Manchester United defender Lindelof: We know what we have to do differently

Victor Lindelof claims he knows what Manchester United have to do differently when Chelsea visit Old Trafford tonight.

United’s players have been hit with a wave of criticism following a woeful display in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Newcastle, with pundits questioning their commitment while there have also been reports of dressing room mutiny towards coach Erik ten Hag.

The weekend defeat saw United slip to seventh in the Premier League table but Sweden defender Lindelof is confident of an improved showing against Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

He told MUTV: “Obviously after a defeat, you’re not happy and I don’t think we performed well in that game [at Newcastle]. We played against a good opponent who are strong at home but we didn’t reach the level we wanted to in that game.

“Every defeat at this club is not good enough but we have moved on and we have another big game coming up.

“After a defeat it’s hard to find positive things. We have gone through it and we know what we have to do differently and hopefully we can do that in the next game.”

The atmosphere could turn hostile tonight if Saturday’s lacklustre performance is repeated but Lindelof dismissed the notion that playing at home increases the pressure on the players.

“I always want to play at home,” said the 29-year-old, “all the guys do as well.

“We play in our home, with our fans. It’s always a great atmosphere and a pleasure to be at Old Trafford, everyone is looking forward to it.

“It’s up to us to go out there and show what type of team we are and after a defeat you want to play the next game and put things right.

“They [Chelsea] are a very good team. It will be a difficult game, as it always is against them, and we’ll have to be at 100 per cent if we are going to beat them.”
