England’s Curry ruled out of Six Nations with hip injury

Tom Curry has been ruled out of England’s Six Nations campaign with a hip injury, with fears his entire season could be over.

Having helped England to a third-placed finish at the World Cup in France, Curry’s recent visit to a specialist to establish the best solution for his hip problem concluded that surgery will be needed.

The flanker will undergo that operation in early December, meaning he will definitely miss the Six Nations, which gets underway in February, while his Sale season could also be over.

Alex Sanderson, the club’s director of rugby, said: “Tom has been back down to London to have further extensive X-rays under movement with a different consultant and this is the best thing for him in the short term.”

Curry missed the 2023 Six Nations after suffering a hamstring injury, as well as the build-up to the World Cup with ankle ligament damage.

Sanderson is confident Curry can get over his recent fitness problems, stating: “He’s still a young lad and it’s the best thing for him in the short-term to ensure he’s able to be more robust moving forward and to train and progress his game the way he wants to.

“I’m sure there will be ebbs and flows over the next four or five months and I hope to be part of that journey with him as we get him back to where he needs to be.”
