Manchester United’s 7-0 humiliation at Liverpool will not be repeated – Saha

Louis Saha is confident Manchester United’s humiliation at Anfield last season will not be repeated on Sunday despite their current struggles.

United lost 7-0 to Liverpool in March with Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez each scoring twice.

And with Erik ten Hag’s side going into the game on the back of their European exit last night – they finished bottom of Champions League Group A after losing 1-0 at home to Bayern Munich – there is fear among the United support that another embarrassing defeat could be on the cards.

Former United striker Saha believes personal pride will prevent that happening.

He told Sky Sports News: “They will be motivated to not repeat this disaster. It was a humiliation.

“Anyone with determination should not allow this to happen again. When you lose a game like that you don’t have a solution straight away but you have the spirit and engagement to understand that it’s not going to happen again. You have to have that determination.”

Saha is even confident a trip to league leaders Liverpool will be a match to “enjoy” for United fans, adding: “Losing a game is something we can all accept but losing the game as they did last year was unacceptable so I don’t think this will be reproduced.

“I think it will be a game to watch and enjoy. It is up to them [United] to start well, have good energy levels and confidence to produce some challenges [for Liverpool], pose some questions for their defence.

“Liverpool, as with any team, have weaknesses and we need to show that.”
