Northenden Community Library reopens in new home in the village

Northenden Community Library has a new home in St Wilfrid’s Church Hall from the new year.

The Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG), Parkway Green building on Palatine Road which has housed the library for ten years is now being repurposed.

The community will re-open in Northenden village on January 2 in St Wilfrid’s Church Hall on Ford Lane, Northenden.

Run with the help of volunteers community library offers access to the full book lending service of Manchester Libraries.

It will continue to host, the very popular story time sessions for tots and toddlers on Friday mornings at 11am, an Age Friendly hour from 2pm – 4.30pm on Tuesdays for older residents who would like to pop in for a brew and a chat and the popular monthly book club, in the new premises.

Councillor John Hacking, said: “Having spent many happy years at the Parkway Green House building I would like to thank Wythenshawe Community Housing Group for hosting the library in their premises for 10 years.

“I’m really pleased that we have been able to find another premises in Northenden, to ensure that a library service is retained in the village. Our heartfelt thanks go to St Wilfrid’s Church for giving us space in their church hall, our new home and I know that the volunteers and staff will be looking forward to welcoming visitors to the new venue and look forward to working in partnership with the team at St Wilfrid’s for many years to come.”

The community room in St Wilfrid’s Church Hall has been modernised and redecorated for the library and the opening times are the same as before :
* Monday to Thursday 2pm to 5pm
* Friday 10am to 1pm
* Age-friendly hours – Tuesday 2pm to 4.30pm
