Manchester Arndale market to be shut for a week following blaze

Manchester’s popular Arndale Centre Market will be shut for at least a week, following a blaze at a food stall.

The fire closed the market at the weekend and it will not reopen until the damage has been fully assessed and works have been carried out.

Deputy leader of Manchester City Council, Luthfur Rahman, said they were working to reopen as soon as possible, with traders kept informed.

The wider shopping centre reopened after shoppers were evacuated from the site on Friday, while firefighters tackled the small blaze.
