Duerr’s digs deep for Joshua Tree kids

0

Manchester based jam and preserve maker, Duerr’s, has joined The Joshua Tree charity to start work on a new adventure playground in Cheshire designed specifically for children living with the life-changing experience of childhood cancer.

The playground is being made possible thanks to a donation of £40,000, which was raised by Duerr’s at its annual ball which took place in November last year.

The £40k Duerr’s raised will build a brand new all-ability playground at the support centre The Joshua Tree is building in Sandiway, Northwich and is due to open in 2019.

The Joshua Tree charity supports families across the North West and North Wales living with childhood cancer, providing help that is tailored to their needs.

The extensive, all access outdoor play area will provide families visiting its centre with a vital chance to play without risk of infection; a crucial consideration for immunosuppressed children who are advised not to play in public playcentres or playgrounds when undergoing treatment. It will also provide families with a space to receive therapy through play, enabling them to build memories together during a challenging time.

Its features will include a tree house, a story telling chair, musical play, an outdoor gym, rope climbs, scramble nets and a water wall. All of which are designed to encourage imaginative and social play and to allow children of different abilities to play side by side.

The money raised at Duerr’s Tutti Fruiti 1950s themed evening, held at The Mere resort in Cheshire, was thanks to a packed room of 350 plus guests who dug deep for a variety of money-can’t-buy auction and raffle prizes, including diamond earrings and an Armani watch.

Reflecting on the impact of the donation from the 18th charity ball held by the company, Director of Marketing, Richard Duerr, says: “We chose to support The Joshua Tree charity because of the excellent work they carry out helping families in the North West during an incredibly traumatic time. We would like to thank our extended family of friends, colleagues and suppliers for continuing to support us and our charity efforts.”

Joshua Hill, who the charity is named after, attended the ball with his parents Lynda and David. David says: “The adventure playground will make a massive difference to the many families, who access The Joshua Tree services. We would like to say a massive thank you to Duerr’s for making this possible.”

Peter Smith from The Joshua Tree adds: “The Joshua Tree Support Centre will provide an appropriate environment for our families accommodating children of all ages from toddlers through to teenagers.

“It will feature a multi-functional activity room, private counselling and therapy suites, office facilities and meeting room, a community ‘heart space’ area with access to a kitchen stocked with family meals, soft play and sensory equipment, a games room and, importantly, an extensive play area – thanks to this funding from Duerr’s – which will be surrounded by landscaped gardens.”

Greater Manchester businesses urged to unleash their innovation by partnering with universities

Established small and medium-sized businesses in Greater Manchester have the chance to work with local universities and leading regional research establishments thanks to GC Business Growth Hub’s Innovation Voucher scheme.

Up to £5,000 of Innovation Vouchers, which must be 100% matched funded by the company themselves, can be applied for ahead of June 30th, which is the end of the current funding round.

Businesses who are successful will then get to invest the vouchers into product design, research and development, knowledge transfer, consultancy support and other services at one of Greater Manchester’s four universities or a similar research-led institution.

Chris Greenhalgh, head of innovation at GC Business Growth Hub, said: “Business projects that are struggling to make progress because of difficulties in accessing the right expertise or equipment can really benefit from the Innovation Voucher scheme.

“They help SMEs to unlock the wealth of expertise, facilities and insights which exists within Greater Manchester’s four universities and other research-centred organisations in the region.  However, the deadline to apply for this round of funding is June 30th so the clock is ticking.”

One Greater Manchester firm which has taken advantage of Innovation Vouchers is Levitex Foams in Hale.

They successfully applied for funding allowing them to undertake a project with University of Salford. CEO James Leinhardt said: “The application process was quick and easy, and we were working on our project with the university within two weeks. I’d really encourage other SMEs to apply – it was a no-brainer for me.”

Successful applicants must be a small to medium sized enterprise and will be required to match the exact value of the Innovation Voucher.

For example, businesses applying for the maximum voucher of £5,000 will need to contribute an additional £5,000 (and the full VAT cost) of their own money to create a total Innovation Voucher fund of £10,000 (ex VAT).

The minimum contribution from businesses is £3,000, though smaller exceptional projects may be considered for product development and prototyping projects.

Topping out celebrates construction milestone at Islington Wharf Locks in Manchester

0

Urban waterfront regeneration specialists, Waterside Places, has marked a major milestone at Islington Wharf Locks, the third phase of homes at its Islington Wharf scheme in Ancoats, with a traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony.

The event – which celebrates the construction of the building reaching its highest point – was attended by representatives from Waterside Places and Eric Wright Construction, who are delivering the project.

The first homes will be ready to move into from summer 2019. Once completed, the scheme will feature a mix of apartments; two, three and four-bedroom mews houses and three and four-bedroom town houses set around a central courtyard on the banks of the Ashton Canal.

The first homes were released for sale off-plan in April with a number of properties snapped up by purchasers over the launch weekend.

Andrew Barton, project manager at Waterside Places said: “The topping out event marks a key milestone in the progress and delivery of this sought-after residential area in Manchester city centre. Waterside Places recognised early on the potential of Ancoats and now, more than a decade after we first started building homes here, it is one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in the city. The area has really evolved over the years and now benefits from brilliant local amenities, including New Islington School, and a growing number of bars, restaurants and cultural facilities which are attracting people of all ages to put down roots here.”

John Wilson, managing director at Eric Wright Construction, said: “Today marks the team’s achievements since starting on site and is an important milestone towards completion early next year. Islington Wharf is one of a number of urban living schemes that we’re underway with throughout central Manchester.  The scheme has also created numerous jobs locally with more than 70 per cent of the project team living in the area and we’re also committed to upskilling the local workforce by offering apprenticeships and work placements throughout the project.”

Homes at Islington Wharf Locks have been thoughtfully designed to make the most of this waterside setting with every home offering its own outdoor space including balconies, roof or garden terraces and courtyards.

There are a range of layouts to choose from, offering a home to suit every life stage from first-time buyers to second-steppers and growing families. Every home features fully-fitted kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites and high-quality fixtures and fittings throughout. Selected townhouses and mews homes also offer garages – a rarity in the city centre.

With the finishing touches currently being undertaken on site, The Anthologist is due to open at One St Peter’s Square, Manchester on Monday July 2nd, promising a relaxed all-day bar and restaurant perfect for everything from breakfast meetings to client updates over lunch, after work drinks or dinner with friends. An invite-only launch party will follow on Thursday July 5th.

The Anthologist will be Drake & Morgan’s second site in the city centre, the ‘big sister’ to The Refinery in Spinningfields, bringing a constant flow of new drinks and dishes from across the globe, a unique range of innovative cocktails and all-day dining.

This new northern bar and restaurant is located in one of Manchester’s most sought-after locations, offering an everyday escape right in the heart of the city. The beautiful external planted terrace will offer all-year round alfresco drinking and dining, perfect for people-watching with a glass of rosé.

Open seven days a week, The Anthologist will feature an open kitchen and a striking cocktail bar, with distinctive dining areas complemented by the soft finishing touches of copper herb pots, warm tea lights and gorgeous cushions and blankets. The Anthologist offers both a chic and cosy setting for everything from quick breakfast meetings through to long, lazy brunches and cocktails with the girls.

Drake & Morgan managing director Jillian MacLean said: “We are delighted to be opening our second bar and restaurant in Manchester. We have a genuine affection for Manchester and its people. It’s a very proud and distinctively different city that does things in its own unique style.

“That fact has underpinned our approach with The Anthologist in Manchester. We want to introduce a refreshingly independent bar-restaurant experience that comes with a few new exciting additions for our lovely customers and feels very much part of this great city.”

In the first two weeks after launch, guests can enjoy special offers at The Anthologist, with 50% off food for bookings between Monday July 2nd – Sunday July 8th, and 25% off food for bookings between Monday July 9th – Sunday July 15th. Reservations can be made from today (Friday 1stJune) via [email protected].

And let’s not forget the dogs. The Anthologist is a renowned dog-friendly bar and restaurant and positively encourages dog-owners to bring along their beloved pooch when they pop in for some overdue R&R.

The Anthologist also has a trick or two up its sleeve for summer 2018 when it comes to its food and drink offering.

Proving no salad ever needs to be boring, they’ve taken inspiration from the ‘godfather of fusion’ – chef, restaurateur and food writer, Peter Gordon. Inspired by Peter’s book ‘Savour – Salads for All Seasons’, there are five salads to showcase Peter’s legendary flair for fusing interesting global ingredients and flavours to create delicious dishes.

Must tries include baby beetroot with broad beans, goat’s curd and hazelnuts; kohlrabi with watermelon, tofu, mangetout and candied walnuts; and roast cauliflower with seeds, olives, broad beans, peas and olive tapenade.

Also, on the menu is an exciting array of vegetarian and vegan options sure to appeal to even the most committed of carnivores with must-tries including a flat mushroom burger with smoked vegan mozzarella, tomato and beetroot hummus; pearl barley risotto, watercress, asparagus and vegan pecorino; and avocado hummus on toasted gluten-free flat bread with dukkah and pomegranate.

Then there’s The Anthologist’s small plates, sharing boards, burgers and mains featuring impeccably sourced meat, fish and seafood such as a seabass with wilted greens and beurre blanc or chicken wings with maple, ale and chilli glaze.

Business breakfasts and brunches never looked better with dishes such as fritters with poached egg, labneh and mint; ricotta bruschetta with lemon, basil and honey; and grilled pink grapefruit with crème fraiche and pistachios. The Full Works comes as a vegetarian plate as well as the classic and you can top-up on your five a day with fresh juices and smoothies, blended to order.

They’ve got it covered when it comes to cocktails too. The cocktail list has a distinctly botanical feel with creations by Drake & Morgan mixologist Fabrizio Cioffi, in partnership with London Essence and Chris Edwards of cocktail consultancy ‘Salts of the Earth’.

Innovative, bespoke cocktails include the Yoga Mat & Cha, a blend of spit-roasted pineapple gin by the Boutique-y Gin Company, yoghurt, almond milk, honey green tea, baking soda, lemon, sage and hazelnut and the Grassland with Ketel One vodka, absinthe, apple juice, lemon, dandelion and burdock bitters, grapefruit and rosemary tonic. An extended range of zero proof concoctions have also been introduced, many of which are super skinny coming in at less than 50 calories.

The Anthologist opens as multi-billion-pound regeneration plans to transform St Peter’s Square and the vicinity are well underway. At the heart of the transformation is a new sleek office block, right next to One St Peter’s Square. The £100m Landmark Manchester is due to be delivered in the first half of 2019.

AD Merchandise Ltd completes successful buyout after nearly a decade in business

0

AD Merchandise has successfully completed a partner buyout, giving Amo Singh full ownership of the promotional merchandise distributor based in Old Trafford, Manchester.

Having grown the business to a turnover of £3.5 million alongside co-founder David Moodie, the deal comes as part of a planned restructure to unlock the company’s next chapter of growth.

Amo and David established AD Merchandise in October 2009, bringing together decades’ worth of experience and a passion to develop a profitable business with solid systems and processes and robust, ethical management.

Since then, the company has grown to 16 people, achieved ISO 9001 and 14001 certification, and become one of only a handful of UK companies with BPMA (British Promotional Merchandise Association) Charter Status. A planned exit for David was in the business plan from the outset, and the founders’ commitment to upholding service, quality and environmental standards has enabled them to achieve this ahead of AD Merchandise’s 10th anniversary.

“I’m thrilled at the completion of the deal and I know that Amo will continue to run the business to the high standards we set ourselves,” said David.

“I’m looking forward to being able to contribute in my new role as Chairman, and I wish Amo and the team all the success for the future.”

AD Merchandise has experienced significant growth to date by working with stakeholders right through the supply chain as partners. Now, having taken full ownership of the company, Amo is excited about future prospects: “Our standing within the industry, together with the quality of our customer base and our reputation amongst them, is excellent: my team and I can’t wait to push on and make AD the best in our industry. We have plans to continue developing and empowering the team in a rewarding work environment, and this will be a catalyst for further success.”

“I grew up in Old Trafford, and in fact walked past the very building in which we are based on my way to school. For me, it seemed a natural decision to set up here when we established AD Merchandise nine years ago, and I’m proud to have built a business hub that contributes to so many in the place that shaped who I am today.”

“By creating more jobs in the area and working closely with local suppliers, colleges and charities, I hope that we are able to maintain the high standard for which we are renowned and make a positive impact – not just in Old Trafford, but nationwide.”

Visualsoft hires wave of new recruits as part of growth strategy

0

Leading e-commerce and digital agency, Visualsoft, has recently recruited 20 new employees as part of its ongoing growth strategy.

The team expansion has taken place across its Stockton, Newcastle and Manchester offices, to keep up with its rapidly increasing client list.

From social media executives and digital marketing consultants, to client relationship managers and developers, Visualsoft’s latest additions will contribute towards executing high quality digital campaigns to strengthen and improve the online presence of its 1000-strong retail client base.

Online shopping in the UK now equates to £1.1 billion every week, which stresses the importance for retailers to create a strong digital presence in order to keep up with changing buying trends.

For this reason, the business is busier than ever and welcomes the widespread recruitment drive to help fulfill the rising demand within this sector.

Visualsoft now has a growing team of over 230 staff who specialise in the design, build, support and marketing of online stores for retailers across the UK, including the Lakes Distillery, Montane and Moda in Pelle.

Dean Benson, CEO of Visualsoft, said: “With the ecommerce and digital marketing sector continuing to grow, this is an exciting time for us and one that we can’t wait to share with our new recruits.

“An effective online strategy is becoming increasingly important for retailers and rightfully so, as this has the potential to boost sales and help brands stay ahead of competitors. Businesses that fail to do this are set to struggle a lot more in upcoming months than those who embrace digital. Our existing team, along with the latest additions, are all experienced in reinforcing retailers’ online presence, so we are looking forward to seeing what positive outcomes appear as a result of our work throughout 2018.”

Alix Bolton, Visualsoft’s head of people, said: “It’s such an exciting time to be joining the business – we’re 20 this year and plan on continuing our impressive growth journey in 2018 and beyond, so having the very best people to make that happen is fantastic.

“Our people are at the heart of everything we do and a lot of work is going into how we shape and manage our people strategies so that we can continue to attract, develop and support the very best talent.”

Global customer data science company agree 10-year lease at Manchester’s City Tower

0

Schroder Real Estate Investment Management (“Schroders”) has agreed a new 10-year lease with dunnhumby UK at City Tower Manchester.

The global leader in Customer Data Science, whose clients include Kellogg’s, Tesco, Coca Cola, Nestle, P&G and Unilever, has taken 8,985 s q ft across the entire 23rd floor of City Tower.

The deal takes total income since the 2017 refurbishment of the 28-storey vertical business district to over £1.4 million.

Rob Cosslett, Investment Manager at Schroder Real Estate, said last year’s refurbishment of the Piccadilly Gardens-base tower was instrumental in dunnhumby renewing its lease.

He said: “It is really positive to see continued commitment of dunnhumby to City Tower.

“It is our long-term plan to continually enhance the offer at City Tower to meet the changing needs of the workforce. The signing of these new lease terms is testament to the quality of the offering post refurbishment and the level of available amenity that surrounds the building.”

Founded in 1989, dunnhumby is a global leader in customer data science, and empowers retail businesses and brands everywhere to thrive and compete in the modern data-driven economy.

Analysts use the power of data and insights – building innovative software using Cloud, Machine Learning and AI to create customer-first, personalised in-store, digital and mobile experiences.

Last year’s refurbishment of the Piccadilly-based tower saw the ground floor atrium and reception area transformed to incorporate a business lounge and formal meeting rooms, booths and additional retail units.

Renovation also included 36,400 sq ft of high quality office space across four floors as well as repositioning of the ground floor reception and lift lobbies throughout the building to support the 3,000 people who work in City Tower.

The refurbishment was designed to create a high-quality environment with the capacity to entertain and impress visitors, whilst also providing more relaxing areas for interacting with colleagues.

This news follows a raft of lease renewals late 2017, across an additional XXXX sq ft of space within the building, with tenants including popular coffee chain Starbucks and IT business solutions provider, Access Systems.

City Tower is owned in a joint venture held between Schroder Real Estate Investment Trust, the actively managed UK REIT, Schroder UK Real Estate Fund and Immobilien Europa Direkt.

Scott Shufflebottom, Associate Director at Colliers International, commented: “dunnhumby are global leaders in their field and securing them as tenants for a further 10 years goes a long way to validate our strategy to reposition the asset and take advantage of the city centre’s rental growth, delivering strong returns.”

“Bee in The City” art trail for Far East Consortium (FEC) as it sponsors Cottonopolis sculpture

0

A 3D bee, inspired by Manchester’s industrial heritage, is being sponsored by Far East Consortium (FEC), developers of MeadowSide, the £200m residential development of 756 new homes for sale across four buildings, bordering Angel Meadow Park, one of the city’s largest open green spaces.

Named Cottonopolis, the 1.5 metres high, 3D bee construction, is being designed and painted by York-based artist, Leah Pendleton, who has drawn inspiration from Manchester’s role in the industrial revolution as home to fabric production.

Leah’s design features spools of bold, coloured thread reflecting the vibrancy of the city weaved together against a black background alluding to the dark, smoky skies that hung over Manchester in its cotton producing heyday.

The bee, which is currently being created in an art studio in Mayfield Depot in central Manchester, will be unveiled when it is moved to Angel Meadow, which was at the heart of the cotton producing district and housed many of the industries’ workers, on 17 July.

It will join over 100 other Bees on a spectacular public art trail taking place across Manchester this summer, presented by Wild In Art and Manchester City Council. Each Bee has been designed by a different artist and celebrates the unique buzz of Manchester, from its industrial heritage to its vibrant music scene. The art trail is raising money for The Lord Mayor’s We Love MCR Charity when all the bees are auctioned in October this year.

To reward visitors to the bee, FEC has joined forces with Cottonopolis Food and Liquor, the popular bar and restaurant on Newton Street in the city’s Northern Quarter, to offer a honey-inspired dessert. The Milk and Honey Sundae will be free to the first five visitors each day who unlock the reward on their Bee in the City app when they visit the Cottonopolis bee located at Angel Meadow. Made from honey, condensed milk ice cream, yuzu, caramelised chocolate, peanuts and honeycomb and served in a honey pot with a stick covered in honey by its side, the irresistible dessert will also be available at Cottonopolis for £6 per serving during the course of Bee in the City project and £1 will be donated to the charity for each sundae served.

Andrew Bradley Nixon, Senior Sales and Marketing Manager for MeadowSide, said: “FEC is participating in what is the biggest art trail the city has ever seen and it will really put our MeadowSide development at Angel Meadow on the map.  We offer a rare green space in the city centre and our bee will take pride of place at the entrance to the park where visitors can come and take a stroll or relax in the verdant surroundings.”

Sankeys announces return to Manchester with huge Victoria Warehouse show in September

0

Sankeys has been synonymous with Manchester forever, and after a long wait the world famous brand returns to its spiritual homeland on Saturday 8th September. Entitled Sankeys… The Return, the sure-to-be-spectacular party will be their biggest yet and lands at the 5000 capacity Victoria Warehouse with a line-up that embodies everything Sankeys is all about.

There has been something truly missing on the Manchester clubbing landscape since Sankeys closed its doors in January 2017. For more than 20, the club had lead the way when it came to underground music culture. It established the city on the world stage with influential brands, DJs and residents bringing people from all over the world to experience its events. Offering the best line-ups each and every week, all playing out in their famously gritty, no-frills home of Beehive Mills in Ancoats, it was a place like no other. The magic of those historic years will be recaptured at Victoria Warehouse, which itself has a real history thanks to hosting special one off events from some of dance music biggest stars, as well as a techno mini festival from the world famous Awakenings and of course a number of Sankeys parties with the likes of Basement Jaxx and Armand Van Helden.

It is an innovative space dating back to the 1900s with an industrial aesthetic, powerful sound system and immersive production. Sankeys will add their own spin with light and laser shows and ensure the whole venue comes alive with their usual sense of rave spirt. This is their boldest project to date. The line-up to be revealed nearer the time will bring together long time Sankeys favourites and international headliners so keep your eyes peeled.

10% of all profits for the event will be donated to the families of the victims of the tragic Manchester Arena bombing last year.
