Just Stop Oil plans ‘go slow’ march in Manchester on Saturday 28th January

Supporters of Just Stop Oil are planning a ‘go slow’ march in Manchester City centre next Saturday morning (28 Jan).

They are demanding that the government stops all new UK oil and gas projects.

Just Stop Oil supporters adopted the new tactic of slowing traffic to a crawling pace by marching slowly along roads across London in December. The Manchester action follows the group’s first Northern slow march in Sheffield on Thursday 18th January.

The actions in the North are being carried out in defiance of the Prime Minister’s recent threat to crack down on the ‘go slow’ marches. Further such actions are planned across the north over the coming months.

David Nixon, a Just Stop Oil supporter who plans to attend the march, said “The government is intent on crushing anyone who opposes its broken regime. Whether it’s union members demanding fair pay and working conditions, or ordinary people demanding a liveable future for their children, the government is silencing dissent by introducing ever more draconian laws to criminalise us. We all need to stand up against this monstrous attack on our democracy and on our very survival before it’s too late. Join us”.

Just Stop Oil is hosting a talk entitled “Our Responsibilities at This Time” on Sunday 22nd January, 2pm at Hulme Community Garden Centre.
