Frustrated Haaland finally smiles at Scream meme

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland may be facing a possible FA charge but he was at least seeing the funny side of his furious outburst at referee Simon Hooper yesterday.

Haaland got in Hooper’s face in stoppage time at the end of the 3-3 draw against Tottenham after the official whistled for a free-kick when Jack Grealish appeared to be through on goal.

Hooper initially played advantage as Haaland got back to his feet following a foul from Emerson Royal, only to give the free-kick when Grealish received a throughball from the striker.

An image of the Norway international screaming in frustration swiftly swept the internet and became the subject of numerous memes, one of which – depicting Haaland as the face on the famous Scream painting by his countryman Edvard Munch – caught the player’s eye.

It is unlikely the FA will see the funny side, though, with both City and Haaland potentially facing charges for their conduct.

The European champions will hope any sanction does not affect Haaland’s availability for Wednesday’s tricky trip to Aston Villa with Grealish and Rodri already suspended.
