Wimbledon 2024: Djokovic slams ‘disrespectful crowd’ after Rune win

Novak Djokovic comfortably beat Holger Rune to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2024.

The Serbian No.2 seed won 3-6 4-6 2-6 but was unhappy with the crowd in centre court.

Those who had gathered in the stadium were clear in their support for Djokovic’s opponent, and the 37-year-old hit back after the match.

He said: “To all the fans that have had respect and stayed here tonight, I thAnk you from the bottom of my heart and I appreciate it.

“And to all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player (in this case me) have a goooooooood night.

“I know they were cheering for Rune but that’s an excuse to also boo.

“Listen, I have been on the tour for more than 20 years. I know all the tricks.

“I focus on the respectful people that pay for the ticket, and love tennis and appreciate the players. I played in much more hostile environments, trust me – you guys can’t touch me.”

Djokovic has never been the most popular tennis player, particularly at Wimbledon but he has rarely faltered on the court.

He moves on to the quarter-final against Alex De Minaur, while Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz, who stunned Alexander Zverev earlier in the day.
