Ten Hag won’t rule out loan moves at Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has refused to rule out dipping into the loan market in the January transfer window.

United progressed through to the fourth round of the FA Cup last night with a 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic despite a list of absentees that included injured winger Antony and ill pair Christian Eriksen and forward Amad Diallo.

That trio joined the likes of Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Casemiro and Mason Mount on the sidelines, leaving United short as they look to maintain their challenge for a Champions League qualifying spot.

Last January, Ten Hag signed Netherlands striker Wout Weghorst on a surprise loan deal and is again considering short-term options to bolster his squad.

He said: “We consider everything, so what is the best interests of the player and what is the best interest of us, for our team and for Manchester United.

“We will see how it progresses during the window.”

United host Tottenham on Sunday, their final game before a two-week winter break, and Ten Hag is hoping to have some of his walking wounded available.

He added: “Yeah. I think there will be some players, I think it’s hopeful that they can be back at the weekend.

“So I’m talking about Christian Eriksen, potentially Luke Shaw. Harry maybe, Mason I think he needs some days or a week more.”
