Arrests made following assault in Piccadilly Gardens

Police followed a trail from Piccadilly Gardens to a suspect, following an incident where a member of the public was robbed and assaulted today.

Under Operation Vulcan, an investigation ensued, leading the authorities to an apartment in Mossley, where they arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of robbery, theft from person, and assault.

He remains in police custody for interview.

Additionally, a 26-year-old man was also apprehended on suspicion of possessing class A drugs and nitride oxide.

These recent arrests are part of Vulcan Piccadilly’s ongoing commitment to thoroughly investigate every robbery in Piccadilly Gardens, aiming to reduce crime and foster a safer community.

Detective sergeant Matt Donnelly said: “We’ve got a team of officers who are dedicated to investigating every incident of robbery or theft that happens in Piccadilly Gardens to drive down this type of crime and protect the public from opportunistic, volatile thieves.

“This, paired with regular covert and overt patrols means we are utilising a variety of tactics to tackle the crimes which matter the most to our communities.

“I hope this morning’s action shows that regardless of where you live in Greater Manchester or further afield, Operation Vulcan will take action.”
