Hairy Biker Dave Myers dies following cancer battle

Dave Myers – one half of the lively cooking duo The Hairy Bikers – has passed away at the age of 66.

He had bravely battled cancer for two years.

Hailing from Barrow-in-Furness, Myers rose to fame alongside his partner Si King two decades ago.

The iconic pair, known for their trademark beards, embarked on exhilarating journeys across the UK and beyond on their motorbikes, delighting audiences with their culinary explorations of diverse cuisines.

Together they produced the Hairy Bikers Ride Again, The Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain, The Hairy Bikers: Mums Know Best, The Hairy Bikers’ Cook Off and Hairy Bikers: Best of British – and published more than 25 cookbooks.

Myers also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013.

Lifetime bond

In a poignant tribute, his best friend, Si King expressed his profound loss, reminiscing about the enduring bond and camaraderie they shared throughout their remarkable journey together.

King said he had been at Dave’s bedside, with his family members, when he passed away peacefully.

His statement read: “I’m afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.”

“All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu, who Dave loved like his own.

“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow.

“I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”

Tributes

Food critic Jay Rayner wrote on X (Twitter): “This is very sad news. Dave was a brilliant cook, a superb communicator and most of all a seriously lovely man.”

“My thoughts are with his family and of course Si.”

Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood said it was “terrible news”.
