Marc Skinner calls for Champions League rule changes as his Manchester United side miss out on qualification

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner says being drawn against Paris Saint-Germain at the Women’s Champions League qualifying stage is “something that needs to be addressed.”

After coming back to secure a draw in the first leg, Skinner’s side, despite playing some great football, were beaten 3-1 in the return last night to go out 4-2 on aggregate. Skinner had made his feelings about his side’s tough draw known prior and continued to express his feelings post-match.

He said: “It’s crazy that we have to play PSG in this qualifying round, crazy.

“It needs to be something that is addressed.”

Tensions were raised when United forward Leah Galton’s header 20 minutes from time was controversially ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper, a decision Skinner was not too pleased with.

Despite the loss, he was determined not to let this affect his side going forward and instead use it as motivation to come back and secure a different result next season.

He told MUTV: “We’ve scored a goal that should stand. It’s ridiculous. If that’s the level of officiating at this standard, it’s not good enough.

“That’s a goal, and we’re in the ascendancy then to get more. We’ve come into an intimidating situation, and we’ve been the better team.

“We will learn from it. We’ll come back stronger. We got a taste of it.

“That’s all credit to our players and shows everybody else in Europe what they’re going to get used to over the next few years

“We as a team are absolutely growing and going to where we want to be. We’re not going to let anybody stand in our way.

“I’m going to make sure we’re driven to make sure we are a constant fixture in the Champions League.”
