before.

To help the team of opticians and audiologists meet increasing customer demand, the store will expand the number of testing rooms from three to five, add an extra diagnostic area, a dedicated collection and adjustments bar as well as an extra dispensing unit.  A new visual fields machine will also be installed, which will enable the team to work with the DVLA to deliver drivers’ medical visual field and visual acuity testing for both ordinary drivers and vocational drivers licence holders.

In anticipation of the expansion, the store has recruited two new pre-registration optometrists and three new optical assistants and plans to make further appointments when the refit has been completed.

Rachel Harrison, retail director at Specsavers Openshaw, says: ‘Since we opened in 2016, we’ve steadily grown our customer base and as the local community increases, we need to invest in improving and updating our facilities to ensure we continue to deliver the highest standards of eye care and hearing care.

‘We’re so excited to be expanding and refreshing the store.  Our priority is to further enhance the customer experience and, with the changes we’re proposing, we’re sure customers will reap the benefits. We can’t wait to show off our new look in late autumn.’

The new-look store will feature five testing rooms, kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment including the latest hospital grade Optical Coherence Tomograpy (OCT) scanner, which helps an optometrist view the health of the eyes in greater detail. The hospital-grade technology can also help detect treatable eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration sooner.
