Luton v Manchester United: Hatters can ‘rock United off their rhythm’, says boss Edwards

Luton face in-form Manchester United tomorrow and manager Rob Edwards hopes his side can “rock them off their rhythm”.

The Hatters’ upward trajectory stalled last weekend with a 3-1 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Sheffield United but they get the chance to bounce back when Erik ten Hag’s men visit Kenilworth Road.

Edwards accepts his side will have to produce a much-improved performance if they want to claim a vital three points against a United side that have won five of their last six in all competitions.

He said: “We’ll have to try and play as well as we can, that’s obvious. If we play well we can rock them off their rhythm.

“We need to be brave and on the front foot and if we’re good we can stop them from having the game they want.

“If our performance is good enough then who knows, maybe we’ve got a chance. If we don’t perform to our maximum, they’re Manchester United.”

The game will see ex-United youngsters Teden Mengi and Tahith Chong face their former club and Edwards was quick to praise the duo for the impact they have made this season.

“Teden has been brilliant for us this year,” added Edwards. “For a younger player to step up, come away from home, out of his comfort zone, and perform at the highest level as he has is astounding.

“I’m not surprised with anything he does, but perhaps I was surprised by how quickly he adapted to his surroundings and his team-mates. Hopefully he’ll continue that.

“He has a high ceiling and I know he will be desperate to play this weekend.”

On Chong, he added: “Tahith Chong been really effective coming on, especially when there’s more space and we’re a transitional threat.

“He also gives us a bit of balance with a left-footer on that side and he’s certainly pushing for a start. He’s shown many strengths in many areas and he’s somebody who trains full throttle every single day.”
