Women’s FIFA World Cup Final to be shown on big screens Manchester city centre

With interest in the Women’s FIFA World Cup now at fever pitch as the Lionesses prepare for the tournament Final against Spain on Sunday, football fans will be able to watch the match live on big screens in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens.

A fan-zone is being set up for the day with two big screens which will show the build-up to the match and live as-it-happens coverage of what is sure to be a thrilling match between the two sides.

Entrance into the fan-zone will be from 10 am on a first-come, first-served basis, with capacity capped at 6,000.

Fans will be able to choose whether to watch the big screen action from the strictly no-alcohol grassed area of Piccadilly Gardens, or from the adjoining raised platform area with its existing bars which will operate in accordance with their usual Sunday licensing restrictions.

Fans are encouraged to travel light, with no big bags, and to bring their own brunch and soft drinks. No glasses or bottles will be allowed, and bag searches will be in operation.

Councillor John Hacking, Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure, said: “As a city that loves its football it has been absolutely fantastic to watch the skill and determination shown by the Lionesses over these last few weeks in the World Cup. Getting to the Final is a massive achievement and we want them to know that the whole of Manchester is behind them.

“So if you’re looking for some big screen action to cheer the Lionesses on and an atmosphere to rival that in Australia, Piccadilly Gardens is the place to be. But whatever you do – and wherever you are, this is one match you don’t want to miss!”
