Organised crime group members jailed for 37 years

Members of an organised crime group –  including two brothers – have been jailed for a total of 37 years for their part in running a Class A drug line.

Police conducted an operation into the line called ‘Deno’, of which the head was Kamran Jhangir.

Alongside his brother, Khashif Jhangir and four associates, he would use the drug line to supply crack and heroin, using fake lighters to avoid detection when stopped by police.

The following sentences have been handed out:

  • Kamran Jhangir (31) of Champneys Walk, Manchester, was sentenced to 10 years for conspiracy to supply class A drugs heroin and cocaine, possession of criminal property and possession with intent to supply class A drugs heroin and cocaine
  • Kashif Jhangir (33) of Glenburn Street, Bolton, was sentenced to 6 years 4 months for conspiracy to supply class A drugs heroin and cocaine
  • Mohammed Nivyaan Maskeen (29) of Caledonia Street, Bolton, was sentenced to 6 years 4 months for conspiracy to supply class A drugs heroin and cocaine
  • Eugen-Dan Preda (48) of Ashley Lane, Manchester, was sentenced to 5 years for conspiracy to supply class A drugs heroin and cocaine
  • Rebin Khoshnaw (26) of Biddisham Walk, Manchester, was sentenced to 5 years 10 months for conspiracy to supply class A drugs heroin and cocaine
  • Ali Alawadie (19) of Longshaw Close, Manchester, was sentenced to 30 months for conspiracy to supply class A drugs heroin and cocaine.

The case

Back in September 2022, police carried out warrants.  A mobile phone belonging to Kamran Jhangir was seized in Harpurhey, while in Bolton officers found a large-scale drug operation with evidence of multiple stages in the process in the property’s garage.

Detective sergeant Jamie Heaton said: “This was a lengthy investigation which has resulted in substantial sentences for six individuals who were members of an organised crime group, blighting the local community with drugs supply.

“Following the warrants, both the Jhangir brothers’ phones were seized and revealed the brothers conspiring with a number of individuals to sell class A drugs, ultimately linking them to the warrant address and evidence that they are running the ‘Deno’ drug line.

“There were large quantities of wholesale of suspected class A drugs, nearly 250g of cocaine, 497g of heroin and a small quantity of amphetamines; a collection of smaller, individually wrapped quantities of class A drugs ready to be dealt at street level and on a table were individual deals which were in the process of being wrapped.

“GMP is dedicated to relentlessly pursuing and disrupting serious criminality, and we are determined to continue to bring criminals to justice and remove them from the law-abiding communities that they are harming.”

Drug activity taking place in any Greater Manchester community, can be reported to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or to GMP on 101.
