Staff development in the frame for two local opticians

TWO LOCAL opticians are supporting seven members of their teams as they focus on gaining new skills, expanding their knowledge and attaining further qualifications.

Yasir Ali and Nousheen Nousheen who both work at Specsavers in Middleton Shopping Centre are progressing their optics careers, with Yasir starting his pre-registration qualifications this month after spending the past three years working weekends and during his holidays from the University of Manchester, where he was studying optometry. Whilst Nousheen Nousheen, a resident dispensing optician at the store for the past 12 months, is starting a contact lens optician course on a day release basis at Bradford College.

Contact lens optician, Zoe Hotchkiss, who has spent the past 15 years working between Specsavers Middleton and Specsavers Heaton Park, in Sainsbury’s on Heaton Park Road, has just started a course to further develop her career so she can carry out minor eye condition clinics.  As well as enhancing her own knowledge, Zoe is helping others to develop.  Working alongside Nousheen she is supervising Peter Cox who is now in his second year of his dispensing optician course.

Optical assistant, Lina Thompson, who has spent the past four years working at the Middleton store is starting her certificate four in Optical Dispensing and has already set her sights on a dispensing optician course, which she hopes to start next year.

Meanwhile team members at the Heaton Park store are also focussed on personal development, with Amir Masood starting his pre-registration qualifications this month.  Amir has spent the past four years working weekends and during holidays whilst studying optometry at the University of Manchester.  He is being supervised by resident optometrist, Aquib Irfan who joined the business in the summer and will start his independent prescribing course this month.

Together the team are working with Specsavers Middleton and Specsavers Heaton Park store directors, Kimberley Etchells and Krupal Sheth to build a qualified, professional team who are well equipped to meet the needs of communities closest to both stores.

Kimberley Etchells, Specsavers Middleton and Heaton Park store director says, ‘’We are committed to supporting the team progress professionally and gain new qualifications. These opportunities not only help colleagues on a personal level as they further their careers but also result in even better customer care for the community.’
