Police search for tram passenger following brutal attack

Police have issued a picture of a woman they are searching for, following an attack on a tram.

Officers reported that an argument had broken out between two women who were on board a tram between Hollinwood and Rochdale Railway Station at 4.15pm on Monday (January 15).

The suspect, believed to be a white female in her 50s with an Irish accent, boarded and sat next to the victim – a 26-year-old woman.

The assaults began with aggressive elbowing and kicking.

Metrolink staff intervened, removing the victim to safety. However, moments later the suspect continued to assault the victim, lunging towards her, biting the victim’s hand and drawing blood, and hitting her repeatedly before leaving the tram at Rochdale.

Police were called to the scene and an investigation is underway to identify and locate the suspect of these assaults.

Officers are appealing to the public for any information and are looking to speak to the woman pictured, as officers believe she may have further information regarding this incident.

Information can be shared by calling 101 quoting log number 2329 of 15/01/24 or via www.gmp.police.uk
