Results positive for Stockport College

Students and staff at Stockport College are celebrating another year of positive results in GCSE and functional skills Maths and English along with some impressive 100% pass rates across a wide range of Vocational and Technical courses.

Many of the students sitting exams were re-taking their GCSE maths and/or English as they had not achieved a grade C at school, whilst others were studying functional skills. Pass rates for Maths have risen by over 4% and the pass rate for English is showing an improving trend.

Yanli Volavola, who commuted from Macclesfield to come to Stockport College, passed her English GCSE which will now allow her to continue onto university and study for a degree in adult nursing at Chester University. She said of her results: “I couldn’t believe it when I opened my results, I was really surprised. I wasn’t really confident because the exam was difficult and because of the new grading of GCSEs.”

It’s not the first time that Yanli has experienced the nerves of results day as last year she received her maths and Science results, gaining an A* in maths.

A large number of students excelled in a range of vocational courses with 100% pass rate which included: Art & Design, Beauty Therapy, Professional Cookery, Health, Fitness & Exercise Instruction, Hairdressing and Performing Engineering Operations.

Stockport College Deputy Principal, Amanda Kennedy, said: “We are very proud of our students who have done brilliantly. Many students come to us to improve their grades, follow their career aspirations, or further their studies, and it is often a life changing journey for them. On behalf of the whole College, I would like to wish our students all the best for the future and good luck with achieving their next goals. I would like to thank the staff in the College for helping the students to gain the success they deserve”.
