Andrew Flintoff’s reintegration into top level cricket continued today with the former England all-rounder named the new coach of the Northern Superchargers.
Flintoff, 45, has carved out a successful career in television since hanging up his boots, most notably on Top Gear.
However, a serious accident while filming the BBC programme last December has prompted a shift back towards his first love and he took on an informal role with the England coaching staff during their World Cup warm-up games over the summer.
He was today named coach of the Leeds-based Superchargers, who play in the Hundred, succeeding former England wicketkeeper James Foster.
He said: “I am excited to have been appointed head coach of the Northern Superchargers men’s team.
“My time with the England Men’s team has been a reminder of just how special cricket is to me, and I’m relishing the opportunity to be back amongst it, helping to guide the Superchargers team to success on the field while making memories off it and helping to take cricket to more people.
“The Superchargers have a great fan base who I cannot wait to meet and bring along with us this season. I’m looking forward to making Headingley my new home.”
