Andy Burnham elected as mayor of Greater Manchester

Andy Burnham (Labour and Co-operative party) has been re-elected as Mayor of Greater Manchester for his third successive term.

Mr Burnham’s impressive win saw him receive 420,749 votes – 63 per cent share of votes cast.

In second place with 68,946 votes – 351,803 votes behind Burnham – was the Conservatives’ Laura Evans.

Independent candidate Nick Buckley came in third place with 50,304 votes. In fourth was Reform UK’s Dan Barker with 49,532, and Hannah Spencer of the Green party, received 45,905. Liberal Democrats’ Jake Austin came last with 28,195 votes.

Upon accepting his win, Mr Burnham expressed gratitude to his competitors for a fair election and shared how much securing a third term meant to him.

He said that his policies prioritise the region over party interests and committed to continuing his transport reforms.

His goal is to integrate tram, train, bus, and bike systems by the end of the next term. Mr Burnham acknowledged the challenges of progressing Greater Manchester amid broader national setbacks.
