Manchester projects win at RICS North West regional awards

The winners of the RICS Awards 2024 in the North West have been revealed, with some  impressive recent building projects from the local area making the cut.

The winning projects, which were announced at the regional ceremony in No. 8, Manchester, were judged across five categories; Residential Development, Community Benefit, Heritage, Public Sector, Refurbishment-Revitalisation.

Silk Street in Newton Heath – which provides 69 high-quality, low-carbon homes for affordable social rent – was revealed as the winner of the Public Sector Project category.

New Victoria (pictured) won in the Residential Development category. As quantity surveyor on the £110M+ award-winning PRS scheme “New Victoria” for Muse, Walker Sime played a pivotal role in the delivery of a 520-apartment scheme which was completed nine months ahead of schedule and on budget.

Grade II listed Castlefield Viaduct came up top in the Community Benefit Project category. It has been restored and reinvented in a pilot scheme led by the National Trust and designed by Twelve Architects.

The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They recognise outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies.

The regional winners have now been shortlisted for the RICS Awards Grand Final, taking place in The Park Plaza Riverbank, London on Friday, October 4.

Each project will compete at national level, with one of the national winning projects being awarded the ultimate accolade of Project of the Year.

Peter Gilliland, chair of the North West RICS Awards judging panel, said: “These winning projects are a true testament to the hard work and dedication of industry professionals in the North West. The talent and collaborative approaches undertaken by the teams behind these projects have resulted in exemplary and innovative schemes that really do represent the very best built projects across the North West.”
